"I recently got the one I won a few weeks ago (29k 2000 Black) – and while most people think I overpaid, what only I can value is how much I was willing put into having my own time machine sitting in my garage.

Sitting in the car, touching the panels and shifter, smelling some of the original car smell, really take me back to my early 20’s – and that’s worth the premium you pay for these. The value of these cars is much more than the physical performance they have as automobiles.

I can remember sitting in my Integra wondering if 120 seconds of Autocrossing was worth the whole day sitting and waiting at an event. Or driving out to a track day hoping I was able to make it back home and to work the next day in the very same car..

All those days of cruising around campus and justifying ditching class since there was no premo-parking available, or setting off car alarms by punching the gas in low gear in a parking lot. Or picking up on all the hotties once they saw me drive by… Actually, I don’t think that one ever actually happened."

I have a 98 ITR with that key and another black key. The chrome got pretty scratched up over the years.

anyone knows what best to delete the rear wiper? i bought 91617-SB6-000, but the lip don't bite onto the glass, so it is very loose.

Also, looking for front camber kit.

I would like to know which rear wiper plug is best for my 2001 as well. I never use the wiper.

I finished 3/52 PAX at autox yesterday :) I credit the car!

Yes. One chrome and two grey. They are for the pre-immobilizer cars (97-99). They can still be bought through Acura but a price hike put them up to like $60 per USD if not more. I picked them up a few years ago for $25 each. Even the center console is stupid expensive now.

Negative unless you switch to OBD1 and use Hondata or something similar. The stock ECU needs to be matched to the black chip key. My 2000 is the same.

maybe jasonturbo can use another one........

Thought about it for 5-10 minutes, there are a number of issues:

1 - It's not yellow
2 - I can't live with another b-series powered Honda, would prefer to buy something that isn't all original and low KM
3 - Rumor has it that the car is from out East and may have accident history
4 - Searching sellers phone number revealed some negative feedback from DSM forums

HID King - The ultimate source for HID Lighting, headlights and accessories - Xenon Headlights, (http://www.hidking.com/)

Beyond all that, the sales tactic of "It's up for one week or I'll keep it" tells me the seller is looking for an emotional "panic" buyer that will disregard due-diligence in favor of ensuring the car does not slip away.

VR6GTI

^ edit: Shit beat me to it
What bugs me about these sellers asking so much money is they don't give any details about accidents/thefts, vin tags, recent records, the list goes on. You ask a premium prove why or i always assume your trying to hide something.
That 01 with the picture of the front cover that mark on the side isnt a scuff its proof of a poor paint job on the cover

TouringTeg
06-27-2018, 12:09 PM
No picture of engine bay so you can't see the missing VIN on the fender
No mention of accidents or theft
No mention or close up of badge number
High pressure sales tactic

All of this is on purpose.

twitchyzero
06-27-2018, 02:31 PM
meh when you're selling an ITR you don't have to feel obligated to post vin or badge number

those serious enough will come look at it

TouringTeg
06-27-2018, 02:37 PM
^ True

In this case I am speculating that the owner did not reveal the badge number because they are purposefully trying to hide the history.

Saying this the owner will probably chime in with the badge #

With what there selling for these days I’m thinking more and more of unloading my R for a CTR. Fits my lifestyle more with a family. It’s the fear of massive sellers remorse that’s stopping me. The ITR is special in a way the CTR will never be but the CTR is so much more car then the ITR will ever be. Any Type R fathers wanna chime in?

you'll regret it in a bit after unloading it and the feeling of the DC2 cannot be replaced

if you have the room to store and don't need the money i'd say keep it.

It's all nostalgia for me which makes it's near impossible to want to sell. I'm still enjoying ownership, collecting OEM parts, addressing items here and there, etc. I'd only sell if I did not have secure indoor storage or if it had to be my primary vehicle. Any worthy replacement would be more expensive than even the most expensive ITR nowadays so selling to achieve a "better" car is still far off financially for me.

If your car just sits and your "over it" then no harm in capitalizing on the premium prices. I was completely over my built ITR and I have zero regrets selling it.

my wife approves it because it doesnt compromise anyfunctionality.
that means, we are driving it more often now.

I havent put my SiR on sale yet because owned it since new... and it has relatively low kms. so we got rid of the family MDX to keep both civic's lol. and they can fit car seats fine

I dealt with Adam before. I bought two sets of Eibach springs for my FK8 off him. He was selling them on a FK8 Facebook group, he had legit photos of his own FK8 so I took the risk and EMT'd a stranger I never met. A few hours later he drops it off at my work place.

