If you bought a crib from a reputable manufacturer/source, then the paint should be safe; but we went through the same thing and bought something like this: https://www.bedbathandbeyond.ca/stor...ib-rail-covers

FWIW ours ate a shit ton of paint and probably some wood while she was teething and she's fine.
+1 to this. Just get a cover for the railing. Kids will gnaw on anything when they start teething so you'll be getting covers etc for anything they can gnaw on.

Personally I avoid buying anything the kids might put in their mouths from Amazon, but I'm going to assume the person meant 1.5M cribs were recalled, not that they had killed 1.5M kids.

My wife feels the same way.

Although admittedly most of the known brands are all made in China anyway. But I would avoid the Liuixfishinystar teether 10 pack for $2.99.

They are, but the known brands are going to have actual quality standards for the materials used. The no name stuff is just gonna grab the cheapest stuff they can get their hands on.

Well the crib I'm looking at right now is sold at Best Buy. Is that reputable enough?
Amazon can also sell stuff from the brands that are also found in our local big box stores, not just third party stuff from China.

I looked at covers, but they seem to be top rail covers. But I assume babies would also go for the balusters too?

No they generally just go for the top ones. If the balusters are far apart enough that they can chomp on those then your crib likely isn't very safe in other ways lol.

I found a baby photo of my sister from 30+ years ago where the gap between the baluster was like 4 inches haha I mentioned to my parents that it probably wasn't very safe, then they reminded me that I slept in a drawer for a few months as an infant lol.

BB is fine, they're just acting as distributor, as long as the brand is of known quality.

Did your dad tell you that you were "top drawer stuff"?

I've also seen photos of me as a baby and marvelled at the "safety" of things back then. It's like watching those car crash videos of a 1960's Chevy Malibu versus a 2020 Honda Fit. Everyone in the Malibu turns into a bag of bones.

As we are getting ready for the 2nd one to arrive and either a) getting all the baby furniture out from storage, b) getting some of the stuff back from friends, or c) rebuying some of the stuff we got rid of. A thought came to my mind.

How the fuck did we manage in our townhouse that's literally half the size?

We lived in a 1238sqft townhouse when the 1st kid was born. We moved to a 3000sqft house, minus the basement which gives us roughly 2400sqft. Yes there were compromises before such as my WFH setup is literally 1/2 the size, and there was a huge 80sqft storage unit in the parkade for us. But wtf how am I tripping over stuff left right and center?

Yeah the crib you're looking at should be fine, both of my kids are/were in Delta cribs and they're great. It was more a general statement about Amazon since they're full of counterfeit stuff now.

I wouldn't buy Chinese counterfeit from Amazon. Too expensive...
That's what AliExpress is for. Plus I get Rakuten cashback from AE.

A lot of it isn't obviously counterfeit from the listing though, apparently the products from shady suppliers are getting dumped into the same bins as legit stuff and getting sent out. Idk what stuff does and doesn't have enough of a market that people make fakes but I don't feel like dealing with the hassle of checking or worrying about it.

Just got an email from my daughter's daycare, I'm stoked for the reduced fees. Going from $1028 down to $483.

Taking a 2.5 year old on an 10+ hour flight next week.

Any specific tips?

She has her own seat, we'll bring a tablet w/ headphones, snacks, colouring books - anything else?

Sugar free candy to help with ears popping, all the new toys and activities you can carry.

If possible sound machine -> headphones/blanket to help with sleep

Aren't candies still a choking hazard at this age? Any recommendations?

It's the chewing/swallowing that helps pop the ears. Any small snacks your kid likes should help with that.

Varies on child, I had lollipops prepared but never had to use them.

Are the crib mattresses with those ratings:
Greenguard Gold
CertiPur-US
etc

All applicable for Canadian standards as well? I assume so, but I guess it doesn't hurt to double check...?

Personally I read a lot on reviews but never on the ratings. (though I should have)

We ended up with the Moonlight slumber
https://www.buybuybaby.com/store/pro...yword=mattress

good for infant and toddler, waited for the 25% off coupon and got it for a good price.

I'm pretty sure I saw the Irownwood McDonald's Play Place open the other day. Steveston Hwy and No 5 Rd.

My twin boys are getting discharged from NICU tomorrow. Excited to finally bring them home! I guess my next post will be in 18 years?

If you're a Hasan Minhaj fan he's got a new stand up show on Netflix called King's Jester that touches on fertility and fatherhood that most parents will enjoy. I had a good laugh out of it.

Following up as we're back from our trip.

Flight there, 11 hours, boarded around 2pm local time - child is happily occupied for the first 3 hours, then got cranky and had to be lulled/hushed/held in the galley for 30 minutes to fall asleep. Once asleep slept for about 5 hours (as it is roughly her usual sleeping time). She got woken when they turned on all the lights for second meal, and was up until landing. Landed at 5pm local time, slept the 1 hour trip home, slept around 10pm local time and was up at 3am. Did not fall back asleep.

No signs of jetlag other than that, and was a very good sleep for the 3 weeks we were there. Thoroughly enjoyed sleeping in the same bed as mom and dad lol.

Flight back, 9 hours, boarded around 6pm local time - happily occupied for about 2 hours, then again had to fight to get her to sleep, but she slept for about 5 hours. Landed here around noon local time, no nap, went to sleep around 8pm and was up at 4am saying she was hungry lol. But went back down in about an hour, was up at 8am.

All in all, not too bad, and far better than what we were fearing. But I feel 2.5 years is a bad age to travel lol, they're very active/mobile but not yet fully listening, we had to chase her around crowded places, etc. So either go when they're younger or old enough to not worry about losing them or falling off a ledge or something.
