i get the sense that not much will happen today in terms of trades
lots of tire kicking but ultimately, the prices are too high

honestly not much to look forward to...July 1 will be a more intriguing day

punkwax 06-24-2016 07:50 AM

Not much to look forward to? :suspicious:

Canucks have the 5th pick and the whole Dubois/Tkachuck/Juolevi debate is there.. I'm looking forward to seeing how today unfolds, myself.

The NHL is looking at a complain of tampering after what #canucks Jim Benning said yesterday regarding Steven Stamkos and PK Subban.
Dim Jim strikes again!

we'll pretty much know who the canucks will pick when the fourth is chosen.
If Tkachuk, then Dubois, if Dubois, then Tkachuk.
Juolevi is lumped in that 6-10/12 depending who u ask and isn't worth the 5th imo, when you've got Tkachuk/Dubois still available

after the canucks pick, then the draft becomes pretty boring seeing as we've got just the 64th and a 5th(?) in the 2nd+ rounds. Benning has been on record many times now saying how hard it is to get another 2nd round pick and how he thinks there's a steep drop off after the first round so it doesn't look like any more picks will be had.

So realistically, we're just adding a 5th overall pick to the pool today. That may or may not be competing for the roster in 2017/18. Exciting, yeah, but nothing to write home to mum.

What JB will or won't do on July 1st will pretty much determine how this upcoming season will play out.

lol watch him lose that conditional 2nd round pick from CBJ for tampering

murd0c 06-24-2016 08:11 AM

big talk about the Flames trading the 6th they have as well.

Jmac 06-24-2016 08:52 AM

The past 2 times that teams were found guilty of tampering:
Toronto in 2009: fined an undisclosed amount
St. Louis in 1994: fined $1.5M, ordered to surrender a 1st round pick in one of the next 5 drafts, New Jersey could also trade 1st round draft positions once within that 5-year period.

Dim Jim

6o4__boi 06-24-2016 09:03 AM

The Blues case was pretty serious iirc...plus you don't fuck with Lou and expect to get away with it with just a slap on the wrist lol

probably gonna be an undisclosed fine

Seriously, how the fuck did this guy become GM. He's hockey's Ralph Wiggum.

Dim Jim

What he did is exactly the same as what the Leafs did when they talked about the Sedins before free agency, should be a monetary fine if anything.

Tim Budong 06-24-2016 10:17 AM

DIM JIM!!!!!!!

Bouncing Bettys 06-24-2016 10:30 AM

I didn't agree with the tampering penalty levied against the Leafs back then and I don't agree with this one now. If we're being fair, then the Canucks should be punished.

6o4__boi 06-24-2016 11:03 AM

lol all this chatter about top 5 trading today kinda reminds me of the NBA draft yesterday...so much talk and rumours of big packages being put together but in the end nothing happened.

interesting to see what would happen outside of the top 5 teams picking...Buffalo looks like they'll try to make something happen

jeedee 06-24-2016 11:17 AM

lmao its pretty much known EVERY team will make offers to Stamkos and Subban

only Dim Jim would be the one to be fined for tampering by blabbing about it to the media :lol

tonyzoomzoom 06-24-2016 11:31 AM

If the Nucks get dinged for anything more than a fine for JB's blabbering mouth, then he should resign or be fired. How dim can Jim be...

dbaz 06-24-2016 11:33 AM

vanek informed hes being bought out

Jmac 06-24-2016 12:24 PM

Minnesota is lucky it was only a 3-year contract. Makes me shit bricks thinking about a 7-year Lucic contract.

highfive 06-24-2016 01:17 PM

Calgary and CBJ talking a lot.

I jus read Jimbo's wiki page...what if Benning is just exacting revenge because of how he was treated as a Canuck...

Quote:

The Canucks, according to coach Bob McCammon, however, found greater success without Benning in their lineup, though it was "no reflection on him." Benning believed he was playing well, resulting in confusion between the two sides. Following a streak of nine consecutive games scratched from the Canucks' lineup, the team requested that Benning be demoted to their International Hockey League affiliate Milwaukee Admirals, although he declined. After a brief period of uncertainty with the Canucks in which he was told not to attend practice, Benning was asked to rejoin the team after an injury to Harold Snepsts vacated a roster position. He experienced a three-point game in his return, but was scratched again for the remainder of the season afterward due to the organization's belief that he was too small.

After the conclusion of the 1989–90 NHL season, Benning signed a termination contract with the Vancouver Canucks. Early in the subsequent preseason, Benning was sidelined with a bruised knee.

Ch28 06-24-2016 02:30 PM

Jason Botchford on Twitter: "general consensus around the draft is that the Canucks will be fined for those "tampering" comments. league has talked to team already"

murd0c 06-24-2016 02:31 PM

as long as we don't lose a draft pick(which we shouldn't) IDGAF
