Hey guys I need some help diagnosing a noise coming from my transmission ( 4 speed auto). It's making a whining sound only in 2nd and 3rd and the noise increases/gets higher pitched with speed. Thanks.

hud 91gt 10-07-2014 07:44 AM

Your going to dig into your auto transmission :suspicious:

The the only thing i'd ever get close to doing on one of them is checking the fluid level (If you can), replace filter/oil.

fliptuner 10-07-2014 08:06 AM

Possibly the diff whining?

Anyways, as hud91gt said, I'd only diy as far as changing fluid and filter (if it has one).

What car? If the noise goes away when you get into 4th or put it into neutral while coasting something is going wrong with those gears.

2000 Corolla. Ive just noticed it started making those noises in first as well. Noise goes away when it shifts into 4th. Ill try changing the fluid to see if that helps, I think the last time I changed it was 2 years ago.

EDIT: Shifted into neutral while driving and still makes that noise, but 4th/overdrive is still fine. My car sounds like a fucking trolleybus now :fuuuuu:
Also checked the fluid level and it looks pretty clean and is at the right level.

I'd start with changing the fluid, some fluids won't change colour on the way out.

Looking for some help on this. Just inspected my radiator today and I saw little tiny speckles less than 2mm in size attached to the pores of the radiator. There is no oil in the coolant so I know its not a chocolate milk shake mix, but I'm wondering would this be a good time to flush/change my coolant then?
Edit: my overfill reservoir also has black deposits in it

i-vtecyo 10-15-2014 05:50 AM

if u havent flushed it, its probably a good idea to do so because over time coolant can become acidic and rust the water pump causing premature failure and also the rad inside out.

It could be the wheel bearings making noise.

2007 Honda Accord

The DRL warning light (on my dashboard) lights up intermittently, with no DRL's obviously.
Sometimes the warning light will go off on it's own and the DRL's will turn on. Other times it'll stay on (with no DRLs) until I finish driving, and then next startup, it's fine.

Both bulbs are fine, high beams work great.

I'm assuming it's the relay/module, but where can I find it in the car, and is there an easy fix without having to replace?

2013 GLK350

Swapping snow tires on a friends suv later. Does the computer read the new TPMS sensors automatically or does it need to be reset somehow? Everything's OEM, including the winter wheels/sensors.

Thanks.

Edit - nm, found it.

If anyone else is interested:

Hey everyone,
I'm noticing that my clutch feels spongey/soft and it doesn't feel firm. I began to experience this at the beginning of the cold snap in the lower mainland. Is this normal or should I be looking to bleed the system? After a few presses here and there the clutch pedal gets stiffer

It should be a grey box with a single conector going to it under the drivers foot well. You can open the box once out and re solder a few connections and its fixed. Search for a diy and it will show you where it is and which one to resolder.

Check the back of the master (by the top of the clutch pedal) and see if it's seeping.

Bleeding the system wouldn't hurt though.

Hey guys, my car was making this whining noise last night and it's coming from the engine/front end of the car. The noise increases during acceleration and is present during idling and it seemed to be affecting my acceleration (seemed harder to get to a higher RPM) My car is automatic. I started up my car this afternoon and the noise seem to went away but I haven't taken it out for a drive yet since I'm a bit worried. Taking my car to the shop on Wednesday to get my front bearings replaced and hopefully they can diagnose this problem too.

Here are two sound clips I uploaded:

Any help is appreciated :) Thanks!

sounds like p/s pump. fluid may be empty or low

hud 91gt 11-16-2014 02:27 PM

I was going to say the same thing. P/S. As for the acceleration. I think it might be in your head.

Recommendations for a shop to diagnose a no start for a Mk4 VW TDI?

Preferably close to Langley but anywhere between Abby and Van is fine.

Thanks

Sort of applicable to this thread. Is there anyone here who works at a Honda dealer who would be able to look up a radio code for me?

TIA!

gilly 11-19-2014 01:41 PM

^ usually theres a sticker in the glove box or owners manual will have the code.

MindBomber 11-19-2014 01:48 PM

It was in the owners manual but someone broke into my car and stole it... they left everything else for some bizarre reason, which is nice...

Fafine 11-19-2014 01:59 PM

MindBomber 11-19-2014 02:01 PM

2002 Honda Civic Si

Wrong area, but where do I sign up for picknpull newsletter? I've got a list of parts to pickup from the wrecker, but don't want to pay for full price :p Some of the handier types here must know. I don't see it on the website.

Any luck? If not, I can try to find out tomorrow.
