More fodder for Toyota drop off in quality and reliabilit.

Nearly 20,000 Toyota vehicles recalled in Canada due to risk of rear doors opening while driving
https://www.ctvnews.ca/business/auto...while-driving/

On certain vehicles, water could leak into the rear door handle and cause the door opener switch to short circuit. If this happens, the rear door could open unexpectedly while driving,” the updated notice by Transport Canada says.

The affected models are:

Toyota Prius, model years 2023 to 2026
Toyota Prius Prime, model years 2023 to 2026

I see an Alfa Romeo in my near future. :troll:

JDMDreams 02-01-2026 02:01 PM

I'm surprised, cuz aren't Prius made in Japan?

Badhobz 02-01-2026 05:53 PM

it doesnt matter. japanese made isnt a mark of quality anymore. The suppliers for these parts are the ones to blame (at the behest of the OEMs). They all cut corners on the individual components and on build quality.

RabidRat 02-02-2026 07:25 AM

How about just not having electronic door openers in the first place?!1?

bcrdukes 02-02-2026 07:39 AM

I spoke to my cousin who has a 2025 Prius (unsure of which trim). He's in the US and had this recall completed at least a year ago, so this is not "new" per se. Just new and official in Canada.

bcrdukes 02-02-2026 07:44 AM

I'm going to about-face on this and ensure all of my money goes to Toyota. :fuckyea:

Badhobz 02-02-2026 07:54 AM

So if that toyota century SUV comes here, i might buy one.

bcrdukes 02-02-2026 07:55 AM

Has the Century ever been sold outside of Japan? I will make the assumption that the answer is no, other than grey market imports.

Badhobz 02-02-2026 08:02 AM

i dont know.

i think maybe in CHINAR cuz i saw an instagram about some ching chong taking delievery of his century SUV and his hot ass bimbo was basically sucking him off.

Im not sure about having a bird logo on the front and back.... i hate birds.

JDMDreams 02-02-2026 09:18 AM

It's a Phoenix, hand made, levels to this shit, unlike your jumping horses :troll:

Badhobz 02-02-2026 09:38 AM

phoenix!? so its even worse now that its a mythical bird that doesnt even exist....

bcrdukes 02-02-2026 10:14 AM

Ergo, nor shall your Century. :troll:

dark0821 02-02-2026 08:44 PM

I thought that was actually pretty cool. I kind of chuckled at “dozens of hours though.”

can't put this in good buys - terrible boomer ad, not an amazing price

but, back out the cost of what looks to be a OEM hard top, and it's starts to look better.

2018 McLaren 720s with 1100kms for $300k. Wonder what kind of maintenance it'd need to actually be in proper running condition. McLaren's weren't exactly known for good build quality.

I would say general costs for consumables should only be a tad more than your Acura. The only kick in the teeth is the meticulous maintenance / replacement requirements or rather, tolerances aren't as forgiving as your typical Japanese car. Cost wise, I would factor in double, or triple what you are used to paying for major service intervals. There are independents you can use and have some flexibility to defer certain items as opposed to the dealer.

Regarding reliability, as long as you are driving it normally, they are okay. It's when you hit the track is when they show their ugly side. This would be an awesome car to drop your kid off at school and afterschool pickup. :D

68style 02-09-2026 06:10 AM

I listened to a McLaren owner here talk for 2 minutes about issue she had with the car from day of delivery na through his first year and just walked away shaking my head, insane how badly made they are.

Fuck is it ever fast though.
