Trying out the rebranded Yokohama W. Drive this winter. They're known as the BluEarth V905 now, and apparently they're good for the kind of winters Vancouver get.

I picked up a set of Michelin X-Ice 3s on Enkei wheels for my new Civic in June. Will have them put on in the next 2-3 weeks probably.

Lol bro are you me?

I also got X ice 3 X-Greens on Enkei wheels :lol

A deal came up on Craigslist that was too good to pass up really for “used” winters. Guy had the Xice3’s used for 1 season (tires look like they came out of the store they still so new) on the premium 18” G37 Enkei rims off the coupe.

Got the package for $1000, brand new the tires alone would cost me about $900 from Canadian tire :fuckyea:

QFT for when you post about regretting it or finding out wheels are reps.

Anyone have suggestions for SUV winter tires in the Tri-Cities?

I mentioned WRG3/4s in the RDX winter tire thread, but anyone have experience with them and say, X-ice3 or Blizzak DMV2s?

twitchyzero 10-17-2020 10:06 PM

from my limited research all-weathers seems perform superior to a/s for a winter maybe two but long term they're too similar to a/s

is a/t a viable year-round alternative if prices are comparable? i haven't noticed a hit in fuel economy, but slightly higher road noise

320icar 10-18-2020 01:18 PM

Placed my order for new tires. I swap wheels and sizes extremely often so I don’t bother dropping big $$ anymore. Ended up ordering the Westlake sw606, which should be more than good enough for the RS. I didn’t much care for the pilot alpin I had previously (great on road but crap on snow/ice). On the SVT last year we had Hankook ipike which were amazing, and these look like copies of that. So here’s hoping

I had some W.Drive's a couple years back and they were a downgrade from the Pirelli Sottozero's I had before that. Here's hoping the new ones perform better.

I had the iPike on my CSX a couple winters ago and they were great through the slush and snow, but I didn't really like them for the cool and rainy days.

This year I'm going to stick with the Michelin AS/3's that came on my Fiesta. I drive it so little and for such short distances that I'm not really concerned about not having a proper snow tire, and if it really does snow a lot, the wife has AWD & Blizzaks.

EvoFire 10-18-2020 02:31 PM

Was thinking of winters for the babymobile, but we drive so little now the 7000km all seasons will probably suffice. I have Xice3 on the M3 from last year.

Kind of lame to have snows on the RWD sporty car and nothing on the SUV.

It’s also more fun to drive RWD in the snow. [emoji2958] Just don’t let someone with summers or all seasons get stuck and stop on a big hill. Haha

IMO, nothing more fun than AWD with grippy AF winter tires. Powering through unplowed snow like a rally car while others are slipping and sliding in their bald-tired cars wondering what they're doing wrong.

Is this going to be your winter specific set or will it be your year round set? If the former then something like the X-Ice and Blizzak would be suit you especially if you want to be able to conquer anything the Tri-Cities throws you. The Nokian Hakkapelltta R3 would also fall into that class of "Eats all Snow" winter tire.

The Michelin Pilot Alpin 5 SUV seems to be the choice for performance winters but I couldn't find it in stock anywhere last winter and settled for the Continental TS850P which I really love in dry/wet winter conditions but it's only alright for snow.

Ordered a set of Continental VikingContact 7. Highly regarded.

It was shipped from QC, so only 5% GST! :fuckyea:

Should get them installed some time this week. Will report back.

What is the over–under on the number of times Acura604 swaps tires this season?

Acura604 10-18-2020 07:54 PM

2021 RDX A-SPEC will get these on within next few days.

Do you need to test fit them?

Where did you order from? I'm considering sending back the V905's after I did even more digging and they were bang average at every category. Perks of working at a dealership.

twitchyzero 10-18-2020 09:48 PM

assuming free shipping, wouldnt the savings from not paying PST be offset from 30 day returns, hazards pro-rated warranty etc?
