People are saying the Sennheisers that were on sale on Amazon may not be authentic.

With the sale facilitated by Amazon, I believe it is highly unlikely that they are not authentic, and if they were proven not to be, I am completely confident Amazon would step up and replace.

I don't think you have anything to worry about.

I received my HD598SE from Amazon today. Failed the authenticity check as well.

The check is confusing. There are 3 parts above the QR code.
The plain text code in the hologram, and last digit in the hologram that you can see when you tilt it.
And the ID code.

Which one do you enter when it asks: "Please enter the label ID which can be found above the QR-Code."

Also, I tried to find the mobile site to take a pic of the QR code but I can't find it.

But the box and barcode definitely looks authentic. Also, I think Sennheiser was pumping these HD598SE for Amazon to sell for Black Friday, and the codes are so new that they did not register them all yet for authenticity checks.

Amazon is absolutely useless when it comes to dealing with shady companies selling through them, I've had multiple issues with a variety of different stores and not once have they done anything to try and help me or correct the problems on their side. They don't seem to care at all about who is selling through them so I've stopped buying anything via Amazon.

its the non-holographic id number above the qr code, also you can just use your cell phone to scan the qr code and it'll send you to the same page with the proper id number already entered

yep that's what i read too, the SE's are brand new made for Amazon for Black Friday

people are thinking the same, that they're just too new that the codes aren't fully in the system yet or something

I opened them up, it passed the physical check.
Just from looking at them, these look like the real deal. You will just notice the sennheiser quality in the small details. It feels comfortable and sounds great :)

Got my HD598SEs today and loving them so far as well. First set of over the ear headphones for me. Saw the price and it was hard to pass that one up.

This is exactly my point. Amazon is both a marketplace where random sellers can sell, and also a place where they sometimes provide the product (facilitated by Amazon).

The former is high risk and you are right, they won't really get involved. However, the headphones are actually shipped by Amazon from their own warehouse - totally different and yes they will take care of it if something is not right.

Ya pretty sure best buy is moving to station square. Went to bed bath and beyond the other day and saw a best buy sign on one of the windows. Then went to best buy after and they barely had any items on display.

They are way too big they are not going to handle it case by case. What they do is rating the seller by metrics. Enough shitty customer experience, late shipping, cancellations and they shut the seller down, regardless how big. Bad score also affect the seller's buy box and their SEO so there are incentives for sellers to provide adequate services.

They are very data driven. Do they care about you solely, probably not. But big picture? Absolutely.

Got my Sennheiser's today they match the physical description above of the legit ones. Beautiful sound profile even though they're not broken in, hear so many things I never even heard before in songs I regularly listen to! Sound leakage to people around you is horrid as noted in the reviews though :p
