I better unbox mine just to make sure............... but too lazy, lol. I'll get around to it. You and I got the same batch, so yeah, better get on it. Not looking forward to having to go back and return it.

BTW, did you see the guy who was returning last year's model? White, single hose. He said he was going to get the black one............. lady in the return line ahead of him asked what was wrong with it. No answer.

Mine's like a suuper dim orange, can't read shit if more than a foot away.

Did I get a dud?

I have the same issue too, everything else works fine though.

blkgsr 07-08-2021 08:20 AM

some pretty bad reviews on costco website for this unit

inv4zn 07-08-2021 08:25 AM

It cools fine (rather well actually, although it's not that hot outside), and it's the quietest AC I've had, so I'm rather impressed.

I asked the same question on RFD and others have said it's the same, so it may be by design...but it's such a strange design choice. I mean if most people have the same 'issue' it may not be an issue at all?

blkgsr 07-08-2021 08:28 AM

seems like they're out of stock

I did see the guy with a white one in his cart...is that what he was doing though? Shitty people eh?

Now I'm curious who you were that morning...can't remember anyone resembling master roshi...

Y'all check to make sure there isn't some screen protector attached that needs to be taken off?

Honestly, online reviews aren't the best for accuracy.

I assume most people are like me that if I like the product, I'm not going to review it.

So you end up with people who don't like it and basically rag on it for everything. These are the same people who won't be happy unless it's a portable AC that weighs less than 5lbs, that can cool a 600sqft room in less than 5mins, is completely silent, while not consumer more electricity than a cellphone charger.

EvoFire 07-08-2021 09:55 AM

See if I can get one later in the year. It'll be helpful to have one rolling around the house just in case.

headhunt3r 07-08-2021 11:14 AM

Costco has their popular Danby back in stock.. only ~20 left now.

Edit - all gone again.

I'd also say people with too high of an expectation of a portable AC.

First off, as far as I know, portable ACs are going to be loud, regardless of brand or model. Some people might be more sensitive to noise than others, but unfortunately it's pretty common across the board.

Secondly is that for the BTU output and energy they use, portable ACs just aren't very efficient compared to window ACs or central air.

Also when they say its 'portable', it's not really that portable in that you can easily switch it from room to room.

I think it's pretty pointless for people to complain about it if their alternative is not having an AC.

Hondaracer 07-08-2021 11:22 AM

It’s like a dishwasher. If you’re spending bottom dollar for an AC expecting it to be quiet, you’re out to lunch.

The difference in pricing for dishwashers that have like a 15 decibel difference is $400-700

So many variables when it comes to cooling a room they should almost have a strict no return policy on all of them

Damn, I knew something was off........I mean on........ I mean..........

There was three layers of that shit on mine. I couldn't believe it. Who the hell would do that to people? Took first layer off, but still dark and fuzzy. Took the second layer off and.................

:troll:

Yeah, haven't unboxed it yet.

I live in a condo that faces west lol. It's hot AF throughout the day so I rarely open the blinds and curtains. The door is never used.

Mind posting pix of your setup?

fliptuner 07-08-2021 05:33 PM

I got the same AC for $100, off a friend that moved to a place with central AC. Thought about selling it during the heatwave when they were going for $1k lol

Is the air from the hallway any cooler? If so, try putting a fan at your front door.

my "dual hose" costco danby has the orange faint led too

I saw in the rfd thread someone had white leds that were actually legible... might warrant a return if new batches have proper lighting

CRS 07-09-2021 06:01 AM

I ordered another one for my parents. Will update about LED situation.

Vansterdam 07-09-2021 06:34 AM

what do you guys recommend for regular fans? tower fans?

I was eyeing the woozoo brand for reg fans

https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B084PVHNM8/ref=emc_b_5_t?th=1

nismodrifter 07-09-2021 09:00 AM

I have honeywell tower fans, have one that I bought for 39.99 like 8 years ago, running strong, silent. I bought 2 more recently.

inv4zn 07-09-2021 09:51 AM

It depends on what your priorities are with the fan - air movement, noise, form factor, etc.

I think those Rowenta ones move a significant amount of air but they're loud AF at high speeds.

blkgsr 07-09-2021 11:15 AM

a few years ago i installed a few ceiling fans in the bedrooms. the one in my master is quiet and has been awesome during the heat
