VANCOUVER — Another man is dead in a targeted shooting outside a corner store at 70th and Marine in Vancouver.

The man appears to have gotten out of a silver BMW to go into the store and was shot when exiting. His body lay beside the car at 11 p.m. Monday as police cordoned off several blocks.

Shots rang out about 9:40 p.m., neighbours said.

There were two batches of gunfire, up to 12 shots in all.

At least 12 police vehicles were on the scene. Ambulances responded, but left once they saw the victim was dead.

The body lay near a service bay of a gas station next to the store. The BMW — an older model convertible — was still sitting with its engine running two hours after the shooting. Cheryl Dycke heard the shots and a woman screaming.

Dycke had just been leaving for the store from her apartment across the street.

“It is quite shocking. I thought it was a robbery,” said Dycke.

She said more people could have been hit as the store is very busy.

“I thought it was fireworks at first,” she said. "I hope they catch the guy."

Police canvassed low-rise apartment buildings across from murder scene looking for witnesses.

Many lined 70th Ave. watching the action unfold.

Traffic was being diverted off the busy thoroughfares through neighbourhoods.

The shooting comes after the brutal slaying Friday of Wendy Ladner Beaudry near Pacific Spirit Park and the shooting death Saturday night of a 24-year-old Vancouver man.

The victim in that homicide was David Phong Quoi Banh, who was found slumped over in the driver’s seat of a white SUV in an east Vancouver restaurant parking lot on Saturday night.

"It appears to have been a targeted shooting, but it’s too early in the investigation to confirm that," police said in a statement earlier Monday. "Mr. Banh was not known to police."

Monday night's death marks Vancouver's 12th homicide of 2009 and the region's 31th.

CKNW Breaking News...

Vancouver Police are now confirming what CKNW reported earlier.
One man has been shot dead while sitting in a SUV in the Boston Pizza parking lot at Grandview Hwy near Rupert St.
Cst. Jana McGuinness says it looks like a targetted incident but it's still too early to make any gang links.
Police are asking for witnesses to come forward.

this whole shootings thread stems from this gang war....with murder cases backed up...you have other gangs taking advantage and shooting each other up.

Shooting in Richmond
RCMP in Richmond aren't saying much about a shooting this morning. It happened in an industrial area of Shell Road near Bridgeport where it's believed someone in a Mercedes was shot.

Police have taped off this massive industrial office complex. The back buildings are still under construction. Police are not confirming the shooting. But there is a large police presence and two ambulances were called to the scene.

A murder investigation is underway at a Richmond industrial park where a woman's body was found this morning.
The parking lot in a Shell Road industrial park is empty except for two vehicles.
One is a black pickup truck with its doors open and the other a dark, gray sedan with a woman's body inside.
Investigators have been here since 4:30 this morning and they are videotaping both vehicles, inside and out.
IHIT's Corporal Dale Carr is expected to be here shortly to give us more details such as whether the woman was shot.

METRO VANCOUVER - The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team says one person has died in an incident at an industrial complex near Bridgeport Road and Shell Road in Richmond.

A woman phoned in at around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday morning after she saw a woman's body in a car parked in the Shell Road industrial area.

Global BC and other media are reporting that the incident was a possible shooting, but police would not confirm this morning how the woman died.

RICHMOND (NEWS1130) - RCMP now say a woman killed early this morning in Richmond likely died of gunshot wounds. Corporal Dale Carr says paramedics told police she had a "gunshot injury" but an autopsy will be needed to confirm the cause of death.

He also says the Asian woman in her 30's was well known to Richmond RCMP for criminal activity.

Homicide investigators were called to an industrial complex in the 2500 block of Shell Road in north Richmond at about 4:30 this morning, after a woman's body was found inside a car.

A person driving a pickup near the homicide scene is being questioned by police but Carr says it's too early to describe the person as a suspect.

