People online are saying CBP might find it suspicious if you have no social media accounts on your phone.

I guess I'd look super suspicious since I have none of that shit lol.

I have very little desire to travel to the US anyways. In the past 20 years I've made all of one trip to the USA that was not work related/sponsored.

unit 04-09-2025 09:39 AM

when you fly you can do a precheck first, and if they want your phone or something unreasonable, you can just decide not to fly that day. if you try to cross the land border you are fucked since you are on their turf already, you can't just turn around and go home.

Trump announces 90-day pause on ‘reciprocal’ tariffs with exception of China, raises china tariffs to 125%. Market popping quickly!

CivicBlues 04-09-2025 09:51 AM

fucking eh what a joke. This really is a clown show of an administration. Can't wait for that 27-year old resting-bitch-face bimbo to come up on stage and rationalize/justify today what her boss is doing was the "plan all along!!".

Hondaracer 04-09-2025 09:53 AM

Should be pumping our HELOCS into the market.

whitev70r 04-09-2025 09:53 AM

Imagine the kind of money you can make if you had inside info!

I don't think that Cheeto wins a drawn out trade war in the long term against China.

The Chinese government has many ways to hurt the U.S. economy.

This CNN article is a good read about what China can do under their President Xi to retaliate against Cheeto's tariffs:

https://www.cnn.com/2025/04/09/polit...war/index.html

Americans are about to feel real economic pain
Pain is coming for American consumers.

China has been the top foreign supplier of goods to the US, accounting for up to 16% of total imports in recent years, according to the USTR. It dominates the market in smartphones, computers and toys — likely to be hit by massive price hikes that take them out of reach of many Americans when the new tariffs come into force. Taken together with Biden administration tariffs on China, which expanded on Trump first-term duties, China now faces an effective average tariff rate of 125%.

Beijing can also inflict other penalties on the United States, such as halting export licenses for rare earth minerals that are vital to the US tech industry — one reason why Trump may have been so obsessed in finding alternative sources of supply in places like Ukraine and Greenland.

After seeing the severe inflationary impact in the US of supply chain crunches during the pandemic, Chinese leaders could choose to impose new artificial curbs on the flow of goods to the US. American law and commercial firms might be restricted from operating in China. And Beijing could jolt the US agricultural heartland by limiting the import of soy beans and Sorghum. Each of these steps would hurt Chinese as well as Americans — but they’d demonstrate Xi’s power of retaliation.

Small businesses are also vulnerable. While giants like Apple can seek alternative manufacturing bases — in India, say — US firms that rely on goods and components from China will be left hugely exposed.

“If you are a small business, particularly on the import side or the input side, there’s going to be pain,” said Alex Jacquez, a former special assistant for Economic Development and Industrial Strategy to President Joe Biden. Broader economic consequences will follow. “You’re looking at a drag on GDP that is going to be a drag on the labor market. You are looking at inflationary pressure,” Jacquez said.

Hmmm, I wonder how fast the Chinese government can revoke work visas for any Americans working in China now.
:considered:

Payday for US government officials

JDMDreams 04-09-2025 10:18 AM

People are cheering China on YouTube videos about them assigning retaliatory tariffs and standing up against us bullying. Even the American commentators are embarrassed about this.

EvoFire 04-09-2025 10:19 AM

The world is such an interconnected place now that no one country can win a trade war against another, and definitely not US against China when US relies so heavily for Chinese lower cost manufacturing for hard goods.

We can just take a look at Russia, it took a coalition of multiple world powers to damage the Russian economy, and yet they are still standing.

Again it goes back to Trump looking at macroeconomics through a microeconomic lens, and I don't even buy that his microecnomics ability is even that strong given his string of bankruptcies over the years.

It's still down to, 1) he's actually that stupid, 2) there's an underlying motive, which increasingly looks like market manipulation and insider trading.

Even the dumbest of the dumb can see that this is hurting the markets now. And no tariffs will not bring manufacturing back to USA. Not when the equipment capital needed isn't made here either and those are subject to tariffs as well. It would make more sense if there was no tariffs on equipment capital.

JDMDreams 04-09-2025 10:27 AM

I'm surprised they just continue to let him sign these executive orders, when they are so outlandish. I think USA is fucked for the next 4 years as long as he's in power. No one will respect them and their reputation is done.

mikemhg 04-09-2025 10:31 AM

So now the markets are going up as a result of the 90-day tariff pause announcement.

Please tell me how this isn't insider trading and market manipulation.

JDMDreams 04-09-2025 10:36 AM

It's because everyone thinks he's a retard now cuz he dug himself in such a deep hole that he can't get back out of. What, you're gonna announce infinite tariffs next and cancel it within 10 hours and postpone it for the next 4 years?

Everyone is calling him BS and USA retard

!LittleDragon 04-09-2025 10:39 AM

I'm starting to think Monday's "fake" tweet was a test to see what happens... and today he put out pretty much the same message on Truth Social.

100 percent. Cheeto is creating market dips with his 90 days tariff pauses so that he and his buddies can make more money from buying stocks on the dip.

RevYouUp 04-09-2025 11:32 AM

More like they bought puts before the tariff announcement and calls right before the pause announcement. They secured the bag both ways

SkinnyPupp 04-09-2025 11:41 AM

Remember when the Supreme Court made presidents immune from criminal charges?

EvoFire 04-09-2025 11:42 AM

I would have no doubt that once he's out of his term, all bets are off.

Biggest case of insider trading in the history of the world. Oh, he's immune? Right.

blkgsr 04-09-2025 12:20 PM

do you guys think this past week was the big final dump then pump or you think it'll happen again. I/we all knew it was coming but didn't get funds into the position to take advantage of it

68style 04-09-2025 12:46 PM

This timeline is so ridiculous.

Honestly did shit all, who knows how long he'll be on this tariff stupor or he'll move on to some other shiny object. I mean a month ago they were still talking about annexing Canada and Greenland, now nothing on that for a while. A month from now we'll probably be talking about nuking the moon or something else ridiculous that'll crash the market then.

He has 3.5 yrs more to do this over and over again ad nauseum.

CivicBlues 04-09-2025 01:26 PM

Just a reminder folks, Trump has been in office for *checks watch*

79 days

Yes I know it feels like 79 years now but he's not even past his first 100 days in office when most of his craziest shit it thrown at the wall to see what sticks.

bcrdukes 04-09-2025 02:22 PM

Annexing Canada and Greenland was likely his diversion while he orchestrated the world's biggest pump and dump. His strategy is going as planned.