He also sells the Canadian "VTEC TURBO" sticker to Americans as well, and I've seen lots of people having good experiences and vouch for him.

Smooth transaction, quick response.

As for replacing your toy with a FK8, I currently have my AP2 which I rarely get to enjoy, as well as the FK8 and my Audi S3. S3 being my daily. I couldn't bring myself to sell the AP2 but I have been often contemplating that because I have that constant worry that someone will hit it or something. While it is absolutely useless in practicality as well.

I've said it before but if you are forced to have one car to do it all, get the damn FK8. It fits everything, goes like hell, sips fuel.

TouringTeg
06-28-2018, 02:19 PM
A friend of mine recently bought an FK8 and I got to spend some time in both cars. He was on his way to buy a new Honda Accord 2.0T 6spd manual and this CW was available because the owner backed out. If you are on here Mike.. great choice! I have had some time to gather my thoughts. I also had my stock wheels back on for maximum nostalgia.

The FK8 has better brakes, shifting, power, seats, interior, full back seats, and tech. The exhaust sound is quiet so you don't disturb your neighbor's or sleeping kids. An exhaust could fix this. There is no VTEC kick.

The ITR is going on 22 years since the 96 was introduced. Performance wise it has aged very well and is still a blast to drive. Just don't try to highway run anything but a Versa. The ITR is gaining respect in the collector and enthusiast world despite being FWD. The simple yet well laid out interior, smooth shifting, the hard hit of VTEC all the way to redline. And of course the sounds! Driving the ITR is an assault on the senses. I never turn the radio on and prefer windows down. That is what makes it fun.

Like swfk says the CTR is certainly the better "do everything car" compared to the ITR. At least 2 current ITR owners are currently selling on craiglist because they have a new CTR.

For me I could not give up my ITR for a CTR. But certainly I would like to add a CTR to the garage. Along with a host of other cars lol

Iron Chef: I am a father of two (4 and 1.5 yrs) and have a baby seat in the back when not racing. I have a work vehicle and a 13 CRV family hauler so at this point ITR suits my needs as a third car. When the pick up/drop off happens more in the future that may change.

I think the hood on the CTR is at least 8" taller than the ITR both with stock suspension.

Btw I hope your 97 ITR friend has a high quality car cover protecting it! I looked at a Boxster with a friend last year. It was covered by a blue tarp in the winter and was covered in scratches.

iron chef, if I remember correctly you've kept your cars for a long ass time...don't you also have a civic from you were 16 or something?

tbh if you even have the faintest worry that you'll regret it, just keep it
you never know where the prices may go, if you let it go you may not find a clean one again without paying drastically more

how many times have we read the omg i'll be buying back that s2000 one day sad face posts around here?

Thanks for al the reply’s.

The only reason this question ever comes up is the rising value of the ITR. For me my R is my summer vehicle. But on sunny days I prefer to commute by scooter , on my weekend I use my family car so in a week I might take it out for a cruise maybe once a week if I have the time. I got storage for it and I don’t need the money but it would be nice to simplify my life and trade 2 cars for one that will do everything. Between my civic and R I have 2 cars that don’t really fit my lifestyle anymore. The joys of adulting and choosing between what your heart wants and what your brain wants.

Depends if you're all about driving it or all about owning it. I enjoy ITR ownership and I like to be on this side of the fence while prices increase. It doesn't bother me if I don't drive for weeks on end, just the availability to drive it is all I need. Since tracking a stock one and then eventually a built one, I have no desire to track the one I have now. It's for meets with friends, cruises in the summer time and to sit in the garage while I stare at it.

Know that prices will continue to increase, there's is no market fall out with these cars. Whatever you sell for today you will pay more for another in the future.

Between the ITR and CTR, the ITR will outlive the CTR. The amount of parts and engines to keep it going are endless. Its all mechanical, easy to work on. Its like a energizer bunny, it just keeps on going and going and going.

I think I like owning it and driving it. My car is clean in that it’s 2 owner, low km and clean title, but it’s not clean enough where I feel bad for thrashing it. I love that I can romp on it at the track and it takes it and ask for more. I love that the cost of ownership is so low that I don’t feel bad for any part I break. Apart from theft there are no negative ownership experiences. I feel so strongly about how solid this vehicle is I signed up for ITR Expo 18 , so road trip to Cali then a track day.

The joy is in the drive and I feel I would drive a CTR more.

Otherwise Iron Chef may have one for me soon.

