One man is still in hospital after getting shot Friday night in Surrey.

Mounties say it happened near 130th Street and 108th Avenue and the victim is known to police.

A short time later shots were reported near 130th Street and 68th Avenue.

No one was found injured but police did arrest 2 men who are being questioned by the serious crime unit.

Neither are known to police.

Mounties say the shooting appears to be targeted.

MAPLE RIDGE (NEWS1130) - Mounties in Maple Ridge confirm a crash that happened yesterday afternoon is being treated as a suspicious death.

Police got a call around 1:30 about a car lying upside-down in a ditch near 132nd Avenue and 216th Street.
Neighbours reported hearing shots fired just before, and when police pulled out the vehicle, they found it filled with bullet holes.
The body of a man was also recovered and police plan to release more information later today.
Investigators say it's still to early to link this case to drugs or gangs.

This murder on the surface appears strange. A 30-year-old Abbotsford man not known to police ends up dead - likely shot - in a rural Maple Ridge setting. He was driving someone else's vehicle - the owner was a woman. People heard what they thought were shots overnight Wednesday and police are checking those reports out to see if they are linked to the death.

But the man's body was not discovered until 1:30 p.m. Thursday when someone noticed the white SUV in the ditch upside down. It looked like a tragic accident, but ended up being another murder - after a few days of calm.

It is a little thin on details, but hopefully we will get more through the weekend. Regardless, there is yet another family no doubt reeling after getting the news of the murder.

You make some good points. And really, they allude to some other issues.

The area in Maple Ridge where the driver was shot is known to have some large grow ops in the area.

Most of the valuable possessions such as houses and vehicles are under a wife or girlfriend's name. I read this somewhere recently, but can't recall the rationale for doing so.

As for the lack of details and the odd "discovery" time. If I recall correctly, Harper was in town that day to talk about the new gang-crime legislation. Having a shooting discovered that morning would sort of fly in the face of the federal government's attempt to discourage such activity.

http://www.vancouversun.com/news/Gangsters+charged+with+attempted+murder+Bacon+brot hers+associate/1346091/story.html

VANCOUVER — Three people linked to the United Nations gang, including a senior ranking member, have been charged with attempted murder in connection with a targeted hit on a Bacon brothers’ associate outside a Surrey strip club Feb. 16.

The weekend arrests and charges are the first related to a series of brazen 2009 shootings that have left a trail of dead and wounded across Metro Vancouver.

Longtime UN gang member Barzan Tilli-Choli, 27, and associates Nicola Cottrell and Aram Ali, made their first appearance behind bulletproof plexiglass in Surrey Provincial Court’s room 107 Monday morning.

Extra security was in place for the appearance, including metal detectors at the front door, and additional police in the courthouse.

The trio each face two counts of attempting to kill Fraser Sutherland, 40, and Tyler Willock, 27, with a firearm.

Tilli-Choli was charged in Vancouver in 2007, along with UN gangmates Thanh Kiet Kha and Koth Gott Chanthapathet, with assault and uttering threats, but was convicted only of a breach. Two other threatening charges laid in Vancouver in 2006 were dismissed.

Cottrell has no other charges in B.C. according to a provincial court database search.

Ali, 23, was already facing a series of drug trafficking and stolen property charges in North Vancouver when arrested in the attempted murder.

A fourth accused, Sarah Trebble, was also charged over the weekend with being in the vehicle knowing there was a firearm inside.

Trebble is the former live-in girlfriend of full-patch White Rock Hells Angel Larry Amero, The Vancouver Sun has learned. She and Amero share a car lease for a 2007 Cadillac Escalade, according to personal property records.

Prosecutor Ralph Keefer refused to comment on the case outside court Monday.

But The Sun has learned that Willock is a close associate of Jonathan, Jarrod and Jamie Bacon and the Red Scorpion gang, and was the intended target of the shooting outside T-Barz strip club on East Whalley Ring Road and 104th Ave. But Sutherland, who was driving his leased Range Rover with Willock in the back, is the one who ended up wounded when the bullets started flying.

Surrey RCMP said at the time that Sutherland’s vehicle left the scene and headed for Langley but couldn’t make it home. An ambulance attended to him at 216th and Fraser Highway about 12:40 a.m. Feb. 16.

Tilli-Choli has assumed a greater role in the UN gang since leader Clay Roueche was arrested in the U.S. last May on cocaine and marijuana smuggling charges. Roueche remains behind bars in Seattle awaiting trial in April.

Tilli-Choli is also close to Mike and Peter Adiwal, twins convicted of a gangland kidnapping who have played leading roles in the Independent Soldiers.

