@red kryptonite - How is it over on the Island? Still need winters? Or okay to run R-compounds safely?

sonick 01-20-2025 11:51 AM

This is the exact temperature/weather winter tires are made for. They are called winter tires not snow tires for a reason.

red kryptonite 01-20-2025 12:38 PM

The mornings been kinda icy lately. My neighbour washed his car yesterday and the water froze over night.
This winters been mild, a lot of the mustangs and chargers I see in parking lots are still on summers.

Still on Indy500.

I'll be signing autographs outside the ICBC claims center tomorrow at noon.

Looks like the CrossClimate 2 has real competition now:

I finally got the chance to try my new Goodyear Assurance Weatherready 2s in the snow! People often ask me what tires I fit on my personal vehicles and for this winter in Utah, I've decided to try the new Goodyear Assurance weatherready 2 instead of my usual CrossClimate 2s.

So far I'm extremely impressed with the new Goodyear. The snow grip seemed excellent in the limited running I did, and the dry and wet has also been very good. I'm particularly impressed by the comfort of the tire, even though it is quite a heavy tire which I think is affecting rolling resistance slightly. My friends at @tirerack also rate the tire highly.

I will be doing a full all weather category tire test soon so keep an eye on YouTube.
Got that eyebrow look too.

bcrdukes 01-23-2025 03:58 PM

Badhobz just fainted.

Badhobz 01-23-2025 04:24 PM

GOODYEAR!?!??! man fuck that noise. Either you go Michelin or you go ching chong ding dong tires. You either eat steak, or you eat mcdoubles. What is this half assed bullshit.

trollface 01-23-2025 06:46 PM

Is tire tech just a slow burn scam at this point? All the thread patterns look the same, rubber compound is very well understood at this point.

You're telling me we sent robots to Mars and a Tesla to space, and get stuff dropped off in my backyard by an Amazon drone, but we just found out a V pattern is pretty good?

How can they get better and better each year some how. At this pace, in 50 years tires will be so grippy it spins the earth faster and we lose 2 days a year due to the new CrossClimate 40's.

Common now.

Badhobz 01-23-2025 06:59 PM

I’m not listening to the logic of a face troll. That’s stupid.
Spoiler!

trollface 01-23-2025 07:03 PM

I’m not wrong and you know it.

Big tire is blowing air up your ass. Same folks that make tires for space shuttles and f1 just found out about the triangle shape.

yray 01-24-2025 07:57 AM

maybe the cost to make the eyebrow mold is finally cheap enough for our cheap asses to accept

Hondaracer 01-24-2025 08:00 AM

I had good year assurance on my car prior to my new set, they were actually excellent tires in all conditions. Would have bought them again if the Costco deals hadn’t swayed me

AstulzerRZD 01-24-2025 08:25 AM

Most all weather tires absolutely blow in the wet.

https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests...y.jsp?ttid=336

A couple new entries now as good in wet as CrossClimate 2
- Toyo Celsius Sport
- GY WeatherReady 2
- Vredestein Quatrac Pro+
- Cinturato WeatherActive

Badhobz 01-24-2025 01:15 PM

Aye cross climate 2s are old now. I’ll wait for cross climate 3s

Canadian Tire is clearing out their X-Ice Snow tires for those in the market.

https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/m...-0052089p.html

Too bad there's no stock for the size I'm looking for - I'm looking at a new set of all-seasons + winters at the end of the year (CC2s aren't available).

EvoFire 01-24-2025 01:58 PM

Bummer, sold out in my size

A sign of X-Ice Snow 2 to come? :D

radeonboy 01-24-2025 04:39 PM

I think CT begins their steep winter tire discounts around this time - I lucked out twice with them around this time in the past.

dark0821 01-25-2025 07:49 AM

NoooOoooOooo welp, oh wait... they have it for my prius LOL hmmmmmm

trollface 01-25-2025 06:51 PM

X Ice Snows for 235/45/18 at $229.59 seems like a decent price

Thoughts on it in terms of pricing?

I've previously had X Ice Snows on my previous BMW X1 and absolutely blasted through the previous snow dumps in Metro Vancouver

EDIT:

I currently have Momo Tires NORTH POLE W-2 on my Model 3, and it's the definition of hot garbage. Had it on for 3 winter seasons. The compound is on the harder side, and gets stuck on my street when there's a snow dump
