Can anyone recommend a good watch repair shop in Langley area? I have a Breitling that needs servicing. The German is only open Monday to Friday so it's difficult to get all the way downtown during the week.

And where do you guys buy your watches online? Suggestions on the best places to buy online?

6793026 10-24-2015 08:53 AM

Sorry. I wouldn't trust Langley stores.

another place is Otto Friedl Ltd, right ACROSS from absolute spa. It's under Fairmount Hotel vancouver. Sadly, M-F only. German shop is closed since Oct 10-Oct 27. just FYI.

SUPER professional, serviced my watch and just epic service. You'll see vintage rolex and PP being serviced there. I jut got mine done yesterday.

automatic looks reallllly nice

Been working really hard and long hours recently so I figured why not treat myself. My arm is fully extended in that picture, the watch fits nicely under my sleeve.

looking for recommendations on an automatic watch...new US$1000
i like one's where it's see through on the backside so the movement is visible
preferably Swiss Made from an indie company...not conglomerates like Swatch or LVMH

not sure how realistic my parameters are...I have been looking at some of the entry-level Breitlings but they look kinda big for my small wrist and a bit too blingy

Energy 11-15-2015 03:40 PM

Sinn 556? It fits your criteria but is German, not Swiss.

Edit: or the Tissot Visodate Heritage for a more dressy look

tissot
steinhart
hamilton
seiko sarb (not swiss)

Phozy 11-15-2015 10:45 PM

If anyone knows where i can my hands on a Steinhart marine black anchor... Please let me know :)

kkttsang 11-15-2015 10:46 PM

Tissot steinhart and Hamilton all use ETA movements which is own by the swatch group. He mention he doesn't want anything from the swatch group. I think he's looking for in house movements but 1000$ will be hard to get u a Swiss in house. With 1000$ you may have to settle with ETA movments or Japanese

trancehead 11-17-2015 07:58 PM

IMO $1000 gets you in the wierd middle ground. watches that arnt respected (not even good resale value nor commanding respect/name recognition)

i would stay away from $300 - $3000 range for brand new watches.
just get a solid seiko / citizen for under $300.

or get a used Omega [et al].

on another note, is it just me or did MSRP for buying watches in Canada rise since the $CDN has fell deeply below the $USD ?

corollagtSr5 11-17-2015 11:38 PM

Anyone have 22m nato strap they want to sell?

Since buying my Seiko SKX007, I've made a habit of wearing a watch all the time. I recently picked up golf and the 007 wasn't that comfortable (the superoyster bracelet is a tad bit loose and moves during the swing) so I needed something else to wear... I've also heard that the shock/vibration from the impact isn't that good for the watch (is this even true?).

Bought this cheap little classic that I'll be taking with me to the range and courses:

how much did you pay for this?

where did you buy it from?

R1CED` 11-21-2015 12:12 AM

thanks for the recommendations
yeah the sinn and used omega seems to be other ppl's pick in a similar budget
I figured what I'm willing to pay is too little for in-house internals

right now i'm most interested in the visodate...i'm worried it's too dressy for a daily (I work in scrubs :lol)

any more recommendation on a leather strap + minimalist dial combo? hamilton intra-matic and vsa alliance are not bad too.

kkttsang 11-21-2015 08:42 AM

How big r u looking for 33-34mm? If u don't mind smaller you can go vintage style. Vintage seamaster that well restored is a nice piece or other vintage higher end watches are very classy.

If you want bigger, have you heard of nomos, look at their tangente. I don't know if you like the white face blue hands look.

If u can go used, and you can stretch that 1000 a bit you can get a used Aqua terra.

If you want to stay under 1000 and a dress watch look at frederique constant. They sell it in that watch store on Georgia, time and gold. Go in and look at the watch but buys new online much cheaper, unless you can haggle them down.
Also if you are ok with swatch groups now too, since u looking at tissot, u can give longines a look, they may have different style. But tissot and longine is like Honda and Acura, same inside different outside paying for the name.
But visodate is classy, one of the best affordable dress watch.

I would suggest you look into frederique constant too

kkttsang 11-21-2015 08:46 AM

Oh I also read that you work in scrubs, r u in hospital setting, if so maybe look for something with a decent wr, water resistance, and I dunno how well the leather strap will hold up under constant water. Just a though.

easily one of the most aesthetic watches I have seen for that price. Looks sooooo much better in person than the picture imo. Surprisingly, my picture from my phone came out better than I thought. After I bought it on amazon.ca , other retailers on that site is selling it for $1000 now lmao...

The blue and white dials really fit well with the simplicity of white / silver face.

I believe you, I'm gonna go seek one out locally just to take a look at it.
