if you are a true frugal shopper then you know costco prices are crap. costco is for the rich playing frugal.

last week the dyson v9 submarine was on sale so i returned my year old v8 and got the v9. it was a "free upgrade"!!!

Wow! :joy:

Costco now sells 10lbs of Kirkland rolled oats for $9 - half the price of the name brand stuff. Where else can I save that kind of money?

Not all things are cheaper at Costco but there are enough things that are cheaper AND where the quality is higher (I find their fruit and veg to be much better than the garbage from Superstore) that it makes total sense to get it from Costco. Where else can you get good golf clubs for cheap? I just picked up a 9lb box of spaghetti for $9 - I could get that from Dollarama but the quality would be nowhere as good.

And they rarely stock products that are low quality so I'm willing to try stuff that I wouldn't if I was shopping at Walmart. Couple that with the generous return policy and I'm even more willing to try stuff (though I hate lining up for returns).

The car is totally fine the rest of the day. It's just that first morning start. It seems like battery to me.

Also -- back in August (I think) the battery went completely flat when I parked but continued a phone call through carplay with the engine off, for like 20 mins. Had to get a jump start. So already I know it's not great to begin with.

It's 5 years old car, 75k kms, so battery seems like it's time for a change.

If you don't run a dashcam in parking mode, batteries can last much longer than 5 years. If you don't want to spend the $300, I'd suggest a charge using CTEK or something, then run a test on it before buying a new one. Some times it just needs a proper top up with a charger for some more life. I'm in Bby, if you want to borrow my ctek for a night you're welcome to. I also have a tester to check CCA.

Totally agree with this. The quality of their items, especially produce is WAY better than any grocery store. They just get it fresher, riper and turn it over quicker.

And yeah, if you only shop sale prices you can get things cheaper than costco.

So for example a 3 pack of long english cukes is $5-6 at costco? And the local grocery store had them for $1.50 each just recently. However, the ones at the grocery store were already yellowing from age, and were full of seeds. They were gross, not even worth that $1.50. A lot of times there's a reason the grocery stores put those things on sale, and that's to push them out the door when they're getting aged...

And if you average it out with stuff not on sale, Costco still tends to be cheaper. And especially if you're trying to hit multiple sales at multiple grocery stores, you're also burning a lot of time, gas and effort doing all that running around. Which I personally hate.

and ya steak is crazy. it was $49.99/KG for the prime ribs(?) one weekend then went the next week end and it was $52.99/KG

I'll still do one for RS, just been slammed with some personal stuff, and TBH that whole VLAD scenario left a bit of a sour taste in terms of engaging outside of here :lol

You make a good point. NOCOs are on sale right now at crappy tire....

It’s a terrible point. Buying a Costco battery isn’t wasting or spending money. You buy one battery and it’ll last the life of the car. Can your stupid charger do that ?!? No ?

Ever since switching my fleet to Costco batteries I’ve never bought another battery. Just return and get a new one when it craps out

We should definitely do one. Beef are getting so expensive and quality also declining.

Now I shop beef exclusively from a local butcher. Quite expensive comparing to say Costco or whatever, but the flavour is so much better. But even there I have the impression that meat is not as good as before.

It would be great to find something that regardless it's cheap or not, but at least knowing the quality is there.

Badhobz 11-26-2025 01:02 PM

Try the Costco business center whole slab of meats. They aren’t mechanically tenderized so it’s good stuff at great prices.

These are my Costco rules.

If you buy it and don't like it after one use --- OK to return*

If you buy it, and it breaks within 2 years --- OK to return**

If you buy it, use it, then return it (i.e. rental) --- LESS OK to return***

If you buy it, use it until it wears out, and/or it's more than two years ago --- NOT OK to return****

*Only packaged food, not perishable food, and as long as it's not cooked, and I didn't eat more than one taste/serving. Only do this at Costco, because they explicity allow it, so why not.

**Assuming the product generally lasts longer than two years.

***Allowed only once or twice in your lifetime. Times are hard.

****Unless it has a manufacture warranty longer than two years.

bcrdukes 11-26-2025 04:42 PM

Badhobz likely has a refute ready.

As 68 said, real estate thread, although I had to scrub my posts.

TLDR -- VLAD doxxed me, I've already figured out who he is in real life, along with his pops, there will be repercussions, but he did cause me a bit of a headache at the time.

WEAK.

You talk of morality. These companies have none.

WEAK.

keifun 11-26-2025 05:58 PM

I just had to replace my OEM battery just after 3yrs. Warrenty on the OEM just passed.
Went to Costco for a replacement. $184 for a Group 35 battery. Cheaper than CrappyTire.

Costco warrenty is full for 2yrs, then goes down in time after that.

Badhobz 11-26-2025 07:33 PM

Not two years. Four years.

Kirkland Signature Automotive (flooded battery)
0-to48 months - Free replacement
49-to66 months - 50% refund based on purchase price
67-to100 months - 25% refund based on purchase price

Return before 4 years and get a free one.

Thanks man, it wasn't too bad, just bad timing, that little shit sent his message to the GF at a really bad time, so it caused drama for a day or so.

I know enough information including his home address to make things interesting when I'm in Toronto next
