The new Charger makes zero sense as a product - it's nothing more than a bunch of bros who want to beat their chest. And it gets stupider with the return of the Hemi. Everything they do right now just reeks of desperation and a denial of reality.
| It's a huge PR issue but financially it's not devastating. Their mixed powertrain platform lets them pivot away from EVs with far less cost than Mercedes would face cancelling EQ. It's also shared with the Wagoneer S and other cars. Quote:

| Americans will keep buying big, comfortable, good-sounding cars because long-distance driving is a fact of life. Instead of 45 minutes to Cypress, Seattle > Crystal Mountain is 3 hours, SF to Tahoe is 5. Quote:
Side note: Did anyone else catch Ford cancelling the Escape and Corsair and replacing it with an EV pickup? That's Ford's second best selling product that is getting axed! I also question their sanity as a company.
| Ford’s modular EV platform (like GM’s which is selling incredibly well) lets them quickly adjust their lineup to match market shifts, especially from Chinese.
Cancelling escape is not an issue because it sells mostly to rental fleets, with real consumer demand going to the Bronco Sport. Escape hybrid/PHEV sales are also weak.
The new EV pickup will be Maverick-sized, a segment with huge demand: Maverick still has waitlists four years in and unlike Bezos-funded attempts, Ford can actually deliver. Quote:
full size wagoneer is a failure and delegated to hertz/avis/enterprise
| The product is ugly but the range-extended EV powertrain they're launching with the Wagoner is a major win: it's a full product cycle and 3-5 years ahead of GM, Toyota, and Ford.
Jeeps edge here is their engines aren't blowing up like GMs and it's not horribly out of date like the Expedition/Navigator. |
