I learned from parents of young children, a cousin of mine, that you can never be too careful these days with authority figures in organized sports for youth.

There are predators, and evil men in positions of authority such as coaches in team sports who can take advantage of their position to abuse young men, and women, in horrible and disgusting ways.

Watching that interview was incredibly hard, I don't think there's a way anyone can watch it and not tear up or cry...
I can't believe the teammates that were saying homophobic slurs around him after it got out........... I can't believe Joel Quennville is going to coach a game tonight in the NHL.

The big question now is what the NHL and Bettman are going to do, if anything, to help Kyle Beach.
The guy is clearly not well mentally judging from the gut wrenching interview that I just saw on TSN.
Is the NHLPA under Don Fehr going to come up with measures, and a plan to better protect players from the risk of abuse from coaching staff?
Beach said that he was scared for his career. He said at the time as a 20 year old he did not know what to do after Aldrich sexually abused him. Beach said that he turned to drugs and alcohol. -tried to suppress those horrible memories.

RW: I suppose it should also be pointed out that according to the report, that on multiple occasions, Don Fehr – the executive director of the NHL Players’ Association – was also made aware of concerns about Brad Aldrich’s misconduct and promised people to investigate and didn’t. So, would you hold him to the same standard?
KB: Absolutely, I would. He represents the players. I don’t know where I fall under the NHLPA – I never played games other than pre-season, but I was on an NHL roster when this happened, albeit as a Black Ace. I know I reported every single detail to an individual at the NHLPA, who I was put in contact with after. I believe two different people talked to Don Fehr. And for him to turn his back on the players when his one job is to protect the players at all costs, I don’t know how that can be your leader. I don’t know how he can be in charge. If that’s what he’s going to do when a player comes to you and tells you something, whether it be abuse, whether it be drugs, whether it be anything, you’re supposed to have the players’ backs and they definitely didn’t have mine.

yeah that was a really tough interview. you can see the pain and anguish it still causes Beach to recall what happened. there are some real pieces of shit in the NHL.

Seemed like he did it right before the regular season started. And then once the season started, everyone forgot about it.

You would think that the NHL executives and shorty (Bettman) would have learned something about protecting its players after former Bruins player Sheldon Kennedy went out in public to talk about the abuse he received as a hockey player.
Bettman announced that the league recently set up an anonymous "Hotline" for anyone person in the NHL to report abuse.
It took the NHL how many years to finally get this hotline up and running??
NHL Player Safety needs to include protecting players not only from physical injury but also mental trauma from abuse.

It's the same as almost every other organization and corporation out there. It's all about protecting the organization, not employees. It's the reason why organizations employ lawyers & HR staff. One would think they are there to look out for the employees, but sadly, that's not the case.

Worse thing about Canucks home games is listening to the person playing their sax for almost 2 hours. Not even that good and the same songs over and over again. Fine for the people walking by, shit for the people living near Rogers.
