bcrdukes ... how are you coping with the 'generational' winter storm in the GTA?

bcrdukes 01-26-2026 07:07 AM

RIP bcrdukes

bcrdukes 01-26-2026 07:23 AM

On a more serious note, this snowfall was wild. I don't recall this much snow in one go of my years living in the GTA.

I went Downtown yesterday and while the roads were "okay" (assuming you had snow tires) you could get around. What was scary was the snow turning into ice when it lands on your windshield, immediately reducing visibility. Any way, after getting home, we shoveled as much snow as we could but the snow just kept falling. My neighbour came outside to ask why I even bothered to try. I told him that if we don't shovel now, the snow will accumulate even more overnight. He rolled his eyes at me and I saw him stuck on his drive way this morning.

Looking outside right now, pedestrians are walking on the street, and not the sidewalk. The city hasn't plowed the sidewalks and the cars driving on the road have compacted the snow on the ground, so it's a bit of free for all on the roads right now. I saw a construction worker try to do a moonwalk in the snow while drinking his McDonald's coffee and trying to grab what I can only imagine is an egg McMuffin for his breakfast.

In terms of driving around, anyone with all season tires, you immediately knew because they were stuck in a snow bank or at a full stop. I am of the opinion that you can't jump out and help these people because they pose a greater risk to society when they are back on the road. They are better left stuck where they are and helping them only rewards their decision to not buy snow tires. Also, for you EV fans, I didn't see any Teslas on the road yesterday, I saw only one or two Polestars and nothing but Toyotas (stupid Toyota!) A BMW in all-season tires was stuck in a parking lot trying to get out.

I think we're getting some more snow in a few hours so this isn't going to be fun. I'll be doing some shoveling later this afternoon once it stops. If I had to guess, the snow is above my knees right now. I'm thankful the snow here in the GTA is powdery and doesn't freeze into ice like in Vancouver. If Vancouver got this amount of snow, I think you'd be in a world of hurt.

whitev70r 01-26-2026 08:42 AM

Damn ... I lived in Toronto for about 10 yrs and had some big snowstorms but by your description, this is the mutha of them all !!

No amount of salary bonus working in TO is worth that ... c'mon back to BC and be bcrdukes again !!

bcrdukes 01-26-2026 08:45 AM

I'm living in squander and poverty. I can't afford to come back to BC.

I'll post a picture in a bit of the mountain of snow outside my visitor's parking in a bit. I only just managed to clear the snow off the Corolla. It's wild.

68style 01-26-2026 09:05 AM

You Toronto people are softer than butter I left out yesterday

let's be honest. 3cm of snow in Vancouver is a world of hurt. If we got that much snow in Vancouver, Vancouver would be done and declaring an state of emergency. lol.

Badhobz 01-26-2026 09:15 AM

3CM in richmond and you'll have 3 million dollars worth of car damages in 30 minutes.

6793026 01-26-2026 09:24 AM

We left for dinner at 5 PM after using the blower.
Came home with 30 cms and then plowed again

Roads were pounded down with snow. It's not the law, but you do need winter tires.

There were no asians on the road as everyone were at home.

I had hot pot and it was great when others were shoveling snow.

Sounds like Mayor Chow needs to call in the Army again

noclue 01-26-2026 10:02 AM

Why people put up with snow elsewhere in Canada and not just move to the lower mainland BC and buy a single detached house with two Germany luxury cars? :derp:

In my case, it's Mayor Carolyn Parrish. But yes, Mayor Chow needs to call in the Canadian Forces.

I agree this is the general demographic of RS which makes me an outlier. I can't speak for 6793026 and RabidRat. They are straight up ballin' and out of my league.

bcrdukes 01-26-2026 10:41 AM

So, I'm back from shoveling my driveway, clearing the snow on the Corolla and clearing our walkway/stairs.

This was yesterday's shoveling efforts.
