I was in total awe of this old "residence" of Robert Dunsmuir. Nothing beats old money. The gaudy 20-40mil+ dollar mansions in Vancouver cant hold a candle to how inspiring this castle is

I have an super old pic of that when I was still in Vancouver. Should have drove in lol. But I remember I did go inside the actual castle for the tour.

I went to a wedding at Hatley and some of us snuck upstairs to find a small door that led us up a ladder to the turret.

Good times indeed.

Badhobz 08-16-2022 05:53 AM

^sounds like an awesome venue for a wedding. Beats the shit out of some golf course in Vancouver. Those gardens in the back of the castle are super pretty as well. On par with butchart.

I toured the inside of Hatley and most of it was converted to royal roads university offices now. Kind of lost its magic unlike his dads house, which is still insanely well preserved.

When I went earlier this summer there were already signs at the corner saying service vehicles only

Yup! Heritage 6. Haven't seen any FK8s run it and rough Photoshops looked pretty good so I just went ahead with a set. They're heavy though.. like OEM weight..

^how do you get collectors plate on a 07 CLK ? i thought it has to be 25 years or older or limited production w/ the automaker CEASING to make any vehicles.

To qualify, your vehicle must be one of the following:

25 years or older

A limited production vehicle

15 years or older, and
1 of no more than 1,500 of that make and model (not edition) produced worldwide by the manufacturer for that model year

A discontinued vehicle

15 years or older, and
A manufacturer that owns the "trademark" or "make" of that vehicle has ceased manufacturing vehicles of any kind for at least the last five years

There’s much fewer than 1500 CLK63’s workdwide.

There’s quite a few Mercs you can do this with… 2006 C55 AMG is another one…. CLK65 and 55 I believe as well if it’s an ‘05… one of the years of C32 qualifies too

AzNightmare 08-16-2022 08:48 PM

lol... seeing a car like that with a collector's plate makes me feel old...

I got it under limited production. You ideally need a letter from the manufacturer.

Mercedes Canada got back me that only 400 CLK63s were made worldwide for 2007.

It's one of the rarer AMGs for sure.

JDMDreams 08-16-2022 09:34 PM

^^ how did you get that, I've spoken to Mercedes dealer Canada/ USA and MB Canada/ USA and they say they don't release those numbers.

I was trying to figure out if the 2006 C55 qualified when I was looking for one, I just emailed Mercedes Canada and asked... they emailed back about a week later asking for my VIN# to check so I just grabbed a random VIN# from a 06 I saw for sale and gave them that... then they wrote back and told me how many were built another week or so later.

To be honest, I think they gave me the publicly availably North America numbers (just google AMG production numbers it's all over the Mercedes forums) but hey I doubt ICBC would know any better.

320icar 08-17-2022 12:46 AM

So…. Don’t they count the cl55 or whatever as a normal c class coupe/convertible?

Say with my focus RS they sold barely any in Canada. But they don’t consider the RS special, it’s ‘just a focus and they made a million of those’ no?

It's not about what they consider special or not - that wouldn't be clear. They look at make and model for limited production.

So make = Mercedes, model = CLK63

The Focus 'RS' in your case may be considered a sub-model to ICBC which may still work if you had a letter from Ford saying that less than 1500 were made worldwide in a given year. The reason I say this that there is a 2000 Mustang 'SVT Cobra R' on collector plates in BC. So it is doable even with a sub-model as long as the numbers are there.
