Canadian Rider 10-05-2004 12:00 AM

jeffh 10-05-2004 06:03 PM

fourtirefire 10-05-2004 06:24 PM

replaced my lack of idle set screw, back down to 750rpm. I'm hoping it will help fuel mileage a bit.

down_hill_dog 10-05-2004 08:35 PM

took the head off and the intake manifold off today... theyre currently sitting on my work bench ready to go to OK engine rebuilders for work to be done. new headbolts and gasket are on their way. I could un-do the headbolts with my regular ratchet with ease :(

SpooSports 10-05-2004 10:15 PM

Craig, the headbolts are supposed to be only 58ft lbs so that would be easy to remove with any ratchet. Just think about it, you can remove your wheels easy enough with a 1/2 inch ratchet and they are usually around 80ft lbs..............

if you are unhappy with the work that I did please let me know, I would rather hear it from you than second hand from somebody else. I feel that I provide quality work to other people and myself and am confident in everthing I do, if I didnt I would not do it.

I think that there were a lot of things in that job that were overlooked and rushed just so it could get on the road. If you take all the necessary steps first time around and have all the parts needed things like this would not happen.

I also contacted Isuzu and asked them about the head milling and bolts and after I explained to them how the previous gasket went ( overheating and 271,xxx kilometers on the motor ) they said the head should be milled and new headbolts installed, they also recommended a factory headgasket not the fel-pro one that we used.

down_hill_dog 10-05-2004 11:35 PM

sorry i won't clutter up the thread discussing this... you have pm. And no as always, i was happy with the work no matter what that azn fuck says, just when it went wrong it should have been a little more important to get it re-done asap. Keep in mind the headgasket that went 50 km's later did come out of your garage. I'll put the rest in the pm.

proshoraca 10-06-2004 06:19 PM

milling a head is a must, and something you should absolutely always do if you know that your motor has bin overheated. if the gasket Didn't blow again, i'd have bin reaaaaly reaaaly surprised. You dont need to replace head bolts, unless they have bin in and out tons of times. OR if they are a torque-to-yield bolt.

mod of day-didn't mod anything

down_hill_dog 10-06-2004 06:25 PM

heads at the machine shop right now. Arp head studs are on order and from the looks of things fel-pro makes the isuzu gasket for them. So the kellermans at OK engines are gonna try and hook me up with somthing better. I'll post pics of the fel-pro vs isuzu. it's actually really funny

Jennings 10-06-2004 09:06 PM

Why on earth would you ever ever replace a head gasket without maching the head  I hope well it is at the machine shop now you do yourself a favour and spend the extra couple bucks to get it preasure tested aswell so you will not be doing this all over in another 50 km.

Question: DHD when you change your oil do you actually change the oil filter aswell ??? just curious.

I'm pretty sure the Isuzu gasket is thicker than the fel-pro, go for the OEM on this one.

Got new tires and an allignment yesterday. Its amazing - I can let go of the wheel and my car doesn't veer off of the road.

down_hill_dog 10-07-2004 03:00 PM

this guy knows me all too well.. i'm not a fucking idiot, i've done many headgaskets before, i know you always get the head machined i really don;t know why we did'nt.

HyperREV 10-07-2004 04:40 PM

Changed my fuel filter.. holy shit the old one was plugged, so many chunks of murky gas, and couldn't even blow through it.
