i still dont get how people "accidentally" updates their phone to some other firmware...

probably cause their iTunes is set to automatically check for new updates everytime they connect their iPhone and they're not paying attention so they just say OK.

The 3G iPhone can not be unlocked yet but can be jail broken.

The 1 gen phone can be unlocked and jail broken regardless of fw.

The iClarified web link posted above has some good tutorials on unlocking your phone.

I have the problem with ringtones - I've added like 10 and in my ringtones section there's 10 SAME ringtones..

I've read to get rid of this problem, go into info and erase all the info in the song file except for the name.. but it still doesn't work..

this is probably a very noob question, but i just got a 2g iphone and since i only know about the 3g's features, i'm kind of lost on a few things like...

what is the 2g equivalent of the app store? i want to download some games and other stuff and have no idea where to get them.

my iphone is currently on the software version 1.1.2. should i keep it on this or should i update it to 2.1? what are the benefits? i'd have to find a way to unlock it all over again if i did though, right?

Same features except that the 2G one doesn't have 3G (less reception, slower data) and doesn't have aGPS. That's it. The 2G one, if you update to firmware versions 2.0.0 and above will have exactly the same software as the 3G one. 2.1.0 has lots of bug fixes and is quite nice. I'd go for it. You won't need to unlock it if it's already unlocked, but you'll have to jailbreak it again. Use WinPwn.

i was using 1.2 last week when i updated to 2.1 on my first gen iphone and loving it!! there's so many features on this thing!

Has any of you have had any issues about returning your Iphone for blown speaker? I thought it was just a firmware thing so I upgraded it to 2.0. After doing so, it still wouldn't work. I was wondering if the Apple Store would just do a quick swap with the receipt in hand. I bought mine on March of this year in Alderwood Mall so it should still be under the 1 year manufacturer warranty.

i just did the pwn thing on a 2.2 2G iphone
but total commander and similar software isn't working too well for it.....

I upgraded my iPhone from 1.0.2 to 2.2 and I find that it runs a lot slower than before. Though the new features are cool, I'd rather be on 1.0.2 again.

Any data plan will work. I've used the 6GB one on mine before.