Tilli-Choli, Cottrell and Ali were still wearing their street clothes when they were led into court Monday and placed in separate prisoners’ boxes.

A tattoo reading “Barzan” with a Chinese character underneath could be seen on the back of Cottrell’s neck.

A young woman in the public gallery began weeping uncontrollably when she saw Ali, gesturing to him through the glass. A sheriff had to calm her down as tears streamed down her face.

All three were remanded in custody until March 10, when they will have a bail hearing.

Trebble was released from custody on the weekend with a promise to appear later in March. She has no previous charges nor convictions, according to court files.

Willock, the intended victim of the Feb. 16 hit, is also facing five gun charges laid in December after an incident last July in Langley. The counts include: careless use of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm and ammunition and occupying a vehicle in which there is a firearm. He was released on $1,000 bail on Dec. 18.

The feud between the Bacons, their Red Scorpion associates and the rival UN gang has been brewing for almost a year. Police have issued four public warnings —including two last month — telling the public to steer clear of the Bacons or risk getting caught in the crossfire.

UN member Duane Harvey Meyer was shot to death on the steps of an Abbotsford home May 8, 2008. Hours later, a young stereo installer named Jonathan Alex Barber was gunned down by mistake as he drove one of the Bacons’ vehicles along Kingsway in Burnaby. Police said the suspects are from the UN and that Barber was completely innocent.

UN associate Mike Gordon was murdered in Chilliwack in August and Bacon associate Dennis Karbovanec was shot twice Dec. 31, 2008, but recovered. Jamie Bacon was shot at Jan. 20, but was uninjured.

Former Red Scorpion associate Raphael Baldini was gunned down outside a Surrey mall Feb. 3, three days before close Bacon associate Kevin LeClair was killed Dec. 6 in a hail of automatic gunfire outside a Langley mall.

Baldini associate Nikki Alemy, whose husband Koshan has UN gang links, was shot to death in front of her four-year-old Feb. 16 — hours after the T-Barz shooting.

The rash of shootings, many in daylight hours in crowded public places, have prompted a flurry of political reaction, including proposed changes to the Criminal Code to toughen laws against gangs and other organized crime groups.

Perhaps, but whats the alternative? Just let them kill whoever they want whenever they want with no consequences? The system isn't perfect, the cops are far from perfect but doing something is better then nothing.

Fatal shooting in Burnaby

Two people have been hit by gunfire in an apartment building on Madison Avenue in North Burnaby.
Police can confirm one woman is dead and a man is injured.
These would be the 20th and 21st shootings since the begining of the year.
Meanwhile Surrey RCMP responded to several reports of shots fired on 68th Avenue this evening. So far they've found nothing.

Gangsters sure are trembling in fear over the new "get tough" laws...

Jason has a point with his strategy...

There was a time when so many drugs IE: Marijuana, Amphetamines, Opiates, LSD, were all legal, and during that time there were never gang wars like we have today.

Look no further than the prohibition of alcohol in the 20's and 30's. It led to major organized crime (Does the name Al Capone ring a bell). When they realized they couldn't beat the crime, they repealed the law.

Guess what happened after they repealed the law? Black Market profits went down the tube, the gangs lost their source of income.

5 shootings lastnight. 3 in surrey, 1 in burnaby and 1 in vancouver. 2 people dead and 3 injured

Two people are dead and three others are injured following five separate shootings throughout Metro Vancouver overnight.

It all began about 8:00 p.m. in Burnaby when RCMP responded to a call of shots fired in an apartment on Madison Ave, near Dawson St. When they arrived RCMP found a man and woman suffering from gunshot wounds. They were taken to hospital where the woman was pronounced dead, the man's injuries are not known.

A short time later RCMP in Surrey received a shots fired call in the area of 68th Ave and 130th St. A man showed up at a local hospital with gunshot wounds not long after. Mounties are unsure how he made it to hospital. Also in Surrey, RCMP are investigating another shooting that sent a man well known to them to hospital with unknown injuries. It's believed he was shot in the area of 180th Ave. and 32nd Ave. And a known 'crack shack' was shot at early this morning near 155th Ave. and 110th St.. No one was injured there.

Across the river, Vancouver police are investigating a deadly shooting that took place around 10:00 p.m. on East 3rd Ave. near Kaslo St. Police say after receiving a number of calls of shots fired, they found a man in his 20s slumped over the steering wheel of a car dead from gunshot wounds.

The names of the victims have not yet been released.

Fuck I wanted to make an effort to not post on RS today :p

1. Let them kill each other and sooner or later they'll run out of bodies to shoot.

2. kill all these gangsters and scare the high school wangsters into thinking twice before joining a gang.

