Canucks sign Baertschi to two-year extension - Vancouver Canucks - News

Quote:

Vancouver, B.C. – Vancouver Canucks General Manager Jim Benning announced today that the club has signed forward Sven Baertschi to a two-year contract extension. The contract will carry a value of $1,700,000 in the first year and a value of $2,000,000 in the second year for an annual average value of $1,850,000.

Baertschi, 23, appeared in 69 games for the Canucks last season where he set career-highs in a number of categories including goals (15), assists (13), points (28), power play goals (2), power play points (7), game-winning goals (1) and shots (107). The 5-11, 189-pound forward has appeared in 138 regular season NHL games split between Vancouver and Calgary, collecting 58 points (25-33-58) and 40 penalty minutes.

A native of Bern, Switzerland, Baertschi was originally selected by Calgary in the first round, 13th overall, at the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. He was acquired by Vancouver from the Calgary Flames in exchange for Vancouver’s second round pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft on March 2, 2015.
I think this is decent value for him, lets just hope he works his ass off over summer and last year was just a start of his potential

not a bad deal
Jimbo learning how to sign good contracts

highfive 06-16-2016 02:12 PM

It's worth it as long as Baertschi is consistent on his play. When he's on his game, him and horvat were dynamite.

dbaz 06-16-2016 02:23 PM

thought he'd get 2mil a year. so it's good there's a little bit of savings

also goligoskis rights traded from Dallas to Arizona for a 2016 5th

roastpuff 06-16-2016 02:28 PM

I approve of this signing. He did good with Bo Horvat, let's keep the line together and see what happens.

Ch28 06-16-2016 02:35 PM

I think it's an excellent deal. Gives the kid a solid 2 years to continue to improve, and if he regresses or sucks then you're not hampered with a horrible cap hit

Jmac 06-16-2016 02:40 PM

Bo better get an extension on July 1st.

yeah you're drunk

Dan murphy tweeted that Benning doesn't seem himself trading the 5th unless he gets an offer he cannot refuse. We're most likely going to get Dubois or Tkachuk with it.

TjAlmeida 06-16-2016 06:48 PM

Was kind of hoping for a prospect and to drop in the top 10 and go for Logan brown. We have 2-3 years to let him mature and size up in utica.

Mike Oxbig 06-16-2016 07:13 PM

TB wouldve trade JD for for Bo str8 up couple months ago according to hfboards but canucks said no

Burrows Dubois JD - west coast french connection

murd0c 06-16-2016 07:16 PM

Burrows won't be with the team next year, I think they are going to buy him out.

I don't know about this.

This one just doesn't make sense.

Why trade a team leader that actually wants to play in Vancouver. His work ethic and heart is unquestionable and can mentor those yougins coming up the pipe.

tonyzoomzoom 06-16-2016 08:07 PM

Unless we go all out on UFA's, I don't think we would be bumping up against the salary cap. In which case, there may not be a need to buy out #14

oh hi bieksa lol

i think to this management everything makes sense, if it means getting younger and faster

Ikkaku 06-16-2016 10:44 PM

We need someone here to mentor Jan-Pavel Laplante if he makes it to the big league hahaha

The problem is that the buyout window closes before free agent frenzy begins.

6o4__boi 06-17-2016 07:38 AM

i rmbr an article a while back saying the cap hit saving of buying out Burrows is only something like $1 mil and that it made more sense to buy out Chris Higgins instead

I wouldn't mind another year of Burr if that's the case tbh

Between Higgins and Burr, Higgins is barely useful in the AHL

SumAznGuy 06-17-2016 07:54 AM

I hate to say it, but financially, it doesn't make that much of a difference to buy out either players.
IIRC, Higgies has 1 year left on his contract and Burrs has 2 years.
If the Nucks bought out Burr's contract, they only save $1M and would have a smaller cap hit stretched out over 4 years.
So unless they plan on going nuts on July 1, it's hard to say there is value to buying out either contracts.

604_boi, the thing you are talking about was posted by Ian MacIntyre on twitter back in April.

Do we get any compensatory picks from Calgary for signing Gululu as Flame's head coach?

No, they got rid of that after the Torts signing

We should be giving them picks for taking Gululu Kappa

EvoFire 06-17-2016 09:59 AM

I don't know why they didn't get rid of Gulutzan with Torts. I thought it was normal for the whole coaching corps to be fired along with the head coach.

Correct me if I am wrong, but Gulu was in charge of running special teams right? And our special teams has been... well, uninspiring. While he didn't look out of place when Torts was sidelined for the few games, he didn't seem to have made much of a difference either.

Now I look forward to who they bring in as a new assistant coach. And hopefully a better special teams system to go with it.
