I dunno man, some Canadian teams I'm ok with winning a cup. Toronto? Hell no. Let's not forget they painted us as "the most hated team in the NHL" back in 2011. And by they, I mean the eastern biased hockey media. That seemingly came out of nowhere as I had never heard of anyone refer to our team as that. Anyways, a lot of Canadian markets actively cheered against us so I have no reservations about cheering against their team when it's their time too. Rivalries are more fun sometimes :lol

VGK fires DeBoer. Didn't expected that tho

Vegas is turning into what Philly used to be. Always these huge changes, always in play for every big name, no patience etc. lol

I can see Vegas hiring Trotz now

I'd way rather see Calgary/Edmonton/Toronto make it through than any of the other teams remaining.

More Canadian teams winning = more dollars and attention = more expansion in the Canadian market.

I'll always cheer for a Canadian team over any American one.

All of this with the exception of Dallas for me as I know JB personally. That and I can't stand Lucic after a run in with him at the Roxy (lol) after the Bruins won the cup. But if Calgary gets through I'll still root for them over the American teams.

People don't hate the Canucks players or organization, they hate the smug fairweather and/or corporate style fanbase. The 94 riot was bad, the 2011 riot was worse. Lots of people outside Vancouver don't want to see the city/fanbase win for those reasons.

That's a good logical choice.

invalid question. it's obviously about how the game was played when those teams were Champs.

Marner got carjacked in a sketch area in Toronto.

this is why some regard their inaugural season as a curse rather than a blessing. their initial plan was to become a contender in 5-6 years. now they had a taste and like a true addict, keep trying to find the quickest way back to a cup final and damned be the future

When it rains, it pours for Marner.

At least the cup holders in his black
Range Rover were empty. No Stanley Cup. LUL

I'll always cheer for the Canadian teams, and other small market teams with good fanbases.

It sucks for cities to lose their beloved teams just because there's not enough people to make as big of a profit that billionaire owners want. Not that they don't make money, just that they don't make enough of it, to one person's or a small group's benefit.

Canucks > Canadian teams > small market teams with a fanbase > underdog teams with a fanbase > underdog teams > winning teams with a fanbase > all others > whoever is playing against the Lightning or Bruins. That's the order I choose to root for

In the Battle of Alberta I'll be cheering for the Oilers because except for Lamar Jackson, my sportsboner can't get any bigger than it does for Connor McDavid the Hockey God. And their home jerseys are sick af.

Finally, I don't begrudge anyone for not wanting to cheer for the Laffs. I'll still root for them, but I understand. But I think Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, etc could use support from the whole country.

whitev70r 05-17-2022 07:38 AM

^ Yah ... all things being equal and if your fave/local team isn't in it ... why would you cheer for an American city team? Unless you grew up there and transplanted here to YVR? Or, if you loved one of the original 6? It was like the Raptors ... even though they were in Toronto ... why wouldn't you cheer for them? If you're a MLB fan ... Blue Jays?

Anyhow, to each his/her own, there is no 'shoulds' here .. it's just an interest or fandom thing.

winson604 05-17-2022 09:36 AM

I disagree that as a Canadian we should be cheering for Canadian teams. People have favorite teams that are outside their City or even Country all the time for a variety of reasons that could or could not make any sense to anyone at all. Favorite player on that team, parent grew up liking them and you followed, heck maybe you just like their logo and that's how it started. Plus to me I'll always know sure American team but tons good ol Canadian boys on that team and I'm more hoping they win it the the City is an after thought for me. I'm cheering more for player(s) and less for the City.

To each their own though, there's no right or wrong. Just cause you're born and raised in Van I don't expect you to love the Canucks by default, if it happens to be the Laffs so be it.

MG1 05-17-2022 10:07 AM

I just want to see Lucic burn in hell /rant.

I don't even mind a Marchand or a Tkachuk. Lucic is right up there with the likes of Messier and........... Shoresy, gulolol.

Totally agree, but if your team isn't in it, why not cheer the Canadian teams? Of course you don't "have to" but it just feels right to me...

Liquid_o2 05-17-2022 03:20 PM

I don't think I could cheer for Toronto or Calgary. Not until the Canucks win a cup at least haha. But I am good with any of the other Canadian teams winning and I would cheer them on in a Final.

68style 05-17-2022 03:24 PM

I thought I could maybe start cheering for Calgary... until I sat with some Calgary fans for Game 7 at their house... and the more they cheered and talked about how great Calgary is... the more I started to cheer quietly for Oettinger lol

Good thing I left before the OT, don't think I could have hid my lack of cheerfulness when they won hahaha

SkinnyPupp 05-17-2022 04:36 PM

Finally this game is getting good

Binnington is standing on his head
in this game.

Kyrou with that sick toe drag move to score the second goal for St. Louis.

Overtime!

wow I missed the entire Colorado game due to an emergency and I still get to watch OT? POGGERS

(I think it's over now but it's unspoiled for me so watching now!)

SkinnyPupp 05-17-2022 09:17 PM

OK based on what I saw in this overtime, either Binnington robs them of a few games, or Colorado gets another sweep

murd0c 05-18-2022 07:22 AM

the way the AVs were playing last night Binnington won't be able to do that all series, I can honestly see them getting another sweep and being off for a week and a half while the Oilers and Flames shit kick each other.

Hondaracer 05-18-2022 08:25 AM

I don’t think Edmonton will be able to beat Colorado if they advance.

The only hope really is Markstrom

whitev70r 05-18-2022 08:45 AM

If Edmonton can get past Flames, it would be a big step and a moral victory ... yah, no way they can keep up with Colorado.

68style 05-18-2022 08:52 AM

There’s no way Mike Smith can keep up the pace if they keep going 7 games too… he’s my age and yes I’m not a pro athlete but I’m in pretty good shape and I know what I feel like after every game I play…

I can’t imagine he feels much better, especially playing at that level.