Let us examine both of these statements:

1. The highly profitable drug trade allows the people in control to have flashy cars, tons of money, and the hottest bitches. Also, respect/fear at night clubs and other venues. Kill 1, and 2 more take their place.

2. Do you honestly think that people fear death and gunplay more than they are drawn to money, cars, women, and power?

Legalization is the only possible way to solve this, until then, drugs will continue to be traded and bullets will fly.

Jason00S2000
03-04-2009, 01:12 PM
I think people fear having an average girlfriend, no money, living at home, and being a nobody more than they fear the consequences of being involved in the quick-cash drug trade that leads to money, women, and power.

Exactly!

The majority of you guys are so in the dark. I don't mean to be insulting or condescending, ok, maybe a bit, but Billboa brings up something I wanted to mention earlier.

Why does the US Army talk about "$40,000 for college, enlist now!" and such?

Well, nobody just joins the Army and signs themself away to rough living for nothing, come on! Especially when being in the Army means more than likely the enemies of the US want you dead.

Think of gangs like a military unit, but instead of defending the constitution, they are defending their revenue sources. ( the drug trade )

You join the army and:

1. You gain new friends
2. You gain an honorable title (in some circles)
3. You make little money
4. You live a rough and non-luxurious lifestyle for awhile
5. Long time away from friends and family
6. You still need some qualifications to join and can be turned down for many reasons
7. You expect danger

Compare that to joining a gang:

1. You gain new friends
2. You can gain honorable titles (in some circles, especially with sleazy, yet hot, bitches)
3. You can make a LOT of money
4. You can live a luxurious lifestyle
5. No time away from friends and family
6. Qualifications would be knowing the right contacts and having the proper mentality, or being able to obey without question and be ruthless in your execution of your duties
7. You expect danger

As far as risk VS reward, doesn't it seem like being a gangster would be safer and pay better than a soldier in Iraq?

Now, it seems to me that grunts in Iraq getting shot at and roadside bombed daily for 4+ years have a raw deal compared to the average gangster in Vancouver. I mean, sure, the gangster has to deal with the occasional bullet flying at them, but as a soldier in Iraq you had to deal with bullets, bombs, suicide attacks, no family around, very little relaxation, and many other hardships.

Being a gangster would be FAR EASIER in comparison!

Suicides are at an all time high in the US Army at the moment, I would be willing to bet almost no gangsters kill themselves. They are probably living pretty damn good in B.C.

In fact, being a gangster is probably easier and pays better than being a cop, and judging by the few arrests being made, probably the law isn't even much of a concern. The Bacon brothers are famous, everyone knows they are gangsters and they're still out of jail!

I'm sure it's probably pretty funny to some gang members just how impotent the police really are. They can take down an angry stapler-armed polak at an airport, but if you have an up-armored BMW, caught with guns and well known ties to gangs you're walking free and sitting pretty!

Guys, at least they're targeted. I wouldn't mind a extra week of 4 shootings per day to kill all these gangsters and scare the high school wangsters into thinking twice before joining a gang.

Let them kill each other and sooner or later they'll run out of bodies to shoot.

And what if a civilian walks by and gets hit? Why not we have 0 gangs and 0 shootings?

update

There's been yet another shooting in Metro Vancouver, which makes it the sixth in two days. Surrey RCMP say two people were shot at a gas station on 122nd and 72A, near Strawberry Hill Mall.
SURREY (NEWS1130) -

Inspector Dave Walsh says the two victims, both men, are in hospital with non life threatening injuries.

"I believe one was in a lower extremity and the other one was shot in the head but again, not serious."

One was out pumping gas into the car, and the other was in the vehicle when they were shot. Walsh has little information on the suspects, and says witnesses report seeing a man run into a beige get-away car.

He says it's too soon to know if this is a gang shooting because they haven't even identified the victims yet but he says it does look targeted.

One customer was sitting inside the Tim Hortons when a man came screaming in, claiming he'd been shot.

"The guy came running and he was screaming ... he came screaming, he said 'somebody shot me', that's what had happened. .. he was a black guy, he was as young guy, seems to be 20's,30's or something like that...he was shot in the leg, the right leg."

and Dennis was picked up today at this apt across the street. I really wonder how long they will be locked up for.

Not long.

PORT COQUITLAM (NEWS1130) - Reputed gang leader Jonathan Bacon and associate Dennis Karbovanec have been released on bail at Port Coquitlam Provincial Court after being arrested last night on fraud and possession of stolen property charges. The judge released the two on bail, with extensive conditions, including a curfew, frequent reports to police, and they are not allowed to change addresses without notifying police. They'll be back in court April 8th.

