Skinny you really got a theme going on here. This is one nice piece! it matches really well with the Panerai

I promise you it's 100% coincidence that I like watches that were used by (and in one case made by a former) Nazis

New Blancpain Swatch looks really nice... Still $400 MSRP though. I think these will sell much better than the colourful ones

I’d argue no. It’s just like the moonswatch people who bought the “moon” one. Those are the ones who just wanted to a speed master without paying for a speed master.

The best sellers were the Neptune and Uranus due to the nice color combinations. These swatches are suppose to be fun and not too serious.

SkinnyPupp 01-10-2024 03:33 AM

I'm just annoyed because I'd love to have a mechanical chronograph, but the minutes dial on the moonswatch is utterly useless. I'd buy it in a millisecond if it had a proper index FeelsBadMan

i like my blancswatch, at least its an automatic movement (although its mass produced and completely automated apparently) but its fun, colorful, and endearing. Good way to commemorate the hong kong trip

68style 01-10-2024 11:18 AM

You didn't buy a watch to commemorate the first time you met me... or our movie date :alone:

Typical ETA movements across all Swatch brands are becoming this way, apparently. Especially the basic ones like the 2824 and PowerMatic 80 that is based on it (so Hamilton, Tissot). When it comes time for service, they just treat it like a Miyota and chuck it and install a new one. Only major difference is they cost $250 instead of like $30, and of course the heritage (and ability to put "Swiss Made" on the label)

I'd love it if every watch brand offered a Japanese version of their Swiss watches, and knocked 80% off the price. Impossible marketing of course, but that's basically how I got my Laco. You can get the Swiss version for $1500 or the Japanese one for $300. The choice is pretty obvious to me. I can live with a "ghost position" in the crown lol. My watch has been absurdly accurate; like +3-5 seconds per month when wearing it regularly. When I feel like it about once a month, I just pull the crown for a few seconds to adjust it to atomic time.

Badhobz 01-12-2024 06:16 AM

I wonder if they throw out the movement in my blancswatch will they just replace it with a non decorated generic one or will they keep my nice fancy oem one.

I mean for a toy I’m totally fine with them replacing the movement. Your average Rolex and omega service is like over 1000 bucks and they don’t replace jack. Supposedly they disassemble everything and clean it/ re oil the barrels / reassemble it but in all honesty I’m pretty sure they just do nothing

bcrdukes 01-12-2024 06:18 AM

For $1000 or whatever service costs, would you be choked if Rolex or Omega just took your existing movement, chucked it in the trash, and replaced it with a generic one? :lol

I know for a while, Tudor was doing this to their movements when sent in for service, but only on certain models/movements.

For a few of my watches, I recently had them serviced by a local watchmaker and it's the usual disassemble, clean, oil and replace any worn parts sorta deal. Nomos wanted the equivalent of $1000+ CAD and an eight month turnaround time. I was like :fuckthatshit: and got it serviced locally for a fraction of the cost instead. Some of you are probably dying inside reading this but I don't often sell my watches so perceived devaluation is a non-problem.

Badhobz 01-19-2024 07:40 AM

I wear my wife's Hamilton JM Viewmatic from time to time. I really don't own a dress watch. If I do have to clean up a little it's a nice change from my toolies.

I will put a slightly older railmaster (36mm pre trilogy preferably) in my drawer at some point, but i just have so little use for anything dressy that it's hard to justify.

68style 01-19-2024 01:21 PM

Railmaster sounds like something you'd get from one of those "What would your porn name be?" games

SkinnyPupp 01-19-2024 02:16 PM

Railmaster was Omega's answer to Rolex's Milgauss I posted a few pages ago, with a faraday cage to protect from super high magnetic fields. Back then they had the Seamaster, Speedmaster, and Railmaster, all with a nice broad arrow on the hour hand. The Railmaster looks like a Seamaster without a timing bezel. These were all quite nice actually, with a 12-3-6-9 index

https://media.lunaroyster.com/2019/03/IMG_9713-4.jpg

It was a really unpopular model, and only lasted 5 years. They brought it back in the 2000s and they were discontinued again Sadge

They brought it back again under the Seamaster range in 2012 (so it's "Seamaster Railmaster" now) and I think they're still around, but without a broad arrow.

Speaking of which, on other Seamaster models, for some reason Omega puts the broad arrow on the minutes hand, which makes zero sense to me WutFace

Badhobz 01-19-2024 05:37 PM

I was trying to find a rail master from two years ago due to my railroading background but no such luck. I did however throw my nato strap on my aquaterra and I think it came out really sharp. What a versatile band
