It's moreso with NCAA players that are projected to be fringe NHLers. Majority of them won't end up playing hockey as a career and need to play out their eligibility to earn their degrees and get 'regular' jobs. There is a bigger risk in drafting European players because they can make more money playing pro back home instead of grinding it out in the minors for peanuts.

Top level NCAA talent have been pretty successful in the NHL: Cammalleri, Kariya, Toews, Kessel, Cory Schneider are some names that come to mind. Some pretty good up and comers like Johnny Hockey and Jack Eichel too.

I was listening to the morning losers on Team 1040 and they played a clip of Todd McLellan ripping into the team after yesterday's loss.
Talking about NCAA players walking away from teams that drafted them, they were ripping into Justin Schultz pretty bad too.

Nabatron 02-24-2016 08:28 AM

there should be some rule in place where a team ie the fucking shit oilers cant have a chance at the first over all for 4 or 5 year periods...

Nabatron 02-24-2016 08:31 AM

Im happy schultz is shit and his career turned out the way it did...fucker had a chance to come play for the canucks but chose the oilers because he thought he had a better chance with all the young guys there and that he could grow with the team...sadly that hasnt happend haha...inb4 benning trades for him at the deadline fuck!

6o4__boi 02-24-2016 08:41 AM

Jordan Subban for Justin Schultz

:lawl:

SumAznGuy 02-24-2016 08:53 AM

I just watched the highlights from last nights game. Ouch, there were some pretty brutal plays by Shultz.
I still remember how people in Vancouver were pissed when Brunnstrom signed with Dallas and then got a hat trick in his first game.

I guess it makes sense and JB is going all in with Drouin. Whether or not he pans out, we won't know till we try. That's the worst part.

Nabatron 02-24-2016 09:11 AM

Drouin to me looks like the real deal! highly skilled and offense for days...the few problems i see is with him he could be a really high maintenace player ie early tyler seguin years but drouin is young so shit can change...other red flag is he could have the hogdson effect in where alot of people around him are telling him whats best for his career...ie dad saying shit, agent saying what to do so on so on...

Can someone show these odds to Canucks management?

Linden was on Team1040 yesterday and stated they're looking to acquire players to slot in for this years and next years playoff run :lawl:

these guys are delusional to think the Canucks can win a playoff series or even MAKE the playoffs :fuckthatshit:

6o4__boi 02-24-2016 09:40 AM

fuck it
let them say what they want and do what they want

if they wanna alienate the fanbase further it's their loss
someone needs to give em a good roasting at the STH summit this summer

Look at Dallas last year and then this year.
They had Seguin and Benn and were pretty close.
Picked up a few pieces and are near the top of the league.

I bet Canuck management/Ownership feel the same way as long as we have the twins hence why they think they can make the playoffs this year and next.

Think of it this way, we are oh so close with a not so performing Vrbata, Higgies for half the season and Burrows.
Replace those 3 with decent guys getting 50% more production and Hansen having another 20-25 goal season and the Twins hitting 0.8-0.9 pts per game.
BoHo getting his +/- to a more reasonable level while hitting 50 pts next season.
A full season with a healthy Sutter
Keep Hamhuis, a healthy Edler on D.

I bet the Canucks truely believe they can hit close to 100 pts again next season.

Nabatron 02-24-2016 09:52 AM

^thats if they add lots of pieces in the off season!

I for one wouldnt mind canucks going after a guy like ladd he is a gritty foward and he can score, hit and fight. I still remember when ladd was on the hawks and kesler and him dropped the gloves. Need a guy like that on your team who can beat up kesler haha

If we cant get stamkos I'm putting my money towards ladd, lucic or ericson maybe be able to get two guys instead of one...thoughts?

murd0c 02-24-2016 09:54 AM

helps Ladd is local as well so it depends if he wants to play for his home team.

It's sad when our odds of picking 1st is relatively equal to our odds of making the playoffs. haha

Just one more thing I'd like to add:

"Linden: We knew the reaction we would get would be that (Shinkaruk trade). But the day we start basing decisions on reaction.."

Linden: We were fully aware of the backlash...got it all summer long. We're going to continue to make decisions that we think are right ones"

---

continue to make decisions they think are the right ones.......

pastarocket 02-24-2016 10:02 AM

They think that they are making decisions which are right????

Are Linden and Dim Jim smoking weed when they make trades??

Management/fans who expect this to happen have some pretty unreasonable expectations, IMO.

Management is delusional! The chances of the team making the playoffs this season are the same odds as me winning the Lotto Max. :lawl:
