Seriously, the gangs aren't spouting about who's going to get clipped next, so why should we expect the cops to talk about who they're watching/ tailing/ cuffing to chairs and beating with phone books etc.? Sure it would be nice to see some arrests, but the cops are tied down by laws that protect the rights and freedoms of the innocent. Vancouver police have descended on the 6900 block of Fraser Street in East Vancouver after reports of a shooting/stabbing.


CTV Chopper 9 has captured video of what looks like a tarp covering a body lying in the middle of the street.


The area around this incident has been cordoned off by police. Numerous fire, ambulance and police investigators are on site.

Investigators are trying to determine if there are any other victims at the scene.

One person is dead after a shooting Tuesday afternoon in the 6900-block of Fraser Street in Vancouver.

A south vancouver mother watched in horror as gunmen entered her suite and pointed a gun at her son.

Mabel Mohammed said the gunmen were asking for someone named Azim who she does not know.

She told them they had the wrong house and her son wrestled for the gun, shooting one of the assailants dead.

Her son Aleem, 19, who was wounded, is with police and she is desperate for information, she said.

"We are in danger. They came to the wrong house," she said.

The body is currently draped under a white sheet as police begin their investigation.

One neighbour, peering out her window, said she could see police cars and yellow caution tape around 54 Avenue and Fraser Street. The neighbour said roads and back alleys in the area were closed to traffic.

People inside the Ebenezer Baptist Church, which is located near the incident, were asked by police shortly after the shooting to stay inside and not venture out.

Parents were leaving work early to pick up their children from the Sunset Montessori Children's House, located near the shooting. No one at the child care centre was injured, but worried parents were racing there to gather up their children.

The shooting comes on the same day that Peter Van Loan, the federal Minister of Public Safety, said that Vancouver is Canada's centre of gang activity. It follows a rash of other shootings and gangland hits across Metro Vancouver.

On Monday, 23-year-old Nicole Marie Alemy of White Rock was shot and killed while driving in Surrey. Her four-year-old son was in the back seat and survived.

Hundreds of onlookers gasped in horror today as ambulances, police vehicles and police lines were set up near East 53rd Avenue and Fraser, where a corpse lay under a canvas as police interrogated many onlookers.

Nazreen Dean said two white men knocked on the door of her brother's house, asking for two men. Dean said it was simply a case of mistaken identity and the two white men got the house wrong, but shot at her brothers anyway.

"They were just watching a movie. Someone knocked on the door downstairs and they ignored it. Then they knocked on the upstairs and they answered and that's when everything went crazy," Dean said.

Dean said her 19-year-old brother, Aleem Mohammed, was shot, and another brother gave chase. He managed to wrest away a gun and shot one of the two men, whose body is under a white tarp at the corner of East 53rd and Fraser.

Dean said her brother Aleem is in hospital.

"He's stable," said Dean. "They're operating on him at VGH."

Amir, 18, is also still alive, she believes. It's unclear whose corpse lies on 53rd Avenue, just west of Fraser.

"I know these kids. They grew up with me. They're not into gangs. I think it's just the wrong house and wrong people. Maybe they were looking for the people downstairs — we don't know them," Dean said.

Police cordoned off a four-block stretch of Fraser Street, as shell-shocked onlookers talked amongst each other and tried to piece together how such a violent event happened in their neighbourhood.

Many of the onlookers are gathered at the Faith Chinese Baptist Church, which shares the premises at 6858 Fraser St. with the Ebenezer Baptist Church.

then as i was driving westbound from 200th 2 more undercovers i'd never seen before [ a full sized ford excursion and a grey tahoe] ripped it down the eastbound lanes as well

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Vancouver Police are investigating Metro Vancouver's latest shooting. One man was shot several times around 10:30 p.m. Sunday on 12th Ave. near Fraser St.

One caller to News1130 says he heard up to 10 shots at the scene right out in front of his house on 12th Ave. Another caller says the victim came to his back door and tried to get inside.

Police are in the early stages of their investigation and say the victim is known to them.

RCMP in Maple Ridge are investigating a shooting near the intersection of 216th and 132nd - a rural area locals says is known for marijuana grow ops and drug activity. It's believed a black SUV was shot up early thursday morning - no word yet if anyone was killed. One officer remains on the scene. RCMP say more information will be made public later this morning.

MAPLE RIDGE (NEWS1130) - Mounties in Maple Ridge confirm a crash that happened yesterday afternoon is being treated as a suspicious death.

Police got a call around 1:30 about a car lying upside-down in a ditch near 132nd Avenue and 216th Street.
Neighbours reported hearing shots fired just before, and when police pulled out the vehicle, they found it filled with bullet holes.
The body of a man was also recovered and police plan to release more information later today.
Investigators say it's still to early to link this case to drugs or gangs.
