I am rocking 5 year old WS70s on our Mazda3 ... they are not bald but are definitely getting down in tread, I will be retiring the after this season. Even in that condition, no issue whatsoever driving around in the snow - I continue to be a big fan of Blizzaks and will throw some WS80s on to replace them.

Fiance's Nokian WR G3s were fine earlier this week, but since it's started turning to deep slush/ice, they've really struggled.

Not sure if my Blizzak's with barely-legal tread would be better at this point.

Vancouver weather forecast is for 17 degrees on (edit: Next Monday) Monday. How quickly things change. Time for those winters to come off.

I'm swapping next week. Chances of snow are slim to none as we move towards April. Average temperature in Vancouver is 10 degrees at this time of year. Going to be 15 degrees next week!

Seeing that it's Oct 1 and winter tire laws are in effect,

I'm contemplating a dedicated winter tire set up or all weathers (WRG4) on the E46. It's rwd and no LSD. I got around decently on old WRG3s about two winters ago, but it wasn't great. Had Chinese M+S last year and that was an absolute nightmare. I already have a dedicated summer performance tire set up, it would be great to get both all weather and winters so I don't kill the treadwear on either summers or winters, but space is scarce.

Also trying to figure out which all weather is the best for a 2015 Civic. Being fwd, I got around with just Primacy MXM4s last year - even in Surrey. My 16 y/o brother has the Civic now, so I want him to be safe so it has to be snowflake rated, but not necessarily dedicated winters. I don't want to run two sets of wheels for the Civic too.

I was running a set of WRG3 on my G37x; they had around 6/32nds remaining, and I was sliding around as soon as it rained (13-18 degrees Celsius). For reference, taking the Canada Way onramp to westbound highway 1, I can't take that curve any faster than approximately 45 km/hr: if I add throttle any faster than that, my rear end starts to become finicky (note I have a rwd biased AWD system; your RWD would possibly kick the rear out at this point).

Having said that, I recently swapped over to a set of near-new WS80 and couldn't be happier. Let's wait for the colder temperatures/slush/snow and see how they hold up, though I'm quite confident having read some comments here!

I would say for any spirited driver, all-weather tires will not cut it after the first or second season (depending on how much you drive).

For the E46 since you have summers, why not go winters? For space issues, you can probably do the tire storage at Kal or Fountain where they keep the tire for you and swap it seasonally? Kal's Tire Lodge

For the Civic, I hear the Michelin CrossClimate (Costco pricing is good, and $110 Costco cash card at the moment) is a pretty good all-weather, as well as the Toyo Celsius. As always, the WRG's are there as a benchmark.

Can't go wrong with DWS 06 if you don't want to swap every year. Did me just fine through the dumps of 2016. I was driving up and down the hills of New West without issues.

That said, I have a heavy car with low profile tires. I'm trying out the Michelin Pro Pilot A/S+ this year because the Continentals have soft sidewalls. I've blown two of the DWS 06 on potholes at highway speeds.

I just had DWS06's installed on my stock wheels this morning.

If anyone is looking for a set of Toyo Celsius 235/45/18, mounted on winter rims, let me know!

People want so much for used winters I'm going to put my wifes 70% Hankooks on my car and buy her new winters since she doesn't like how stiff they are. Since I'm doing that I may as well swap her to 15's for that extra sidewall cushiness (I'd prefer to have the extra sidewall for my car but I can't justify buying brand new tires to beat on when she hates hers lol).

Stock is 205/55R16, 195/65R15 is the same diameter and seems to be the most common size that I can swap down to? 205/60R15 or 215/60R15 seem non-existant. I'm leaning towards the Michelin X-Ice 3 since she liked the 2 on her Prelude. Does anyone know if the 3 is stiffer or behaves drastically differently?

Xice 3 are fine. No real different than 2 other than longer tread life and improved traction

Sorry, to clarify, the space thing was that ideally, if I did have space I would run summers, winters, and all seasons. But I don't, so I gotta choose between dedicated winters and wear on treadlife or all-weathers that I could get stuck in.
