Thats if u believe Benning was the brains behind all the good drafting over the years. Alot of people believe that it was Brackett. And i tend to believe it. Pettersson was a Brackett pick, and Quinn fell into our laps. How can u possibly scout all theses young players when u have a NHL hockey team to run......

But for arguement sake, lets say he was the brains. 6 Drafts, 50+ picks and u got Demko, Boeser, Pettersson, Hughes, and Hoglander who are legit NHLers. Seems impressive but if u just randomly select a teams drafting record, you will basically find that every team has simliar success in the draft in the past 6-7 years as the Canucks.(Theres obvious exceptions, teams who dont have 1st round picks who are constantly contenders for the cup)

Now dont get me started with the UFAs hes signed and his cap management. This is his 7th? year, GMs normally dont have a tenure lasting this long and GMJB should be no different. He helped lay down the foundation but its time for someone else to finish the job.

There’s several articles on the athletic that have detailed out how Brackett fought tooth and nail for Pettersson and it wasn’t Benning’s preference.

Benning wanted Cody Glass and got veto'd for Pettersson because Linden, Brackett and Gradin fought hard for him.
