I dunno.. Lunch lady was pretty epic the times I’ve had it

You kind of have to throw out the top ratings and the bottom and see where it lands. I find stuff hovering around 4.2 is typically good as the 1 stars are almost always insane customer complaints.

I was cruising google street view and came across some Esso that had a 1.2 rating on the west side. Most complaints were about the shitty car wash however there were a couple that were pretty hilarious

One was like “employ ranjimder says microwave not working, I know working! Very ignorant and rude, please fire Ranjimder, thank you!”

:lol

FYI Lunch Lady passed away on her way to soft open her Toronto restaurant

RIP

AstulzerRZD 05-26-2025 12:43 PM

when I last worked out of north van

- Maru: killer Korean food that's properly spicy
- Farina e Legna: siste rsrpot to ask for luigi
- Seaside Provisions: Octopus carpaccio or Lobster toast
- Fishworks: miso sablefish or halibut cheeks >>>

Skip Burgoo, Arms Reach Bistro, Pier 7, the gull, Mythos. All overrated shit.
If you must have brunch or greek food, Douce Diner or Anatoli

headhunt3r 05-26-2025 01:05 PM

The crappy pasta place I visited in N.Van was Roma. It's got a 4.2 on maps. I swear the meatballs was just Kirkland meatballs.

I've been to Fishworks and would agree that their food was great. Pretty sure I also had the miso sablefish.

Lots of fake reviews on google. Pay some review farm in India and boom, you've got a dozen 5-star reviews upon your grand opening.

you sure the place wasn't persian restaurant in disguise

headhunt3r 05-26-2025 03:16 PM

In hindsight, it probably was. We just quickly found this place on gmaps to feed a couple mini demons ready to throw hangry tantrums at a moment's notice.

The King is in the country.

At first, I thought it was Carney flexing, I know the effing king and I can get him to come and read my throne speech.

But then, I read that it was a subtle flex to Trump to symbolize our sovereignty (and get off the 51st state rhetoric)... which I don't quite get, how are we 'sovereign' if we kowtow to a monarchy?

We still kowtow to the British Monarchy, while the US doesn't. That's the King's recognition of us being one of his Commonwealth nations instead of merely being the US' 51st state.

At least that's how I would read it.

That's not really our relationship with the UK. The King is in town in his role as King of CANADA, not King of England. Canada is a constitutional monarchy so we have a King and we choose it to be the person who happens to be King of England b/c we are a member of the British Commonwealth but when we're referring to him we're referring to him as our head of state, not as England's.

Heads of states exist in nearly all countries. In some cases the head of state is also the head of gov't (like the US) but in most cases they are actually different (France, Japan, England, Germany etc). Even Russia separates the head of state and head of gov't (so does China) but in both the Russian and China case the head of state is who is in charge.

If we didn't have the British monarchy we'd just have a different head of state that we'd "kowtow" to unless we opted for a Presidential system (like the US) which is a pretty horrible system compared to the Parliamentary system.

Because he's technically the King of Canada as well. But the biggest difference is that we've always been under the British Monarchy since the beginning, whereas the US president wants to take us over. I'm no fan of the Monarchy but there's the devil you know...

Also, throne speech is made by the Governor General normally, not the PM.

Recall that officially, the GG is the representative of Canada's monarch. Since our actual king -- ie. Charles -- is here in Canada, he will rightfully be the person delivering the throne speech. That is to say -- it has always been his right (as Canada's king) to deliver that throne speech. It's just that when he isn't here, the GG does the dirty work on his behalf.

Hondaracer 05-26-2025 09:28 PM

The American system is superior to ours.

King Charles didn’t say jack shit when all the 51st state shit was coming out because he’s a coward that didn’t want to put the spot light back on the Uk. He’s barely a figurehead when it comes to UK politics, Canada should have done away with their ties long ago.

We don’t need a ceremonial king tip toeing around other countries threatening our sovereignty.

CivicBlues 05-26-2025 09:48 PM

Oh yeah, same system that allowed a convicted felon into power with it's so called "checks and balances"?

Also Charles is bound by tradition not to comment on political matters. It's sort of the whole thing with the British Monarchy, dontcha know?

It's been empirically proven that Constitutional Monarchies are much more stable forms of liberal democracies than Presidential Republics. Basically the only examples of the latter are France, and until recently, the US.

Hondaracer 05-26-2025 10:01 PM

We hate colonialism so much in places like Canada that we literally bow to the optiome of the definition hehe

Everything to do with the monarchy is -gross-

Manic! 05-27-2025 06:27 AM

Fck the king but the reason he is here is to show we still got backing/support from the UK/Europe.
