i recently checked my billing and for the 1st time ever telus has been billing me correctly this year, i'm a little scared what happened i'm not used to this basic level of competency LOL
lol man fuck Telus. So my 24 month internet contract was up this month so I called a month ago to see what kind of deals I can get because I ain't paying full price. I had already cut cable 2 years ago so I wasn't interested in paying more than I already was. They ended up offering me a deal that includes TV and 3 add ons which can include streaming services. I already subscribe to Disney and Netflix on my own and to add the TV package was about the same as what I already pay + I get 1 more add on plus local TV. So good deal I took it.
The change over to Netflix was smooth, I got a link directly from Netflix confirming the change in who pays. The Disney however has to be done via the Telus page and no matter what I did whether it was using the web version of the app would not work. Kept saying some error and try later. Additionally, when I click on my account details it would show my internet plan details but it won't load my TV details. Called numerous times and those outsourced English second language idiots kept thinking I'm saying that the webpage won't load as if I'm trying to say I have browser issues when I'm trying to tell them it's the link within their page that won't load the details to allow me to activate my Disney Plus. Escalations and promises of call backs resulted in shit all. Got fed up, called back to cancel the TV and just leave me alone with internet. What's worse is going into my reddit deep dive the issue of not being able to load your TV page to is a common issue. I would just leave entirely and go back to Rogers but the discounts I get there aren't as good since with Telus I get EPP + 25% discount for my address at minimum.
We somehow got it working, we got the koodo TV discount thingy which I think is a similar thing so it bundles prime, disney+ and netflix all in one go. The Disney thing did take a few tries.
I have enough experience with Telus to say with certainty they always release things to market as fast as possible and their QA is garbage. It's in their DNA.
I recall seeing stories about Telus (allegedly) purposely fucking up bills and people were over paying until Telus got called out on it by their own customers. Which leads one to believe that there are many customers out there who have no idea they're paying too much because they've pre-approved payment and don't think twice about it.
Funny thing, TELUS's online billing portal gives you the option of saving your credit card number in your profile. I typically don't do that, but for TELUS I thought sure, it would be more convenient. It never works! haha
Everytime I use their site to do anything with my accounts, it ends up being a waste of time.
I only stick with TELUS because I'm getting a decent deal, but yeah I have learned to expect zero quality in a lot of things with them.

Thank goodness I check my bill every month!
People are still very loyal to Telus, though. So I guess people are okay with it.

Without getting into the secret sauce with these guys, you're encouraged to go on PAD as it becomes more out of sight, out of mind. Hence the reason they even offer a $5 monthly discount when you setup PAD.
You're less likely to review your bill when it's deducted automatically each month, making it easier for the inevitable funny business to occur on your monthly charges.
By pushing rather then allowing them to pull, gives you more leverage to identify any issues with your bill and have it remedied immediately.

I've had it happen to 3 people I know. I'm pretty sure I've posted the whole story before so I'll spare you the details but the tl;dr is never, ever trust Telus to do anything but try to scam you.

I don't remember which thread was discussing unions but they are all a lie and a waste of time.
There's enough laws enacted now that protects workers and their rights. You don't need another layer of fat that's skimming off the top of your salary.
Union meetings are absolute cringe wanks.
Anytime there's a collective agreement renewal, it's always the same old 'need more! Let's strike!' blah blah blah
The union will amp everyone up in proper psuedo-utopian fashion so we can act as their soldiers of righteousness and virtue to 'stick in to the evil management!'
Then 2 things happen:
A) The night before the supposed strike happens, they settle on a new agreement and little to nothing has changed. Maybe some extra tarter sauce in the cafeteria. Turns out, the union couldn't afford strike pay for its 200 members who were about to walk off the job because 300 members working for a different company across the country might walk too!
OR
B) We strike, the company gives into our demands and we all pat ourselves on the back for a job well done, THANK YOU FOR PUTTING THE YOU IN YOUNION!
8...months...later
Mass layoffs. Facilities shutting down. You're on your own now.
You didn't win. You can't win with a union behind you. It's just legal racketeering.
If you show up on time for work everyday, a union does nothing for you.
They are that irrelevant now.
Only like long shore is relevant any longer and it’s really only there to keep the criminal element in the ports. Every other one is trash.
I’m in a huge union now and our contract is expired, we aren’t even starting negotiations until the fall. So it will be a year or more until ratification of a new deal and there won’t be retroactive pay increases. So a 3 year contract is effectively 4. Awesome.
The vast majority of my colleagues don’t use their benefits, so they are basically getting paid less than the private sector equivalent and not utilizing the “perks” that come with this job.
After my experience with the steel workers union who represented Telus workers, legit I hope the people who were in charge of that shit all die. Fucking straight up clowns who did EXACTLY what was outlined above.
“We are strong! They can’t replace us! Push back!! We will strike!!”
“Telus is offering to not adjust your pension plan, we suggest you accept”
90% of the work force forcibly pushed out
Well done.

Modern labour laws took away much of the unions original mission. In Canada where we are posed to be more socially liberal, most unions in critical industries get legislated back to work before they can even strike.
Don't forget unions are a business too, and they need to constantly increase revenue and produce "value"
Things that are shitty about unionized jobs.
1. protect shit employees that should be canned
2. live and die by seniority, not merit
3. most drink the union kool aid "us vs them" make unreasonable demands and drive the company into bankruptcy or towards automation.
4. protest technological advancements that will make things efficient for the sake of keeping jobs.
Nurses union is absolutely great for the most part.
Nurses and teachers are really the only groups that “need” representation because they always get shafted even with a union
The rest of us, this concept of like “protection” is irrelevant.
If your job is so tenuous you can just be let go and not replaced, your job doesn’t exist anymore, union or not.
If your job is one that can’t be easily replaced, and you simply show up on time, even if your work is trash you’re likely not under threat of being fired.

My sister-in-law's tenants gave them a bunch of clams, which made their way to my father-in-law and he made this:
Spoiler!
I probably haven't had sauteed clams in black bean sauce in over 20 years! It was so damn good...
