I don't think it's too naive to hope that US can be redeemed, it's just that the damage is so deep already and will continue to get much deeper that even if a saviour or hero shows up (Mecha-Obama or Bizarro Trump) that it won't be enough to get them back on track. It's going to take decades to repair the damage and all that time spent repairing the damage is time for China (and India) to take the crown.

~35% of the US is irredeemably stupid - ignorant and uneducated. They only know how to perform harm to themselves and others. These people consume more resources than they produce yet think of themselves as the ones who are being taken advantage of - they ARE the burden.

I am honestly at a loss of word at the debacle that the US has become. And you are absolutely correct that with each passing minute where the Trump administration is inflicting more harm on the US and its citizens, it is absolutely making China's job to take over as the World #1 easier.

India won't overtake the US, at least not anytime soon.

That country has way too much ingrained corruption and lacks a stable middle class to encourage that type of sustained growth IMHO. India also lacks innovation, whereas the US is still a bastion for that, notably in tech.

China on the other hand is an inevitability, if not already.

If you need a few custom circuit boards made. No place in North America can do it. With companies in China you upload your design and they arrive in like a week for a few bucks each. Some place will also CNC metal parts for you and 3D print in a bunch of materials including metal.

Want to buy a laser engraver/cutter? You can get a 100 watt laser for around 5k from China. A western company will be like 20K plus.

The makerspace I am a part of is looking at getting a fiber laser to cut metal with. Western company 100K. One from China 20K and it will also laser weld and clean. Aslo has a 130 watt co2 laser built in to cut wood and plastic with.

IMO, China's achilles heel lies in its rapidly aging and declining population. In particular, its younger generation is also feeling very much disenfranchised and disillusioned. Whether the negative impacts of these societal changes are happening fast enough to prevent China from overtaking the US remains to be seen. But suffice to say, they are serious structural problems that have no easy solutions to solve. As a matter of fact, there may not be any viable solutions at all since China is such a populous country.

Yup, way too much corruption. Politicians in India care more about lining their pockets than actually governing, which is why much of the country still feels stuck in 1947. The nation is also bogged down by religion and caste divisions, making it harder to move forward.

Despite the negatives, there is one silver lining which is India does have an emerging middle class, which will help grow the economy.

India is moving into the sinosphere of influence. That’s like the dumbest fucking thing the US could have done. You don’t want India and China being good friends. That’s like probably 70-80% of global manufacturing centered in two countries and both have populations to support huge consumerism.

Bring in manufacturing, in this case it's a big buck car plant. This is the kind of jobs he WANTS Americans to have, and one of the few places where they have a hope to be competitive.

Now the signal this sends out is another story. Bring your manufacturing, but we won't make it easy for you. Goes back to the whole tariffs things, we want you to setup factories here but also tax you extra for the equipment you need to bring in. Shit's not thought out at all.
