Car and Driver teamed up with Tire Rack to test North American all weather tires. Pirelli wins this round. The Goodyear they tested was the older version and the newer one would likely have come 1st or 2nd. The big news is that there are lots of great options now in all weather tires - you don't have to get the eyebrow tires.

I literally just bought a set of the WeatherReady 2's to replace my Speed 3's old Xice's just the other day. Fountain Tire had them on sale, $1300 all in, plus a $120 rebate. Not bad. They're one of the few models that actually has them in my Speed 3's OEM size (215/45/18). For whatever reason, it's a pretty uncommon size. The Pirellis and Crossclimates are something like $400-500 more expensive. Not worth it for me and my use case.

Yesterday it was 26C but now it's 3C.

Wtf GTA, do I switch back to the summers or not?!

headhunt3r 04-30-2025 05:54 AM

Time for you to become AcuraGTA

bcrdukes 04-30-2025 06:03 AM

I swapped out to all seasons last week. I'm not switching back to winters. Screw you, Toronto weather!

whitev70r 04-30-2025 06:07 AM

No wonder people who live in ON and AB are in such pissy moods ... :lol

RabidRat 04-30-2025 06:41 AM

Not only was it 26C yesterday, there was a sudden-onset hail storm with thunder and lightning and everything. Then like an hour later it was friggin hot and sunny again.

I don't have the luxury of all-seasons like onrdukes so I really will have to be Acura416 :crybaby:

bcrdukes 04-30-2025 07:13 AM

Which car is in question?

I thought about getting just summers next time around instead of all-seasons, but to deal with this pissy ass weather in the GTA, umm...yeah. :inoutugh:

RabidRat 04-30-2025 08:13 AM

Yeah I didn't think of the weather swings, that was my mistake. Oh this is the i3 with the RWD and 155/70/19 tires lol. Definitely CC3 at the next opportunity.

Man, that Hobz quote... :heckno:

April and October/November are the months where the weather will swing in extreme directions. I'm often cautious on swapping over until I see a level of consistency in weather patterns.

This year was the exception. I needed to do an oil change and the weather was good last week. Pulled an Acura604 and Badhobz by swapping out the wheels and did a driveway oil change. :fuckyea:

You should buy an old BMW with the ambient temp. sensor ripped out. You'll love all the BONG chimes.

I have to hear it all the time after not installing tpms in my new wheels. I thought I was going to be able to code it out.

important timing.

Great68 04-30-2025 08:36 PM

Just brought them home from the shop today. Interesting that even though they're technically the same size as my old Xice's, they're about 1/4" wider per tire. I had to slide my storage rack out about an inch to get them to fit.
Now they sit and wait for the next 6-7 months lol.

supafamous 05-05-2025 06:29 AM

Finally got the winters off yesterday and found a screw in one of the tires. Haven't tried pulling it out yet as it's not leaking AND it's also pretty close to shoulder so it might not be repairable. Any opinions on whether it's fixable (if it did go through)?

Was hoping to run them for 2 more seasons before I swap to CrossClimates but if it's not fixable I'd have to replace the whole set (or just get the CC2s early).

bcrdukes 05-05-2025 06:36 AM

Looks repairable.

Interesting that it's a Robertson screw.

SSM_DC5 05-05-2025 06:44 AM

2 weeks later, CC3 released.

Double the eyebrows. Triple the grip. Revolutionary sodium-filled ablative nitrile barbs for >1 G lateral grip in ice, mud, and tarmac: a historic industry first.

supafamous: :okay:

^bahahahaha, youre the best Mr Rat!

EvoFire 05-05-2025 09:01 AM

Since you don't need to drive on it anymore, just pull it out. I've had two "punctures" on the AD09 with the M3, and neither of them actually went through.

Update: Pulled it and it was about a half inch screw and looks like it didn't penetrate deep enough and the tire is still holding air. A half inch Robertson screw is definitely a rarity.

Traum 05-12-2025 10:08 AM

Hmm... the keywords that I picked up are:

- pulled out
- 1/2"
- didn't penetrate

What were you doing again, Supafamous? :ifyouknow:

supafamous 05-19-2025 05:53 PM

Oh fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck. Hobz is gonna come gallons when he sees this.

CrossClimate3 AND CrossClimate3 SPORT

The tire was previewed at the annual shareholders meeting on May 16 so I'm guessing it'll be out by late summer - probably Europe first.
