No change in behaviour. I’ve got plans in Whistler next weekend

Are they down? I only kept an eye on the icu #s and they seem to go down only when people die

And there's this headline
Quote:

COVID-19: Hospitalizations jump as COVID variants hit younger people in B.C.

Younger people making up increasing proportions of hospitalizations and deaths in B.C. as older people get vaccinated

I went to IKEA the other day, and it's packed like it was a boxing day sale or something, and most people aren't buying anything, they're just walking through :heckno:

coronavirus discussion

The concern for me is the higher cases of variants in BC. 140 out of the 908 new cases reported today are the variants:

There are also 140 new confirmed COVID-19 cases that are variants of concern, for a total of 1,912. The most common variant continues to be B.1.1.7, first identified in the United Kingdom, with 1,666 cases. There have been 47 confirmed cases of B.1.351 variant, first discovered in South Africa, and 199 cases of the P.1 variant, first discovered in Brazil.

Although hospitalizations of patients is down, the daily number of variants cases keeps going up in BC.

So an anecdotal story from this past week

I went into a building for work, some older run down low rise 4 stories near Kingsway. There were signs for wearing masks everywhere, every door, every elevator etc. Saying everyone must wear a mask at all times inside

While i was there for roughly an hour, only 1 person of the 10 or so I saw had a mask. Mostly dirtball borderline homeless, dreadlock type. However, all of them seemed oblivious to the fact that they were not wearing one.

I then went to a home where the guys attitude was “hah hey I know this covid thing but you don’t have to wear a mask in here if you don’t want”

I THEN went to Safeway for lunch, and multiple people followed me in not wearing a mask.. and had to be reminded to put it on by security..

Uhg

RiceIntegraRS 03-26-2021 07:09 PM

Ive been taking my son to the playgrounds around GVA and its surprising how many people arent wearing masks. But theres a huge difference between Vancouver and Surrey. I would say 60% of the adults in Van are wearing masks and 25% of the kids are wearing them. While in Surrey id say 10% of the adults are wearing masks and maybe 5% of the kids are wearing them. Its no surprise Surreys covid #s are among the highest

Hondaracer 03-26-2021 07:16 PM

It’s outside..

RiceIntegraRS 03-26-2021 07:22 PM

I didnt realise it was impossible to catch covid outside.........

Hondaracer 03-26-2021 07:57 PM

It’s not but it accounts for virtually none of the cases..

I’m sorry, but if you’re wearing a mask out in a playground, you’ve won the covid cuck award. If you’re that scared don’t go out.

Wearing a mask is one layer of protection not just for you, but for the others around you too. If there are other families at the playground wearing masks and you’re not, wouldn’t you feel bad? I know I would.

Clearly your way of thinking is different from mine.

Hondaracer 03-26-2021 09:04 PM

Well I’d say they aren’t so I wouldn’t.

I went to 3 different parks yesterday of various sizes and I’d say no one was wearing a mask. I flew a kite at the one parks and there was a woman and her dog sitting about 30 feet away, another woman came along and sat close by to her. Should I be wearing a mask? The wind off the sea was very nice and the air flow was perfect

Then walked through the dog park where strangers were chatting amongst themselves socially distanced, no masks, didn’t seem out of place

Like, if you think the ventilation and risk of exposure is anything outdoors not wearing a mask compared to indoors in a place like Costco or ikea? Lol like I’ll take my chances outdoors with no mask over many of these places with one. The “outside” has pretty good airflow

6200 active cases make up 0.00124 of the population of BC. If I’m tripping about parks then best stay home

I’m probably coming off like a dick but that’s just my opinion regarding masks in outside spaces like that. If I’m walking along comercial drive during the day maybe I’d be more inclined to think about one

The best part about being an 'essential service' are all the poor retail workers stuck having to work inside a mall. I stopped by Metrotown last weekend to pick something up and it was busy as fuck in there. It was ridiculous

what if they were also there to pick something up

is there anything not opened besides the casino/theaters?

68style 03-26-2021 09:34 PM

I've been pretty observant of all the measures taken during the whole pandemic... but when I'm out of the store or walking outside, unless it's a busy sidewalk like Robson or something... the mask is off. I can't justify it.

That said I do take steps not to walk in other people's slipstreams and I still try to keep 6 feet distance.

Theres a big difference between parks and playgrounds. Playgrounds will have 10-50 kids on them at a time, and you can add another 10-100 parents watching them all in a close proximity depending on what playground you goto. Why wouldnt at the very least wear a mask to protect myself. It also keeps me face warm. It also protects my kid and keeps his face warm too. If your outside at a park or a not so busy area, i dont see anything wrong without wearing a mask. But i was talking about a playground where kids are legitly climbing all over each other at times. But what do I know? I only have a wife and friends who work at the hospital that tells me all the stupid stories of how people catch covid in the first place.

Teriyaki 03-26-2021 09:52 PM

^ Speaking of slipstreams, just walking in the city has become more tiresome it seems because of Covid distancing. Having to match people's speed ahead, and always being hyper aware of your immediate surroundings. It's like defensive driving, but on 2 legs.

Don't you get it? Those people are owning the cucks by getting covid

westopher 03-27-2021 01:19 PM

Anti mask rally on Cambie with signs like “blame the Chinese” etc.
I’m sure most of them are unemployed, but if they aren’t, hopefully they will be soon.

68style 03-27-2021 02:33 PM

I feel better and better about my decision to not have kids in this world every day

JDMDreams 03-27-2021 06:09 PM

I think we're gonna be over 1000 after Easter, went to Costco today and it was packed, lots of people dining in restaurants as if nothing is happening

Hondaracer 03-27-2021 08:33 PM

Dined at 2 different restaurants today, just hoping one of those 0.002 people weren’t within spitting distance of me.

As Ontario opens up it will be the example because it was already doing pretty bad Prior to the lockdown and now basically forced to reopen as case numbers climb again. Govts. Are just banking on vaccines and hospitalizations to go down to continue to get back to normal

As I was sitting at biercraft on comercial the anti-vax, testing is DNA stealing, plandemic, convoy drove by consisting of about 10 vehicles. As I looked around the restaurant where things looked pretty normal in terms of capacity, people coming and going, the minor inconveniences of having to wear a mask for the courtesy of each other, I thought, how fucking dumb do you have to be to want to drive around a vehicle plastered with poster board signs about a lockdown or the simple courtesy of wearing a mask proactively given how little life has changed in the grand scheme

That’s the crazy part of people coming out

SkinnyPupp 03-27-2021 08:56 PM

It's so strange how pretty much normal people turned into fanatics with this... It's like if something bad happens, like a pandemic, the weak minded just lose the ability to be rational. I've had to drop people I normally would respect, because they turn into crackpots. Even highly educated people who should otherwise know better :fulloffuck:

MarkyMark 03-27-2021 09:36 PM

Well it's not really THAT surprising. How many highly successful people out there accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior? Crackpots gonna crackpot.

How many successful intelligent (key point here, not all financially "successful" people are intelligent) atheists became successful religious zealots? I think probably not many actually. Most of them would have been raised that way.

The point is there are plenty of intelligent people who believe some bullshit you wouldn't think they would actually fall for. Some people can be incredibly smart yet when it comes to common sense they get tripped up by even the most blatant bullshit ever. It doesn't have to be a religious thing. Look at Steve Jobs, he decided a juice diet was better than surgery and it ended his life. Being smart and gullible often go hand in hand.

I'm 99.9% sure you have one blindspot yourself that you're describing here as well. Might not have surfaced yet but wait till some crisis or life threatening situation.