If that is 16k CAD that is a decent deal! Of course you would need a close inspection with claims and a JDM front.

I am planning to install a bucket seat on the driver side and am going to run my OEM 3 point seat belts. I have a basic Sparco bracket, rail and side mount that has a provision for the seat belt receiver (thanks Amuro Ray!) I plan on buying another seat belt receiver and hardware so I don't need to swap it from my OEM seat.

Is there a setup that works so that the OEM seat belt receiver goes through the hole of the seat? DC2 or EG receiver with extender?

Those with FK8 R's.... weird question but I was hoping someone could help me out since no dealer will let me take one for an extended test drive.

Here in the GTA it's extremely muggy so I run the AC pretty much all the time. On my TSX my car feels noticeably slower when the AC is on. I have to rev it higher and the throttle response feels more sluggish. As if I'm driving with a shitty CVT (my car is automatic).

My buddy who is a red seal tech told me that 4-cylinder Honda motors don't produce much torque. So when the AC compressor is on, there is a significant feeling of power loss.

My question is, does the FK8 have the same issue? How's the performance of the car when the AC is on?

I know it sounds dumb but I really can't stand how warm it is here, and I don't want to shell out 50k to experience the same BS I have with my TSX...

Expresso

Isn't this an issue not limited to the Type R, all cars have this issue.

Of course. But from my experience, cars that make more power have it happen to a point that it impacts performance less. I figure since the FK8 is 8 years newer and has more advanced technology, plus with significantly more power, it won't be so bad. But I have no way of finding out for myself.

I guess I should rephrase to say, does having the AC constantly on make the car feel significantly more sluggish and bogged down?

With ITRs becoming unattainable are EM1 SiR and GSR prices creeping upwards?

twitchyzero
09-02-2018, 11:20 PM
the EM1 are already becoming quite scarce and will be like the CRX in 10 years but won't be BATbait where people are expecting 30k+ for clean examples...you have to remember they're 'just' Si for the USDM so frankly even the rarest of Civics in history haven't hit ridiculous prices

GS-R being the 2nd rung in trim level I think most people except the die-hards have simply forgotten about them

I think Del Sol has joined the Insight and Beat as those quirky cars that'll never really become golden

if anything I can see the Preludes making a comeback in value

shiesty
09-03-2018, 12:52 PM
Agreed the EM1 are hard to find unmolested nowadays. And it was the top trim civic you could buy in north America during the "golden era" so I see it at least holding it's value

Decent little 89 CRX Si as well. Has quarter rust.

https://www.usedvictoria.com/classified-ad/1989-Honda-CRX-Si_32257849.lite

I have had em1 SiR, pair of del sol, and a CRX.

Prices for em1 SiR haven't gone in Canada up like I expected. Del Sol dont have a big following either. The 97 I had with B16A was a lot of fun. It is actually up for sale again for $4400. If it goes cheaper I might buy it back. It drives like a go cart. Unfortunately they all leak water in (targa and trunk).

Low mile Preludes (last gen) have gone for big money on BAT but I dont see that happening in Canada. Again unmodified low mileage GSR are available but most sellers have a hard time moving them along. There just aren't buyers in Canada it appears.

Finding a clean unmolested CRX is really difficult.

Anyone redone their DC2 seat ?
Like new cushion and springs ?

It isn't worth it ?

We spoke already but I think getting replacement black ITR seats is the way to go. They come up for sale on various platforms.

I had good luck having my ITR wheels refinished at Panther. Nubrite was good as well. I think the grey center caps are discontinued

True. Hard to find a set that doesn't need some sort of refinishing. And come to think of it, you don't really need two sets of wheels that are the same because you can change the color whenever you want.

I don't have any wheels for sale at the moment unfortunately.

The wait-list has mostly winded down.

A few dealers have them in stock, and i do not think you can haggle the price on it too much.. for they are still kinda rare and the dealer will eventually sell it. They also attract customers in.

Depends where you are.

In the GTA there are no fewer than 5 dealerships within 30 mins away that have one in stock, ready to go. Waitlists here are pretty much nonexistent. When I bought my R I just walked in, cash in hand. Paid MSRP, no accessories. Just freight and PDI on top of the base price of $41k.

I imagine things are similar in BC, especially for dealerships that are further inland....

The 2018 run will end this month, and October will start the 2019 builds.

A co-worker of mine just got his Type R last month, after being on the wait list for the dealership he put a deposit down on since January (Maple Ridge).

