But Petey was playing really well in the first half of the season under Tocchet and then after the all star game/after he signed his new contract he fell off. So I don't think it has anything to do with the system we're using it's just him and his confidence.

As for tonight, shit who even knows what to expect. I'm hoping we have a solid effort none of this generating no shots nonsense, decent enough goaltending, and Petey finally does something., anything.

I've found over the last two years, the Canucks actually goes through stretches where they don't generate a lot of shots but they still score goals. They are just super efficient with it and the shooting percentage goes through the roof.

there was a lot of speculation from the broadcasters that Petey is playing hurt. it makes sense too, he's falling over on all sorts of plays and even on his own without contact. it's not just an issue of confidence, from what they're all saying.

I want to believe this is true, but they've literally been saying that all season long about him. He had 2 other stretches in both November and February where he went 6+ games without scoring and now he's in a 1 goal in his last 17 games slump including the playoffs... I'm not so sure we can keep saying that when it's the 3rd time this year he's not shooting the puck and not scoring.

And if he's hurt, why is he spending the entire end of practice with Gonchar feeding him one-timers? Wouldn't that aggravate an injury if that's why he's not shooting anymore?

At least he's getting assists I guess.

either way, whatever it is, it's not enough to keep him out of the lineup. also, we won't know the nature of the injury until playoffs end for them. we can speculate all we want but end of the day as fans, all we can do is support the team and offer encouragement. he's a competitive person and an excellent talent. he absolutely wants to be contributing more.

Petey's stat line in the playoffs is extremely concerning...

So 20 mins a game, 4 shots on goal, -3 and 2A... yikes... that's like 3/4th line numbers and with a lot more TOI...

I hope he can turn it around, but he's not really addressing his critics right now that he's too soft when the going gets tough.

Miller is playing the same amount of ice time and here are his numbers by comparison:

G4: 0G 3A +2 Shots: 1 TOI: 21:40
G3: 1G 1A 0 Shots: 6 TOI: 19:35
G2: 0G 0A -1 Shots: 3 TOI: 22:19
G1: 0G 1A +2 Shots: 0 TOI: 19:40

So 1G 5A and 10 shots on goal

Boeser is similar, scoring off Miller's assists... so 4G 1A and 11 shots so far.

Honeslty I think part of the problem is the lineup too? I like Hoglander, but Mikheyev is useless and I think that's hurting Petey as well. I'd rather see Podz in the lineup on his line. Hogs and Podz bashing around and digging in the corners opens up space. Mikheyev gets swatted like a fly anytime a D gets near him or there's a boards battle.

well yeah, we all know Mikheyev has been snake bitten all year. I do think he's been playing better lately though tbh. Hoagie has yet to breakthrough and contribute like we know he can. On the plus side, he is drawing penalties and pissing off the Preds. I don't know if their line combination is a good one but who else do we put there? Podz is an option but has no playoff experience, it could be too much for him right now. They tried Lafferty for a bit but it just wasn't working. There aren't many viable options beyond that.

I think Podz is basically the same player as Mikheyev, but more gritty, hits harder, has a much harder shot than Mikheyev and a bigger body. Perhaps his defensive details are keeping him out of the lineup right now? That's the only thing I can think of.

You can put Petey with Boeser in the wing or Miller in the wing and nothing will happen. I think Tocchet even tried to put Petey with Garland and Dak? If you are 1C you should be able to carry your own line like Hughes. He can pretty much play with anybody and make them better. Reason why is because he can create space and draw two people to him at any given time. Petey can't do that.

Mikheyev is faster and more defensive than Podz, which is what you want against a team like Nashville who likes to run and gun. Mik can't pot a goal to save his life right now but Podz hasn't been able to score either so.... :shrug:
