Torts reply to Kessel's tweet.

TORONTO — John Tortorella is fine taking his medicine from the press and the fans. That’s part of his job.

But Team USA’s head coach takes exception to some of the harsh criticism and sly comments made by former Team USA players in the wake of the nation’s swift elimination from the 2016 World Cup of Hockey.

“I just don’t understand players that have been in this situation, players that have played for USA Hockey, not only Phil [Kessel] but some of the other guys speaking out,” Tortorella said Thursday in advance of his club’s final game against the Czech Republic.

“To me, it’s a little self-serving, and quite honestly, it doesn’t make USA Hockey look any better either. It’s self-serving, and I think the people that are doing it, it really doesn’t help them either.”

Kessel, who won a silver medal with Team USA in 2010 and led the country in goals at the 2014 Winter Games, was not selected to the current squad.

"I wish Phil just…. Listen, you guys [reporters] have been grinding us about Phil. Phil looks just fine as far as the way you’ve talked about us not picking him. I just wish he didn’t say anything, because it makes him look bad. I don’t want him to look bad,"
said Tortorella, noting that he likes Kessel.

Bobby Ryan also made a passive-aggressive remark on Twitter about his absence, and former U.S. stars Brett Hull, Mike Modano and Jeremy Roenick each took a turn at expressing their disappointment in the team's results.

"And the other guys? It’s so easy. It’s so easy to start chucking dirt on us when things are going bad. But when they’ve been playing in the program, for the whole USA Hockey, it just does not look good,"
Tortorella said. "And we have some work to do to get some respect back. That stuff doesn’t help."

What torts doesn't understand is that his style of coaching doesn't work anymore. To coach/ manage a bunch of young and rich atheletes, just pure emotional yelling or expression doesn't work anymore. Young players understand the game a lot better now. What they go through juniors and training is a lot different than what it was 10 years ago.

As much as torts built a tough team, what the fuck was big buff doing when duchene scored that goal? He let a small duchene beat him to the puck.

I'm willing to bet that clb is going to have another bad year and let's hope we get our 2nd rounder soon. Lol

murd0c 09-22-2016 09:30 AM

say what you want but that tweet is pretty epic

AzNightmare 09-22-2016 11:18 AM

I don't know why the players would take that tweet personally. From what I perceived, it was directly a shot at management who selected the players for the team.

I don't think Kessel was implying the current roster wasn't trying.

bobbinka 09-22-2016 12:03 PM

it implies that he would've been a better choice than any of the selected players

murd0c 09-22-2016 12:05 PM

and he would of been lol

highfive 09-22-2016 12:14 PM

Imagine if there was no Team NA? Team USA would be a lot better imo.

Matthews, Larkin, Eichel, Gaudreau, Saad

6o4__boi 09-22-2016 12:15 PM

well GG Finland
they've been pretty shitty this whole tourney and i guess it was too much to expect em to beat the Russians

sigh, the Canada v Team NA chances not looking good

Except Lombardi wouldn't have selected em and if he did, Torts would probably scratch em/give em 4th line ice times.

AzNightmare 09-22-2016 12:16 PM

Fuck. Finland just sucks so much.

It's over. Fucking NA.... They had their chances within the game to beat Russia and Sweden and blew their leads.

Dream match up won't happen now.

So disappointed.

Imagine if USA took Tyler Johnson, Phil Kessel, and Justin Faulk instead of Abdelkader, Backes, and J. Johnson

Nabatron 09-22-2016 04:37 PM

no clue why they took backs that guy is a fucking dud lol....as for Dubinsky feel bad for him since torts is his club coach and he got scratched for the big Canada game lol....goodluck to him actually playing for torts now...

They were also going to take Callahan, too, which is like ... what the fuck? The guy had 28 fucking points in 73 games last year (and even worse production in the playoffs). Fortunately for the Americans, he had to have hip surgery, so he was unavailable.

They replaced him with Palmieri, who wouldn't have been my first choice, but at least they took someone in his prime who scored 30 goals last year.

canucks camp roster updated.

the invites that made it from youngstars to main camp are Marco Roy, Alexis D'Aoust, Danny Moynihan, Curtis Valk, Rylan Parenteau.

highfive 09-23-2016 09:39 AM

Is it me or Curtis Valk always end up getting invited to camp but no contract? lol

6o4__boi 09-23-2016 09:46 AM

i didn't even know Tyler Johnson was American lol
i thought he was Canadian

dbaz 09-23-2016 03:24 PM

from the lines they are running at camp you could be looking at the following for reg season lines

Daniel -Henrik - Eriksson
Baertschi - Horvat - Hansen
Burrows - Sutter - Rodin
Etem - Granlund - Dorsett

68style 09-23-2016 05:12 PM

Burn on Virtanen if that's the case

Virtanen was playing with Cassels and Zalewski

dbaz 09-23-2016 05:19 PM

basically the 2nd line for the ahl team. its not a burn on virtanen, not like he should of been in the nhl last year anyways

Swap Hansen with Rodin and that's what I expect the lineup to look like

he's from spokane washington which is close enough to Canada lol...he is close to my hometown Trail B.C. which is right on the boarder of the states. Back in the day both my bros played him in minor hockey and well you can tell from his size didn't really grow but good on him making the NHL
