^ Wacha order? I ordered a set of General Grabber Arctic LT (studded) and was told they'd be a month or more... Costco shows 0 tire options in the size on their site for some reason. (275/70/18). |
1 Attachment(s) I caved yesterday and threw the snows on in consideration of the snow in the forecast (lol - not even the tiniest hint of any here in Coquitlam this morning). I do like how the car drives though on the snows, it's more comfortable over the 18s and faster since these wheels are way lighter than the stock ones. -Mark |

tires finally came in yesterday, dropped off the wheels and picked them up today. roll smooth, they were balanced well! it was unfortunate that the shipping company lost the original tires, but 1010tires was fast to email me, let me choose a substitute and knocked $20 off each tire so they did a good job keeping the customer happy (no i didnt go full karen lol). ended up with the sailun ice blazer. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...c2363676_b.jpgUntitled by 320iCar, on Flickr |
Those look exactly like General Alti Max |
They sure do. Most Chinese places just buy the old moulding/machining from the bigger brands, sometimes make minor adjustments and keep pumping out tires. Hell, even large brands like falken have subsidiaries like Ohtsu that sell the old falken tires |
Finally caved in and put on my snow tires. It was sketchy driving in the rain last night with summers and saw two separate crashes on the highway |
Which makes me wonder, how much is this "new and improved" tire is actually improved and how much is marketing BS? How much more advancement in thread pattern/rubber compound still out there that hasn't been discovered? I read so many posts about ppl saying XXX snow tire is so much better than XXX snow tire. Like really? They just copy each other's thread designs. Guys driving a 4000lb SUV can tell the X ice 4 is better than the X Ice 3? I paid like $400 bucks for a full set of Alti Max's, how much better is a 1,200 set of Xices? According to Redflagdeals, I should be dead. |
I absolutely agree. From working in a tire shop for a long time, I can say it’s 90% compound and not tread design. |
For the same model of tire, the difference would be pretty negligible. Crap snow tires vs good snow tires makes a big difference though. I'll never go back to cheap ones. |
I’ll have to dig up the tests I was reading about the 3 tiers of winter tires. Obviously the top tier (Michelin/Bridgestone/nokian etc) scores the best. But the difference between second tier (the rest) and third tier (import/Chinese tires) was almost nothing. So they said if you’re getting good snow tires, get top tier. Otherwise save the $$ |

Genuinely curious |
How much difference between Tier 1 and Tier 2? Because the $ difference between XIce and General Alti is about 800$ lol. |
Well so much for the 2-4cm they called for... a foot and counting... https://i.imgur.com/Z2q3Hqp.jpg https://i.imgur.com/jAs3VkX.jpg |

A $800 difference would make it $400 for me to get Altimax, at that price hell yeah I would have gotten Altimax and done burnouts with it lol |
Picked up a set of X-ice 3's size 225/40/18's for $868 taxes in @ Canadian Tire today. Bought the last set of 2018's production...was a solid deal. |

What's a decent deal for a "2nd tier' winter tire for a '19 Civic EX sedan? |

That said, a set of $400 Altimax's is a raging deal. That's a good solid tire and for that kind of money it's a no brainer. |