Police also say it's still too early to link the incident to a series of shootings across Metro Vancouver that has claimed 20 lives since mid-January.

a good shooting post for a change

A group of would-be jewelry thieves got more bang than bling Tuesday when the jewelry store owner fired a bullet at them and scared them off.
The owner of Atson, a jewelry and gold shop at 290 Robson on the corner of Hamilton in Vancouver, was accosted by thieves shortly after opening his store at about 10:20 a.m.
Police spokesman Const. Lindsey Houghton said three suspects tried to rob the store and were scared off by an employee or owner who fired at least one shot at the assailants.
"At this point we believe there was possibly one shot fired. We can't confirm if there were any more than that," Houghton said, adding there were no reports of any injuries from the gunfire.
The store window glass was smashed in and investigators could be seen surveying the store's interior well into the afternoon yesterday behind yellow police tape.
Houghton could not say how much merchandise was taken.
The store, incorporated in 1995, is registered to Alice Yu, president, and May Yuk-Ming Ng, secretary.
The aborted robbery is the latest brazen daylight jewelry heist to hit Vancouver in recent weeks.
On April 1, three thieves struck Kitsilano's Costen Catbalue Goldsmith and Design in the 1800-block West 1st Ave. just before 11 a.m., one of them brandishing bear spray.
The thieves smashed display cases with a hammer and stole an undisclosed quantity of jewelry before escaping into a waiting vehicle, driven by a fourth suspect.
The car was abandoned a few blocks away. No one was injured.
Police yesterday said it was too early to tell if the two cases were linked or if there was some sort of jewelry-theft ring operating in the city.
In January, a chronic offender was arrested and charged with a heist at the Saatchi and Saatchi jewellers, also on Robson.
The store was cleaned out after someone cut a hole in the ceiling of a bathroom in a hall shared by the store and a business next door.
Martin James Weigelt, 42, was charged with stealing an estimated $500,000 worth of jew-elry.
"There could be any number of reasons why jewelry stores are having higher number of incidents," Houghton said.
"It could be the price of gold or the price of diamonds or other stones, or the economic downturn."

ASG111

^ on that note, i have always wondered why, for robberies either for jewellery or bank, they always state "they stole an UNDISCLOSED AMOUNT".

Are they not allowed to disclose it or is there some policy regarding the store's privacy or something?

I probably wouldn't know of Dai Huen Jai either if not for my brother apparently being affiliated with them back in the day...

The Vancouver Police Department advises that the intersections of W 48th and Granville Street through to W 50th will be closed until further notice due to a serious collision involving a pedestrian.

The Collision Investigation Unit are investigating and the VPD expects the intersection to be closed for a significant period.

Translink buses will be making route changes accordingly and drivers are advised to head up Oak as an alternate route to Granville until the road is cleared.

There is no news on the condition of the pedestrian at this time.

Massive concentration of cops near 46th area. Tried to drive down the alleys to see whats going on... but every street that connects with Granville between those blocks are Police tapped Off. Grabbed 2 pics with my camera phone once again.. will upload when phone is done charging...

Must be a shooting.. no other reason to block off 10 streets of granville.....

i will FAIL myself.

People in the area say they heard as many as a dozen shots just after 10 p.m., then the area was crawling with police.

Witnesses say two vehicles were seen speeding away from the area. There are also reports that one victim was taken away by ambulance, but police have not confirmed the details.

Don't usually post in here, but meh, wanted to give my two bits....
First off, this guy was/is a fudoo. Ur EI buddy's can fill y'all in on what that means.
Friggin tool, knew him from around the hood, back in the day. He was always proud to let everyone know how "gangster" he is. His bro, a bit quieter/low key, but same gene pool (actually same gene).

Second, whoever blasted him, did not use the right gun. It had to be a low velocity gun like a .22. Basically anything else, ie. a 9mm would have gauranteed to splatter open his head. The gun/bullets used had to be similar to those used for rabbit/quail hunting as they use lower velocity, smaller bullets. Anything bigger/badder would result in a cloud of feathers and a vaporized bird, and no "trophy". Had to be a young/rookie hitman/woman who was not experienced in this regard. NO WAY he would've been able to mutter anything to the paramedics if it was a 9mm or similar. Regardless, still friggen lucky, cuz that is some shit.
And, i seen him driving earlier in the day, he gave me a good stare down too, like "hey ur familiar, but where do i know u from", kinda look.

Maybe he and Bal can race their electric wheelchairs around the rehab centre together...

Cheers,
j

.22 is weaksauce, hell even my 9mm is underpowered.

It's got less to do with bullet diameter, and more to do with velocity. Many current assault rifles use variations on the .22, and they're plenty lethal.

