Maybe 6th gear for you, 2nd gear for a miata just getting to 70kmh with all 3 cylinders gushing every drop of 84hp

Oooof! :denied:

Any theories on how this happened? We always hear stories of people stuffing it on Turn 8. Hope the driver is okay.

What can I say but that it was a frustrating day at the Ridge? I couldn't get in the zone and string together a complete lap without stupid mistakes and eventually did a bad shift (going into 3rd instead of 5th) at the end of the straight. Thankfully the car is fine (I think knock on wood) and my pants are browner than before.

A lot of learning left to do and emphasizes how important seat time is - my last time at the Ridge was a year ago and I basically spent the morning re-learning the track.

The Nexen Sport R tires did great - they heated up well, had deep grip reserve that I definitely didn't touch the limit on, and looked like they wore well. Very quiet, I did not hear a peep out of them, and an instructor who drove my car commented that they were very consistent and gave a ton of grip at a sustained level over several laps without peaking like a RE71RS or CR-S would.

Here's the lap with my mistake at the very end:

I went to the Ridge for the second time this year, I managed to slightly edge the time over my SC3R time on CRS(I prefer the feel of these and not having to baby them for warm up as much) but didn't get my goal of 46s(Optimal got there tho)

Any of you geezers going to mission jul 1 and 2nd?

Come pull up a chair, grey c7

Traum 07-02-2025 09:05 AM

Saw a certain car at Mission yesterday.

Decided to use up the last bit of my xp12 front pads, 3-5mm at start of day.
Brakes felt "poor" as soon as i left my garage, not sure if the pads were uneven, or c7 calipers dont re align lower on thinner older pads.
Much less confident in braking zones yesterday.
1:19.2, 2 seconds slower than last year.
Pads were down to 1mm by the time i got home.

Slapped on new SR11 fronts today, brakes feel like they should, gonna go abuse the car again today.

Chopped a 1̶:̶1̶6̶.̶9̶ first session, satisfied

Scrap that, 1:16.5 last session

Do any of you guys run stainless steel brake lines?

I personally think they are a bunch of placebo effect that with a gun to your head, you couldn't feel the difference between stainless and stock lines (which are steel reinforced anyways) in a double blind test.

Thanks, guys.

Braking and pedal feel on the Boxster is pretty good as-is. I came across a vendor who made a direct-for set for my Boxster on clearance and thought, hmmm, worth getting? I suppose I may get a set as a back up since the brake lines I have now are likely original. Given my track record of old car problems, perhaps a good idea to have a spare set.

For what it’s worth, I’m still running the stock pads for DE.

Oops : Edit fail.

Yes on both my cars that I tracked. It was one of those well-I-was-kinda-in-there-so-might-as-well kind of deals when I was putting on new pads, new monoball arm, and doing a flush. It's also one of those things where you want to do it earlier rather than later cause the line may seize on and then it's impossible to do.

On my MS3 I was putting on new suspension and brakes so the whole front suspension and knuckle basically all came apart. Tried to do the brake lines too and one of the old rubber lines was seized on to the hard brake line coming from the ABS module. What we ended up doing was buying a new hard line going from the ABS to the wheel well, and then putting the stainless line on.

We were lucky it was the driver's side front that was seized on.

M3 too fat for stock pads. Porsche stock pads seem to be decent though as a coworker tracks his 991S with stock pads.

EDIT: I just pulled a dukes and edit failed

bcrdukes 07-06-2025 09:45 AM

:fuckyea:

OE part costs a lot more than the aftermarket pieces.

Traum 07-06-2025 09:50 AM

At least with Porsche's sports cars, I think their OE pads are really made by Textar. So you can get exactly the same pad while avoiding paying the Porsche premium.

Pelican Parts would probably show you both if you do a search on there.

EvoFire 07-06-2025 01:40 PM

I think my friend said his pads were Bosch

I'm like Bosch makes brake pads?

Correct. The OE pads are by Textar. I remember replacing them when I bought the car and they were Textar when opened up. Pelican Parts is good for cross referencing which is the OEM. The moment it is branded Porsche, you pay the P-car tax!

bcrdukes 07-07-2025 12:20 PM

Parts arrived with taxes and no duty. Saved $500 on this order from France. Highly recommend you P-car guys to consider Rose Passion from France as a source for your parts!

Question for you pros: Do any of you guys run a roll cage?

roastpuff 07-07-2025 01:58 PM

Roll cage and roll bar are two different things FYI.

I have considered a roll bar for the S2000 (and I actually have one sitting in the garage) but I am hesitant to put it in as it means cutting holes and cutting trim to fit around the bar which you can't really go back from.

EvoFire 07-07-2025 02:44 PM

Source a second set of trim pieces before starting, and cut the sourced pieces instead of your original.

Nearly impossible for S2000 due to age, and if available, REALLY stupid expensive. :okay:

The rear trim for S2Ks are going for four digits.

underscore 07-07-2025 08:53 PM

How much trim? Can you just run without it while the bar is in?
