Learned that the hospital system and healthcare in general is incredibly fragile and having a pandemic that is slightly worse than seasonal flu can shut down the world is fairly alarming

Hopefully lessons are learned to build in capacity for the future

Here’s a good example.

Hondaracer 03-13-2021 11:37 AM

When hospitalizations effect 0.00X% of the population and it can shut down the world? Ehhhhh..kinda fucked that our systems can’t handle the uptick.

So in BC we have 5 million people. Covid hospitalizations since the beggining of the pandemic are around 4400. That constitutes 0.0008 of the population

So an additional 0.0008% of the population of unexpected hospitalizations (over the course of a year) overwhelms the system?...

westopher 03-13-2021 11:42 AM

We’ve literally gone 100 years since something like this happened. I don’t disagree that hospital capacity should be increased in certain instances, but it’s fucking daft to say this is slightly worse than the seasonal flu.
Also probably worth mentioning the system was never at capacity.

Apparently so

i've learned that people's definition of hardship varies dramatically.

What you call inconsistencies, I call Canada.

The reality is the nature of the case counts were very different from P.E.I. to Quebec to Saskatchewan to B.C to the territories, and provinces had different approaches because they had different situations on the ground.
limp leadership too common in canada..never wants to take blame

sure it's a massive country, but procurement is still 100% the Feds job

how hard is owning up to the misstep and being transparent with procurements? tell us how much we paid for each dose, what consequences the companies have if they dont meet the deadlines

This also scared me, but if anything I've realized during the vaccination push right now (especially in the US) is that it's a very loud and vocal minority but their numbers are smaller than they make themselves seem.

I knew about anti-vaxxers before the pandemic, but at least they are scared about their kids get autism..

Anti-maskers on the other hand....OMG. There is literally no excuse if don't have a medical condition

JDMDreams 03-13-2021 07:14 PM

No it should be that you SHOULD WEAR extra masks if you have a health issue and not use it as an excuse not wear. It just means you're weak and gonna die faster or stay the fuck home. But then population control:accepted::lawl:

I hope that you're aware this is absolutely false information as well. Literally zero proof.

westopher 03-13-2021 10:19 PM

Imagine thinking Jenny McCarthy is a viable source of medical advice over you know, literally anyfuckingthing else.
Also, good news, my 83 year old grandparents, including my grandpa who just did 28 sessions of radiation for melanoma just got vaccinated a week and half ago. No illnesses, no side effects other than I quote, “ I can tell someone stuck a needle in my arm the day after, but that was the worst of it.”
Can’t wait to see them after all this shit.

Not only zero proof, but even if it was somehow true it still makes no sense to anyone who can count. You're far more likely to die of the diseases (if unvaccinated) than be autistic. And that's before even getting into the whole concept of a spectrum.

Congrats to your grandparents!! Grandpa dispelling more than 1 myth too... so many people out there claim cancer treatments don’t work too, just drink some alkaline water right? Fucktards

Btw anyone ever actually read up on Jenny McCarthy’s activism? She’s a dark dark person man... her son isn’t even actually autistic and she keeps saying he is to promote her views. She also claims she’s like the mother of dragons... a chosen one or “indigo mom” as they like to put it. She’s basically mentally ill, how she’s allowed to be on talk shows and judge singing competitions is beyond me.

Oh I know, I'm just saying that's still a 100 times better excuse than "it infringes on my freedom!!! "

GLOW 03-14-2021 02:52 PM

i think when jenny was asked to cite her sources and credibility etc, she backtracked a bit didn't she?

that 1st speaker, 'same reason i don't wear underwear, things gotta BREATH' LUL

Everyone over 30 will be eligible for vaccination here starting tomorrow. Also all foreign domestic helpers, and all >16 students who will travel overseas to study

Do I rush into it or wait? Gym and travel is fucked anyway...

:considered:

We do actually, Pfizer/Biontech or Sinovac. And Astrazeneca next month.

I decided I'll try to book an appointment tomorrow, we'll see how it goes. With 5 million people suddenly eligible, it might be a gong show LUL

GLOW 03-15-2021 11:42 AM

get it now vs when astrazeneca may be an option you can't say no to?

quick, blame telus again for the poor rollout

Quote:

The B.C. RCMP and police in Vancouver, West Vancouver and New Westminster confirm they’ve had to ask frontline police to cancel appointments they aren’t eligible for, even though they identified themselves to call-takers as law enforcement and were accepted to book a shot. Correctional officers are currently eligible for vaccinations, while police and other law enforcement officers are not.

The blame on Telus was ridiculous.

Telus was contracted for something like 100k calls a day from the government, they received 1.7 million calls in 4 hours and weren't staffed correctly for the volume.
