If it's Green or Benning going, who would you pick?

Hondaracer 11-16-2021 02:00 PM

Benning

Benning is on his way out either way. I’d rather not have a lame duck coach they bring in as a a band aid only to be let go once the new GM arrives

That explains why I got access to dirt cheap tickets in Section 100s. :suspicious: (:troll:)

Next GM should pick the next coach

BlackV62K2 11-16-2021 02:31 PM

Agreed on Benning. He's had so many years and chances to turn this team around but have made so many shit moves & band-aid attempts that further caused the team to be even more shit.

whitev70r 11-16-2021 02:56 PM

Firing Benning won't have any dramatic or short-term difference on the ice.

But yah, let's make it easy on Aquilini ... fire them both and keep paying them, add them 2 to the 'people who are still getting paid but doesn't work here' list ... you know, the one that Luongo is on.

68style 11-16-2021 04:35 PM

^
That's nobody's fault except the NHL's and... sort of Luongo being a dick... mostly the NHL though.

6thGear. 11-16-2021 04:37 PM

Loungo's isn't on Benning. What other team has the NHL done the same recapture to....no one. If anything Gillis is the one to blame signing Loungo to that contract and Florida getting him to retire vs LTIR

Yea such bs, every player up to that point was thrown on LTIR yet Luongo is the first one to actually retire instead and force recapture.

Yah cuz he wanted to work with Team Canada... can't work in hockey if you don't retire.

Curious to see what's going to happen with Shea Weber, he's got a million years left on his contract same structure as Luongo's and I doubt he will ever play again... if he retires and the NHL isn't biased against Vancouver only, Nashville will be eating some serious salary cap shit.

whitev70r 11-16-2021 07:45 PM

Do it the Leafs way ... just lay low on LTIR ... can you say Joffrey Lupul?

Reminds me of Chris Pronger, who didn't retire and ended up in management somehow.
Quote:

With a resumption of his playing career looking unlikely, Pronger stepped down as team captain and was succeeded by Claude Giroux on January 15, 2013.[30] However, Pronger did not officially retire from the NHL because his contract ran through to the 2016–17 season. Under the terms of the NHL collective bargaining agreement, because he was at least 35 years old before the contract began, the Flyers were on the hook for the $4.9 million cost against the salary cap each season, though they were able to receive relief by placing Pronger on long-term injured reserve at the start of each season. Had Pronger formally retired, the Flyers would lose that ability and his contract amount would have counted in full against the cap and he would not receive the remainder of the amounts owed to him under the contract ($12.15 million at the start of the 2013–14 season). [31] While no longer playing, Pronger remained with the Flyers organization helping to scout and interview prospects.[29]

On June 27, 2015, the Philadelphia Flyers traded Pronger's playing rights (alongside Nicklas Grossmann) to the Arizona Coyotes in exchange for Sam Gagner and a conditional draft pick. The deal was made to the benefit of salary cap implications to each club, as Pronger never played for Arizona. Three days later, on June 30, 2015, he was named to the Hockey Hall of Fame; because the Hall only counts games played as its criteria for the minimum waiting period, Pronger was eligible for induction even though he was still technically an active player, as he had not played a game in three full seasons at the time of his induction.

Weber's getting paid $6mil this year, and owed a total of $6mil over the next 4 years. Unless he doesn't care about the money, I doubt he'll be retiring. And even if he does retire, a new CBA might potentially save the Preds from that crazy recapture penalty.

As it stands, if he retires in 2025, the recapture penalty is $25mil, lol

My problem with Luongo recapture isn't the fact that he retired... but the fucking NHL who penalized the Canucks AFTER the fact

There were tons of contracts eligible for recapture as well though, just none of them retired.

BlackV62K2 11-17-2021 08:48 PM

Canucks really are "a team like that"

highfive 11-17-2021 08:50 PM

Man if you watch the last minute of the game and the time out. You can clearly see the difference between the two teams. Avs you see the coach talking about a play. The other side green just standing there. Jason king stands there like he’s the big shot of his glory days with the twins. Lol

Hondaracer 11-17-2021 08:55 PM

Worst case scenario.. uhg

Expresso 11-17-2021 09:30 PM

Pretty sure Aquaman won't fire anyone cause he doesn't want to pay two salaries. Sure hope I'm wrong though.

teggy604 11-17-2021 09:31 PM

Its time to tank. Lol.

Alpine 11-17-2021 09:43 PM

So we’ve basically missed the playoffs already lol

CRS 11-17-2021 10:45 PM

So Shane Wright, everyone?
