The first one's kinda meh, but the other two are awesome because of the color behind the model. The wrinkles in his shirt are also sort-of distracting.

right out of left field...

no comment man... no comment... :D

true dat. If the tie was not there, i'll bet you the bottons would be popping out/look stretched out. That and the shoulders are short too.

thanks for the feedback guys, but I was kinda looking for critique on the photography aspect rather than the fashion aspect lol. He just showed up like that. It's what he wanted to wear, I didn't really care haha

Yeah the shirt doesn't fit him at all.. do you lose points if your model has a belly sticking out?

Well, you know this bunch, one glimpse of a guy's nipples and they forget everything else... ;)

*running away*

Everything that is visible in an image contributes to it. What do you mean by 'photography aspect'? Lighting? The lighting is for the most part good, except the slightly blown highlights, but the wrinkles in the shirt kill the images. Who was your intended audience when taking the images?

Senna4ever 10-02-2008 09:42 AM

Not sure if I posted this before...it's been so long since I've posted on a regular basis like I used to...

Made dinner for my GF on our anniversary and took some pics of the food:

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3258/...d480e6.jpg?v=0
Steamed mussels with a tomato, saffron and white wine broth; with crunchy tomato and cheese bread

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3022/...8a7995.jpg?v=0
Pan seared scallops on a bed of enoki and oyster mushrooms. Served with crimini and porcini mushroom rissotto

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3205/...fe2545.jpg?v=0
Ahi Tuna marinated with soy, mirin and wasabi

lemme know what you think of the pics! I know they need improvement, but they were kinda rushed since i was cooking at the same time :)

Matsuda 10-02-2008 04:57 PM

now I'm hungry..damn you

Senna4ever 10-02-2008 06:05 PM

davidhtam: White balance! Also looks like you have mixed lighting too. :)

MikesJo 10-02-2008 06:43 PM

David, are you a cook? Or is it another hobby?

Me too. :(

davidhtam 10-02-2008 06:49 PM

ugh.. i suck at white balance. Any tips on how i can better adjust it? Sometimes, i think it's my eyes.. they suck at seeing color

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3083/...e06b6a.jpg?v=0

is this better?

And about mixed lighting... is that bad? I had my flash go off in a soft box to camera... right... i think

i guess you could call it a hobby... more of a passion though

Soundy 10-02-2008 08:44 PM

That's so romantic... "Honey, don't eat that yet, I have to take a picture of it to post on RS!"

ColinK 10-02-2008 10:55 PM

for whitebalance, I usually just choose auto in ps raw editor. (obviously depending on the results I may change it). But it's usually pretty good at guessing right. You can also use an eyedropper to select a white spot on the photo (in this case maybe the plate?).

What you adjusted looks a lot closer though :)

Senna4ever 10-02-2008 11:08 PM

david: try not have have different light sources...that way WB is easy. :)

davidhtam 10-04-2008 09:15 AM

Thanks for the tips!!

(this is exactly what i'm looking for when i post pics up :) )

The problem isn't the saturation or the editing you chose to use. I think it is because we've seen you use it on so many photos. For the photos of the girl with the graffiti background, the photo effect was okay because it makes sense. However, when you start using it for all your photos, it seems like you're just applying the photo effect on all your photos without any particular reason for it.

It's a good photo effect to use for modelmayhem models because they like a variety in their portfolio and they think those photo effects are cool. But for real modeling portfolios or for your own photography portfolio, the photos need to look more natural. Try editing without touching the fill light, clarity, and saturation sliders. If the photos are just for fun then feel free to do whatever you like.