Shitty to see the violence picking up again. Is this a bunch of second stringers trying to fill gaps made earlier in the year now?

IHIT investigates fatal shooting in Maple Ridge

Victim drove himself to Ridge Meadows Hospital last night

News1130 Staff MAPLE RIDGE (NEWS1130) 2009-05-29 07:20 Photo: News1130MAPLE RIDGE (NEWS1130) - The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team is now on the case of the latest shooting in the lower mainland - this one in Maple Ridge.

A 29-year old man died at about 3:00 this morning after driving himself to the hospital. A witness tells News1130 he saw a black SUV speed into the hospital parking lot. A man got out yelling that he had been shot, and then collapsed.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team doesn't know the location of the shooting.

The Ridge Meadows RCMP confirm the victim was known to them, but won't say how.

Witness saw shooting victim begging for help
Man apparently received no immediate help

MAPLE RIDGE (NEWS1130) - The 29-year-old man shot dead in Maple Ridge last night was actually stumbling around inside the Ridge Meadows Hospital before staff came to help him. News1130 spoke with a witness who saw the man with a bullet wound to the chest.

Jay says the victim was bleeding badly, yelling "Hello," and for help several times in the emergency room hallway.

He says he saw this just after 8 p.m. when he was getting medical help for his daughter. "Once help finally arrived like two minutes later after he was calling for help then he just collapsed. Kind of like resting on his bum. I didn't know what to do, I had my daughter in my hands and I saw him, he was staring right at me, he was like "Hello, help me... I have a shot to my chest.'"

He says his other daughter who is 8-years-old was shaking when she saw the victim and now he doesn't know how to explain the situation.

Jay says he saw bullet holes in a black Escalade. It's believed the victim drove himself there.

Homicide Investigators say the man is known to police but they don't know exactly where the shooting happened. His name has not been released yet although the family has been notified.

Two taken into custody after Richmond shooting
Updated: Wed Jun. 17 2009 10:11:12

Darcy Wintonyk, ctvbc.ca

An area of Granville Avenue in Richmond, B.C., remains behind police tape Wednesday morning after an overnight shooting.

Police were called to the St. Alban's Shopping Centre in the 8300-block of Granville Ave. around 2:00 a.m. for reports of shots fired.

They arrived to find a man in his early 60's standing outside the 7-Eleven next door suffering a gunshot wound to his leg.

Cst. Jennifer Pound of the Burnaby RCMP says it's not known if the man walked there, or was dropped off. He is in stable condition in hospital and is expected to recover.

Pound believes the victim was involved in some kind of altercation with a group of men.

"Police are currently investigating the details of the altercation and the events following, but at this point it does not appear to be gang-related," Pound said.

Two men were taken into custody after the shooting.

Pound says these men may not be suspects but "may be able to shed some light into the investigation."

Police are focusing their investigation on a white Mercedes sedan abandoned in front of the Wing Kee Restraurant.

Five evidence markers have been placed around the vehicle, and police teams with tracking dogs walked around the scene looking for evidence early Wednesday.

Granville Ave. between Cooney and No. 3 has been closed to traffic.

MAPLE RIDGE (NEWS1130) - Crown Counsel has approved a murder charge in connection with the May 29th shooting death of a man who drove himself to the Ridge Meadows hospital.

Steve Nagra was suffering from a gunshot wound when he showed up at hospital. He was stabilized by staff, but died the next morning.

Integrated Homicide Investigators say on Friday they arrested 28-year old Shawn Bains of Maple Ridge in connection with the murder. Bains will make a court appearance today in Port Coquitlam on one count of second degree murder.

Police say he is known to them for his continued association to the organized crime community.

METRO VANCOUVER — The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team is investigating the shooting death Monday night of a man at A Canadian Auto Body and Paint in Surrey.

Surrey RCMP discovered the man after they were called to the shop, at 7680 134th St., just before 11:30 p.m. on a complaint of shots fired. The shop had been the scene of a gathering that evening, Sgt. Roger Morrow said.

The man had not been identified yet, and Morrow said Tuesday it wasn’t clear if the man was known to police or if the shooting was gang-related.

Police said the driver of a white Mercedes, which was seen leaving the area and was connected with the gathering at the shop, has been in contact with police and was speaking with investigators.

An examination of the crime scene was underway.

