I don't know enough specifics of what their problems are or what the solutions might be, but we should always have some form of a public postal delivery. If they can be profitable that's obviously ideal, but some costs to keep it operating should be acceptable as it is a service and the geography of our country places unique demands on that service. Like westopher mentioned the amount of "brokerage" fees that I would've had to pay private companies for shipping across borders far outweighs anything Canada Post would ever affect my taxes. And it's in all of our best interest to support people who choose to live rurally, otherwise they'll have to move to larger cities even more quickly than they already are which will just increase real estate prices faster. |

If you want to avoid the brokerage fees, you can go to a CBSA office and clear the item yourself. UPS and Fedex always give you that option before the item crosses. |
SO internally on radio there were some 3rd party company who hired a italian company to try to sort mail.. spent millions and just didn't work well. CP also spent money on an arm to help move mail / boxes into CP vans... went thru IMPL and then was told it 'didn't' work well and trashed the idea. I can't confirm but the radio host did get insider into... not sure how much of it is true but i'm nto surprised. I can't see it as 'wasting' money as I'm sure RFQ and tenders were to try to IMPL then entire time. Please just have CP end daily delivery and change over to mail boxes. |
didn't we get every other day delivery back then with harper? |
Union would be the end of CP. They never offer any concession or a solution to actually help CP to cut costs, but to milk it to death. At this point, the only reasonable idea I have to make CP viable is for the gov't to give CP a banking license and make CP the default bank for all public sector wages. It has been done in other countries and a lot of lucrative products and services can be offered to basically subsidize the logistic portion of CP. Without this, CP is done. |
Just LOL @ the clowns who voted Liberal. I am embarrassed for you. Hahahaha |

On Monday, the Trump administration announced a 10% duty on Canadian softwood timber and lumber that is effective on October 14. The effective duty rate is now 45%. What was the Liberal government's response to this? Nothing. |

Something has to be done. They will have to cut postal walk to make happen. From Wiki i can see how they are fighting for a lot of stuff. At the time of the strike, CUPW represented approximately 55,000 striking workers.[6] Its list of demands included: wage increases of 24% over four years, which it says will keep wages up to inflation; enhancements to group benefits, such as coverage for fertility treatments and gender-affirming care; improved protections against technological change; enhancements to paid medical leave; paid meal and rest periods; and increased short-term disability benefits.[7][8] Canada Post declined these demands, instead offering wage increases of 11.5% over four years as well as increased paid leave.[8] The Crown corporation has described its finances as "unsustainable," reporting over $3 billion in losses since 2018 and debts exceeding $1 billion. In 2023, Canada Post spent $4.9 billion on labour costs against $6.9 billion in revenue, with operating costs per hour for parcel delivery ranging from $50 to $60 versus industry benchmarks of $40 to $50.[9] Unlike many Crown corporations, Canada Post is not taxpayer-funded and must sustain itself entirely on its own revenues. I want to see what they are willing to give / budge in return to meet in middle. |
a yearly average of 6% wage increases? with what money? lol My job is tax payer funded and they barely give us 2-3% wage increase spread over 2-3 year agreements. Even if they are net neutral, changes need to happen with their business model. Which means cut backs no matter how you slice it. |
can someone explain canadians that are not aussie or from the UK saying cheers? when did become a thing? |
