I don’t blame Horgan for the shitty state of BC first responders being equipped to deal with it. That was decades of bad policy making, but it doesn’t matter if people are aware of it if it’s taking ambulances 1.5 hours to get there, or 17 minutes to get an answer on 911. To not acknowledge that as the issue is fucking clueless.

I did 4-10am, 6-11pm a couple times, just to get around the heat. I'm too fat for 45°

Fuck this guy just can’t stop saying dumb shit.

Yeah, he should just talk less and let people who work with him, the experts, do all the talking. I'm not sure how bright Horgan is. Winston Churchill was not a smart man, either, but he was smart in one way. He had the sense to listen to his advisors and trusted them. He was good at speeches, that's for sure. Then, there's Dotard. He was stupid and advertised it openly. He didn't have good advisors, because he fired them all. Anyway, politicians............. nuff said.

When we called our father in law's (He's in his late 70's) home last Wednesday, he was not aware of the potential heat wave.

Not all elderly people are created equal. My mother and people in her circle never watched the news. They didn't because they grew up without technology. Their world was not like those who grew up with books, good education, and good role models. My mother-in-law, on the other hand was always watching the news. She read constantly. Her brothers are also well educated. One is a newspaper editor, while one is a principal. They were all learned people. The one brother who immigrated to Los Angeles, opened up a small business that grew into a liquor store. Before he retired wealthy, he owned a strip mall.

I got the advice to do the crackhouse thing by putting up foil on my windows - it worked reasonably well, definitely knocked down temps by a few degrees. Nobody showed up asking if I was selling drugs though.

Now that temps are down I'm taking it down as I'm going more for a whorehouse look.

Sensitivityscene

They were speculating there may have been 300-500 additional deaths from the heat in the last 3 days.

500 deaths would be 30% of the total covid deaths from the beggining of Covid in 3 days.

Isn't the argument that "man made global warming is a hoax" and not just global warming?

Theres also the "China and India are at fault so why should we change our behaviour" angle.

pastarocket 07-01-2021 08:38 PM

If people thought more of their homes as not just "Vancouver" or "Canada" but EARTH, perhaps humanity realizes how interconnected our world is right now

Earth is our home. It's a house of people of different backgrounds living in separate rooms in a big house.

If that house gets hotter and hotter inside because of fires in one room, guess what, the whole house is going to be hotter, or worse the whole house burns down.

China and India can certainly help our home Earth avoid irreversible climate change by lowering their carbon emissions quicker.

It's not just China and India though. Our American neighbors produce the second most amount of carbon emissions in the world.

It's going to take a global effort from the U.S, China, India, Russia, and pretty much every industrialized country in the world to stop our home Earth from turning into an uninhabitable sauna.

Juniper Ridge in Kamloops is on fire, a small suburb with only one road in and out.

** my sister just texted saying the rain has started coming down. Hope it's enough.
