Here's another one.

A PSA for anyone looking to replace all season tires or all weathers but still want a sportier feel.

Costco EAST has started carrying Michelin CrossClimate+ which has been available in Europe for a few years now. It's designed for Europe's windy roads while retaining snowflake rating and 90k km treadwear warranty.

https://www.michelin.ca/CA/en/tires/...mate-plus.html

A comparison winner in TireRack and a lot of Euro tire shootouts, Consumer Reports seems to like these more than the WRG4.

320icar, are these available at Costco West yet?

Yeah they sure are. We’ve sold lots of sets but in pretty basic 205/55/16 or 195/65/15 kind of sizes, nothing that would be worried about losing performance feel. I’ve not had any firsthand adverse weather driving on them yet so I can’t comment on their quality just yet.

Michelin CrossClimate+ or the Michelin A/S3+?

What car do you drive and how much do you value aggressive/performance driving during spring/summer/fall?

W205 C300 with staggered setup due to sport trim. I don’t track but I do enjoy taking tight turns.

Crossclimate is more like an "all weather" tire and A/S3+ is like one of the best performance "all season" tire.

Cause (street) summer tires are generally better than all-seasons in the other 3 seasons, given you're not running aggressive track tires that will hydroplane in the rain.

Vancouver climate tends to be very wet and 5-10 degrees for the late fall to early spring months.
Wet traction is important, but the city's hills are also challenging whenever there's snow and ice.

Summer tires are great in wet braking, but not when the temperatures start dropping.
Winter tires usually aren't that great in wet braking.
All seasons aren't that great in snow and ice especially on our hills.

I see all weathers as a good compromise between winters and all seasons. Retains acceptable rain traction and improves snow/ice to acceptable levels.
They're something I'd run in Vancouver, but I'd definitely use the summer/winters strategy in Ontario.

Ah good to know, these will be my next set of tires then.

Haven't driven on them myself, but TireRack seems to think that for an all season/all weather, they were "very capable" at the track

You're going to have way more fun during spring/summer/fall on the AS3+ which are very capable tires. I haven't driven the CrossClimates but I assume they're on the Grand Touring side of things not the Ultra High Performance level of the AS3+'s

Anyone planning to swap off the winters yet? Been too warm these few weeks ...

Definitely not. Its January, and its been like a high of 6-7 degrees. That said, my PSS are doing just fine when I pull the m3 out, but I wouldn't drive it anywhere north, or east of the GVRD.

Considering in Richmond all my windows were frozen and the car indicated -4°. No I’m not going to be swapping them anytime soon

Expresso 01-29-2019 08:32 AM

lol, it's like you haven't been outside or something.

NOAA is forecasting below normal temperatures and above normal precipitation for the Pacific Northwest later next week.

I would LOVE some snow please. It has not been a proper winter.

I doubt we'll have any snow this year... Just your typical Vancouver winter.
We just had 2 years of anomaly, but don't forget what it was like the previous 8 years before that, lol

Zedbra 01-30-2019 04:46 AM

Possible snow later in the week on Sunday

https://www.vancouverisawesome.com/2...-snow-january/

Hehe 01-30-2019 08:26 AM

I run on winters but quite frankly, I don't miss snow one bit. It's simply a small cost I pay for peace of mind and to simplify my snowboarding runs up the mountain.

Every time we get snow, driving anywhere is like having full of c-lais on road, only difference is that I'm no longer in Richmond. :fuckthatshit:

Many people have no fucking idea how to deal with snow. So even if my car is running smooth and firm on the ground, I can't prevent other jackasses running on summers to bump into my car because they lack even the most basic principle of keeping a safe distance.

yray 01-30-2019 08:30 AM

-10c guys, we did it

Liquid_o2 01-30-2019 12:30 PM

Wow, going to get really cold! Always happens at end of January / start of February. Not sure why I even put my winters on in November... should just wait till mid-December :P

I drove up to Whistler on Sunday for a conference. Was so sunny and dry. Great drive, but I could have done it on summers (yes I know it is mandated that you have winters though).