Security was tight today for their appearance on a dozen charges. Earlier this year, Port Moody Police mentioned Bacon and Karbovanec in a warning about escalating gang violence, saying anyone doing business with them were putting their personal safety at risk.

Bacon survived an attempt on his life outside his parents' home in Abbotsford in 2006 while Karbovanec was wounded by gunfire in December.

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Metro Vancouver may lead the country in gun violence, but our region has nothing on places like L.A. and Chicago.

So far there have been around 30 shootings in Metro Vancouver and Abbotsford this year, 12 of them deadly by the Vancouver Sun's count.

Compare that with Toronto, with roughly double our region's population. It's recorded 34 shootings in 2009, eight of those fatal. Calgary has seven shootings in 2009, four of those deadly.

On the other hand Los Angeles has had 423 shootings, with 54 of those turning out to be homicides. Even when you factor in that L.A. has nearly five times the population of the Lower Mainland -- its murder rate easily dwarfs ours.

COQUITLAM (NEWS1130) - No one was hurt in Metro Vancouver's latest shooting.

It happened around 11 p.m. near Farrow Street and Smith Avenue in Coquitlam.

Several shots were fired at a home.

RCMP Sergeant Alex Borden says the shooting covered a lot of ground.

"To try and narrow it down to a specific area, we had reports from all the way from Clarke Road to North Road to Farrow Street. But this was an incident that took place over a bit of area."

Police also found several shell casings on the ground.

The shooting was not a targeted hit.

However, Mounties say it's too early in the investigation to confirm whether the home is known to them or what the motive might have been.

Turns out the fight in Coquitlam was a fight between two groups...

ANCOUVER (CBC) - Police in Coquitlam, B.C., were investigating Saturday after gunshots were fired in a residential neighbourhood Friday night.

It appears two groups of males got into an argument in the 700 block of Farrow St. near Clarke Rd. in Coquitlam, the RCMP said in a news release.

One of the men grabbed a handgun from a car and fired between eight and 10 shots at the other group of men.

No one was injured, but a nearby resident told police a bullet came through his window and hit a wall inside his house.

The shooter left the scene with two other men in a dark SUV.

The RCMP has not identified any suspects. It is not known whether the incident was gang-related.

Since the start of the year, at least 11 people have been killed in what police have called targeted shootings linked to a gang war over the illegal drug trade.

This is the 10th shooting in Metro Vancouver this month.

RCMP say it's incredible that no one was injured or killed.

And after the latest shooting around 11:30 Friday night in Coquitlam, Corporal Peter Thiessen says it's sad to see how some young people are dealing with their problems now, "Teenagers, 20 something young men involved in some type of dispute, and they simply pull a handgun that they have readily available, in their vehicle. It's pretty concerning. They don't seem to care one way or another."

Thiessen says an argument of some kind broke out at a McDonald's restaurant parking lot on Clark Road.

One of the men involved got a handgun from his vehicle and fired off anywhere from 8 to 12 shots at another group of men.

One of those shots happened to go right through the window of a nearby home and lodge into the wall of the home.

Thiessen says it's amazing no one was hurt or killed.

It's not clear if this is gang related, and there is no suspect description at this time.

Anyways, another shooting last night on Kingsway

"VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Vancouver Police have Kingsway Ave. closed between Earles St. and Slocan St. while they investigate Metro Vancouver’s latest shooting.

The shots fired call came in just before 2:30 a.m. Police say a man in his thirties was hit and is now in hospital with unknown injuries.

Witnesses say they saw a Ranger Rover take off eastbound on Kingsway.

It’s not known if this shooting has any connection to the rash of shootings that have hit Metro Vancouver since mid-January."

My girlfriend and I had a good suspicion this is what happened because we observed a stream of police cars flying up Kingsway at Knight Street around 2:30am.

About 10 minutes later, an ambulance rushed the other way with an undercover police escort.

Are these shootings costing a lot of tax money? ie.) Extra police work and even OT and ambulatory services?

HAHAHAHAHA :haha:

Whatever street cred this guy has as a tough guy just went out the window. 8 - 12 shots and not 1 hit? Does he close his eyes before he shoots?

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - In the West End of Vancouver, police were called to a convenience store on Denman near Nelson around 1:00 this morning after a man walked in bleeding heavily from a large cut behind his ear.

The clerk told the victim, believed to be in his 20's, to get out and called police. When they arrived the victim was gone and police were unable to locate him.

I guess the guy didn't pay up so the gangsters wanted to collect his ear but finish the job.

Vancouver Police responding to reports 2 men have been found dead in an apartment near Knight Street & East 41st Avenue.