Anyone with information is asked to call IHIT at 1-877-551-IHIT or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

That's what the Province is saying....so fucked up. RIP to the victim.

The family of the man shot dead at a Surrey autobody shop late Monday is baffled why anyone would want him dead.

Family members described Mandeep “Mani” Thind, 24, as a happily-married family man and a hard worker who never took a day off.

He worked for a driving company and had no ties to criminal activity, his older sister Pritpal Deol said Tuesday.

Deol said she cannot imagine anyone who would want to hurt her brother.

“He’s a very nice guy, he never fights with anybody,” she said, her voice in a whisper. “He is very friendly.”

Thind was found dead late Monday by Surrey RCMP after they responded to a call at Canadian Auto Body Shop & Paint Ltd. at 134th Street and 76th Avenue.

He was reportedly shot in the face. No arrests had been made as of Tuesday night.

Deol said her family was still in shock as they waited for police to provide details about Thind’s death.

RCMP could not say if the shooting was linked to gang activity.

A family friend said he understood Thind had gone to the autobody shop to buy car insurance.

There was a party at the shop celebrating the birthday of the owner’s nephew, said the friend, who asked not to be identified.

“[A] few other boys join them there,” he said, speaking through an interpreter.

“One of the boys brought over a gun and started shooting to celebrate the occasion. Gun was emptied and a bullet in the chamber fired and killed the victim.”

The friend said Thind was from a good family and didn’t drink or do drugs when he lived in his rented basement suite several years ago.

He believes the shooting was accidental. Area business owners said a barbeque was held at the body shop Monday night.

Kankilal Patel said that when he left his business next door to the body shop, at around 9 p.m. Monday, he saw 10 or 12 people drinking and eating in the garage.

This type of gathering is not unusual, he said.

Each summer there are usually several low-key barbeques at the autobody shop.

Police are asking those who attended the Monday night barbeque to come forward.

Jeetu Patel, Kankilal’s son, said that in past years he sometimes saw drug dealers hanging around the shop.

“I did complain to RCMP and they did come and do some investigation, but never proceeded any further,” he said.

The Patels said they have never had any problems with the people who work at the shop.

“They are good people, to my understanding,” Jeetu said.

He said the shop is owned by a man named Bobby and run by a man named Pushkinder.

Deol said her brother did not frequent the body shop, and probably only went there Monday night for the barbeque.

She said he must have been in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The shop’s owner and his nephew returned to the business Tuesday to speak to investigators.

The owner’s Mercedes was seized by police for forensic testing.

Earlier media reports said a white Mercedes was seen fleeing the area shortly after the shooting.

On an online memorial, Thind’s friends pleaded for information last night. “R.I.P Mani. You were an amazing guy who always had a smile on your face,” wrote Robyn Folster. “. . . I can't believe this has happened to you. I saw you not to long ago and you were your happy self. Mani, you were a great friend and I will miss you so very much.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team at 1-877-551-IHIT or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - A woman is recovering after being shot several times in East Vancouver. It happened around 5:30 a.m. police responded to calls of shots fired outside a home at Wellington and East 29th Avenue.

The 49-year-old woman was found on the back patio. She's in stable condition in hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

One man News1130 spoke with lives with his two children two doors down from the shooting, he says he doesn't know the people in the house and says he's shocked it happened in his neighbourhood. "It's usually quiet around here so it's pretty sad. I hope she's okay."

He says he didn't hear anything and was surprised when he walked out his house and was faced with a number of reporters. Police say the shooting is not randon and the victim is not known to them but was living at the home. The suspect is still on the loose. A number of people who were in the house at the time of the shooting are being interviewed by police.

There was also a report of gunfire at Cambie and 33rd early Friday morning, but officers only recovered shell casings.

METRO VANCOUVER — Police want the public’s help in solving the targeted murder of a Lower Mainland man found in a burned-out car in Burnaby last week.

But the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team is not planning on telling the public who the victim is — at the request of the 25-year-old’s family.

Sgt. Peter Thiessen said the victim, who he identified as Caucasian, was known to police, but he would not say how.

“To some degree he is known to police at some level. That’s pretty vague, I know. But that’s as far as I can go,” he said Monday.

Asked how the public can help without the victim’s name being released, Thiessen said: “I guess they could call us if they feel they know who the victim is and through some discussions with us, we would know whether they were talking about the same person or not.”

