Didn't Seiko put out a new version of the Arnie a couple years ago?

SkinnyPupp 02-01-2024 01:15 PM

Yup it's discontinued by now I think but I'm sure they're still around

Passsss

I did grab a couple of women's fashion watches, was going to take them apart and try to make something custom for my gf for fun like $8 each haha

the SA on South Granville was decent when I use to frequent the area. The SA in Kerrisdale never ever had anything. The Garden City VV use to do junk bags where some of the vintage ones would make it in

I'll see what I can do to come up with a small junk bag of watches that you can tinker with if you want

68style 02-02-2024 10:53 AM

Yah the Granville SA was the best of the bunch, I grabbed a couple of women's fashion watches there... a Skagen and a DKNY and a Lorus... but the rest of the stuff was super junky and no men's stuff really.

I need to get some proper tools lol

JL F service and drinks were amazing but tbh the food didn't blow my mind.

Some of the best comfort on the plane from the moment I sat down but also annoyed that the WiFi did not work for half the flight.

Would rather they have focused the menu and just executed better.

Need to try their new business class product on A350 when it rolls out.

68style 02-02-2024 11:05 AM

I flew on JAL 4 times in the last year and every single time they apologized sating the WiFi doesn't work on the plane lol

That said I'd take it any day over AC... ANA is my fave tho

I liked ANA's food a lot more but their J "The Room" and F "The Suite" both have really really hard cushioning that made my butt go numb....

AC's new Signature Class biz with the porsche transfers, signature lounge, and lay flat seats with massaging (777/787 only?) can hit the spot if i'm forced to fly a north american carrier

I wonder if it's about the combination (cuz Withings been doing something similar for a long time and never really hit Apple Watch popularity) or the styling.

AP basically built a brand on that shape ...... really hoping I can snag one at retail in the next few years to celebrate some sort of a moment.

I don't think anyone except you and Hobz needs to worry about such things lol

JL's economy is basically premium economy on every other airline - highly recommend

First class is too bourgeoisie for even me. I can’t stand spending the amount of an economy car on a flight somewhere. Business class is good enough. As long as my fat ass can sleep laying down, it’s good.

trollface 02-05-2024 07:38 AM

If anyone is interested, it's $640 dollars to service a watch at Otto. 3 month wait.

Badhobz 02-05-2024 07:53 AM

640 aint bad vs sending it back to the big names. over 1k+ at rolex, patek, omega etc

bcrdukes 02-05-2024 09:19 AM

I pay $200 for my watch service and get it back in 2 weeks. :okay::alone:

rb 02-05-2024 03:23 PM

Nobert was charging $500 2yrs ago for a service. Could only assume its more now but he usually gets it back to you in a week

that's what it was last time I was there.

it's been 5+ years, i guess I'm due, but i think I'll let it ride until I have trouble.

re: casioaks. really love these. Camping, skiing - even motorcycles (bike vibes are really hard on movements). I got a plastic one for 80? bucks during a Bay days sale last year. They go on sale all the time, but the selection is limited.

trollface 02-05-2024 07:01 PM

Nobert won't work on some movements, had no choice but to go Otto.

They're so backed up it's not even funny. 3 months.

fly to TO, get watch serviced, save $$$ and faster turnaround:pokerface:

bcrdukes 02-08-2024 08:19 AM

Given that you take business class, wouldn't that be like $2500 + $200 and hotels stays etc? lol

I should clarify that this fee is just a service, not a full blown overhaul as some people may assume it would be. It includes the basic parts like gaskets, oil etc but if anything that needs to be replaced, that's extra. I don't have fancy watches like you guys so I'd expect your Rolex Daytonas or Pateks will cost a lot more.

Badhobz 02-08-2024 09:22 AM

Oh.

Now you tell me.

I was gonna take flare airlines for like 40 dollars.
Drop off watch and fly back. Then come pickup later

68style 02-08-2024 09:32 AM

Yah right you'd take Flair anywhere lol

You can't even spell it that's how foreign it is to you! hahaha

Depends. They were also charging ~$500+tax and about a 3 week wait 2 years ago.

SkinnyPupp 02-10-2024 08:23 PM

Direct manufacturer service prices from a watch blog I follow in Hong Kong:

Quote:

My experience in service watches typically watch I the past 3 year are here:-

Patek Philippe Nautilus 3800/1A white gold $10,250 ($1800 CAD), 3.5 months – two year warranty, Superb service!

Rolex Daytona 16528 overhaul HK$9,000 ($1500 CAD) (two months) – Good service.

IWC Pilot White gold perpetual calendar 34mm as I need to readjust the time from gain of 12 sec. a day then they retuned me with 2 sec. gain a day in two week! It was free as the watch is under warranty. This is an excellent service.

Richard Mille RM-11 Ti not running well, it time to overhaul after 2011. The charge was $28,500 ($5000 CAD) 2 months to return me…- Superb service, and I got one year extra warranty on that watch and a beautiful RM watch box.

...

AP charges me for complete service a Royal Oak 5402BA with HK$198,000! ($35,000 CAD)
Granted that watch is the original Royal Oak from 1972, but still insane for a 2 hander with a simple movement (JLC 2121).

bcrdukes 02-10-2024 08:55 PM

$35K for a watch service.

SkinnyPupp 02-10-2024 09:37 PM

Well.. $10K to service a PP that is worth $80K = 12.5% value of watch

$9K to service the Daytona that is worth $50K = 18% value of watch

$28K to service the RM11 worth $250K = 11.2% value of watch

$200K to service a watch worth $2m... That's a good deal in comparison! LUL