I put my deposit down for a 2019 at the beginning of August at Surrey Honda, and I'm the first on the list. After I put my deposit down, the next week they called me offering a White or Red 2018 that were showing up in the next week/2 weeks. I had to resist and am holding out.

So at least for me, they seem to be relatively easy to come by. Just need to shop around a bit. The problem with the ones that are currently for sale at the dealership, have the dealer accessories loaded on driving the price up by thousands. Technically the base car is MSRP, but you're paying a whole bunch more for the illumination package/fake carbon fibre trim etc.

Thought about just doing it yourself?
A few weekends ago, I fixed up and painted a set of wheels.
Found a set of Enkei's on craigslist for $200 that were thrashed. A few hours of sanding, primer, paint. Done. Maybe $250 total spent including the wheels, and now I have pretty decent set of winters for my CTR :-)

Pretty sure it is illegal to sell a new car for more than MSRP. Unless a manager bought it, added a few km to it, and re-sold it to the dealership so it could be sold as a "used car".

At least that is what the dealer who sold me my R told me...

My guess is the dealership factored the install time of the lighting package into the price.

I'm looking at Honda.ca and seeing different prices. Also, Honda says on the website that Accessories include installation cost, so that can't be it.

Civic Type-R - $41,090.00

Federal Air Conditioner Fee - $100.00
Tire Duty - $25.00
Illumination Package - $862.00

Total - $44,174.00

If you add the lighting and mats separately, you get:

I think it's a good deal.
Surprising, it's actually not that expensive, it's tiered by number of years of coverage.
A friend of mine got the 2 or 3 year coverage, was around $300.
He got a nail in his sidewall, unrepairable. The warranty covered the replacement tire. Besides having to leave his car at the dealership almost 2 weeks for Continental to send a replacement (apparently there's a nationwide shortage on the stock 20's tires), it was taken care of. So already the warranty pretty much paid for itself. I'll definitely be getting the coverage on my R.

That's what I had heard too, given the Sedan/Coupe is getting it. But the hatch/Type R changes may likely be coming in their 2020 model line up. The sedan/coupe came out a year before the hatch, so the timing of their mid-cycle refresh make sense.

I guess we'll see. My rationale was more driven on when the '19s were coming, now that I got that confirmation I will enjoy 6 more months of driving it vs waiting. My 2016 Accord has the exact same infotainment, and the lack of knob and overall functionality hasn't bothered me much.

Sharing this from the CivicX forum

This is from the 2019 Civic Type R accessory brochure (confirmed by two Honda employees).

Looks like they've downgraded the headlights on the 2019 CTR from full LED, to projector + halogen (high beams?) similar to the lower trim civics. And the side mirrors don't look to be color matched (hard to see, could just be the fake CF accessory for the mirrors). Otherwise, doesn't look like any fake vent changes.

I'm even more glad I picked up the 2018 :-)

I figured it would have sold for slightly more but that's a new record anyway so yay for ITR owners. I couldn't spend $40K CAD on an ITR let alone double that but props to rich people for making ITR's worth more today

In other news, I took my ITR out today for a quick boot. Sunny day, why not right? I was heading south on Hwy 99 and a broken blue-painted pallet flew up from the car in front of me and nailed my front bumper on the drivers side. Fcuk me. Pulled over near the Blundell overpass to assess. Sure enough, blue paint transfer on the lip and bumper. Quite a bit too. Spirits are low as I cruise back to my office. Luckily I had a bottle of Goof Off laying around so I gave it a shot with some paper towel. Sure enough with some elbow grease I was able to completely remove all of the paint transfer and luckily there was zero physical damage. I credit Project Detail and all the hard work Brendan did with the ceramic coating. Completely protected the paint, clear coat intact, no sign of damage now. I picked up my Golf R from him yesterday and he gave me a small bottle of Q2M Cure spray which I used to get the shine back on the ITR. An amazing result from what could have been a terrible occurrence.

For any of you CW CTR owners
I just bought a diecast on the Honda Owners licensed merchandise store
https://hondadrivergear.staples.com/ProductDetail.aspx?did=28406&pid=239055&logoid=0

$37 USD, is alot cheaper than what I've seen other diecasts going for. Shipping to Blaine was $10, vs $40 to canada.

You got lucky. Honda Canada stop handing out free within half year.

I bought 2 of this from CL $10 each. Peter is awesome seller.

Just curious for those who got CTR on finance. Is there loyalty offer on the rate?

I was planning on buying with cash, but markets seem to be going down and I don't want to tie up funds but the financing rate Honda has for the CTR is super high. At least it's an open loan.