He said the issue of withholding the name was left to the family.

“We are respecting their wishes. This is not our choice,” Thiessen said. “At this point, we are supporting them as best we can.”

The mystery victim was found in a charred vehicle outside an elementary school in the 5600 block of Clinton Avenue about 4 a.m. last Thursday.

The dead man was wearing a thin gold chain around his neck.

Thiessen said public assistance and dental records led to the man being identified by investigators.

Neighbours told reporters last week that they were awakened by an explosion just before 4 a.m. Some claimed to have heard gunshots.

The 25-year-old man found murdered in a burned-out car in Burnaby last week has been identified by police as John William Hanna.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) made the unusual and controversial decision to not initially release the identity of the victim.

However, the Richmond News confirmed from sources the victim was John Hanna, son of Bill Hanna, who owns Hanna Collision in Richmond.

read this yesterday but revscene wasnt loading for me

A week before Babak Najafi Chaghabouri allegedly kidnapped and killed Vancouver resident Ronak Wagad, the Immigration and Refugee Board gave him one last chance to stay in Canada despite a series of convictions.

Chaghabouri convinced IRB member Renee Miller last Feb. 16 that he was turning his life around even though he had been ordered out of Canada in 2008 because of serious criminality.

On Feb. 23, Wagad disappeared. The remains of the 31-year-old were found near Chilliwack July 8.

This week, Chaghabouri, 27, of North Vancouver, and Charles Anthony Leslie, 31, of Surrey, were charged with Wagad's first-degree murder, abduction and forcible confinement.

The guy in North Van who died:

METRO VANCOUVER — A North Vancouver man murdered Thursday morning once complained that someone had threatened "to get" his family, according to B.C. Supreme Court documents.

Brandon Vito Hughes, the 28-year-old grandson of the late business mogul Marcangelo De Cotiis, was mentioned in a Vancouver lawsuit filed by his uncle four years ago against other relatives.

Donato De Cotiis claimed a number of threats had been made against him and other family members, including Hughes, because of a long-running family feud that had landed in court several times.

Donato De Cotiis also said he was warned that people linked to the Hells Angels had been hired "to assault, threaten and/or intimidate" him.

VANCOUVER — Police cordoned off two blocks of Cambie Street late Tuesday as a body lay in the middle of the road covered by a white tarp.

Stunned neighbours said they heard at least 10 shots at about 10:15 p.m.

One said she thought at first it was fireworks, but knew it was more when police arrived minutes later.

Shortly before 11 p.m., police were taking witnesses out of the Flying Wedge Pizza and putting them on a transit bus to be taken away for questioning.

Meanwhile, the body lay in the road in front of Chown Memorial United Church, and paramedics waited by a nearby ambulance.

Yellow police tape blocked off Cambie between 19th and 20th.

So the body was there for like probably six hours or more before it was discovered? If the shooting was 1:30am, and it wasn't until the neighbours across the street saw it after waking up...

you can only transport a restricted firearm (handguns, 'cool' rifles and shotguns) to and from the range. unloaded. locked up

you can basically drive around all you like with an unrestricted firearm (most shotguns and rifles) in your vehicle as long as its out of sight.

The McDonald's restaurant beside the Scott Road SkyTrain has turned into a murder scene.

Police aren't saying how a man was killed at around 6 p.m. Saturday night.

Witnesses have told them there was fight near the bathroom.

"We do have witnesses that have indicated some kind of altercation, at the rear of the restaurant," says RCMP Inspector Dave Attfield.

He says the man died inside the restaurant, but the suspect got away. He's being described as in his 20s, unshaven, wearing dark clothing. Police say the suspect and the victim knew each other.

About 30 people were in and around the restaurant at the time.

SURREY (NEWS1130) - Police are dealing with two homicides less than 12 hours apart. The latest happened early around 5 a.m. in the Clayton Heights neighbourhood of Surrey.

A fight at a home in the residential area of 192nd Street and 69th Avenue ended up with a young man being stabbed. He was rushed to hospital but later died of his injuries.

No word on what caused the fight, but Mounties say they were called to the home a number of times overnight and during the early morning hours, responding to noise complaints.

Several people are being questioned by police. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has taken over the case.
