That's an exceptionally fast CD-ROM drive for a computer sporting (what I suspect) is a 20Mz 386 processor. :)

Jmac 04-26-2015 08:15 PM

I remember doing bookkeeping on a (work-supplied) computer that was 33 MHz (with turbo) ... In 2005 ... And my boss kept bitching at me that it was taking forever

AzNightmare 04-26-2015 08:27 PM

:lawl: I think I had that exact same CD-Rom

GLOW 04-27-2015 09:45 AM

i remember my friend was 1 of the first people to get a CD Rom drive ever: single speed, it ejected a removable case that holds the CD and then you pop the case back in, thing cost like $1000-1200 back then

a year or 2 later there was 2x and 4x at half the cost.

I remember buying a CD-writer in the late 90s. It was $300 and had a SCSI interface. Blanks were $10, but I was able to recoup my money by selling burned CDs.

Now, DVD-writers can be had for less than $15.

Hondaracer 04-27-2015 11:13 AM

Yea I remember I bought a $400 "pine" CD burner right when no one had one, thought I'd sell all these CDs but mainly made them for myself or free for friends anyways lol

the Hon's restaurant in Richmond used to be a frequent family option for dinner, although their food dropped in quality in their last few years. $5 Curry beef w/ rice +$1 for bubble tea was a pretty sweet deal though

i remember when landsdowne mall still have lots of life in there, but that was way back

Klondike 04-30-2015 12:29 AM

Probably because they haven't renovated in 600 years. Strangely, it's still quite busy.

Lougheed mall is pretty depressing though :lol

The only thing Kingsgate Mall has going for it, is it's twitter account - now that's bad.

Happy anniversary to Expo 86!

It started on May 2nd and ended Oct. 13th

ExpoMuseum / Expo '86, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

I remember most of it especially Highway 86!

Quote:

From: Alisonsky

This participatory work, an integration of public art, landscape and public space built at Expo 86, was an award winning competition design for the entry processional and pavilion of transportation and communication. The four lane concrete highway rises out of the sea, undulates along the land and breaks off, ending in mid air between two major city highway viaducts and culminating with an automobile soaring to the sky. Its cantilevered undulations contain clear spans of up to 112 feet long and 39 feet high. The entire surface of the highway is covered with 200 air, land and sea vehicles, which include jogging shoes, skate boards, bicycles, motorcycles, boats, cars, trucks, planes, helicopter, submarine, space capsule and lunar rover, among others. Haunted and surreal when empty, the highway is transformed and animated by people.

Location: 1986 World Exposition, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
Materials: concrete, steel, 200 vehicles (air, land + sea), paint
Dimensions: highway: 60 ft. H x 712 ft. W x 40 ft. D vehicles: life size

And of course, the McBarge

That was 29 years ago. For us older types you can see how much of those areas have changed. Fuuuuuuck I miss old Vancouver :crybaby:

It's not even an official account. It's a parody account that a couple of women put together because they thought Kingsgate needed a Twitter account. They're pretty funny though.

Construx > Legos x 1000

The early sets were so damn cool, before they turned into basically pre-made follow-the-instructions toys (you could say the same thing about Legos too I guess

It wasn't early 90's though, more like mid to late 80's
