Chronic Tacos on W.Broadway near Cambie. Always drove by this place and decided to try it out. Ordered one fish taco and a carne burrito. Fish taco was alright but nothing fancy about it; kind of pricey I think. They serve alcohol there too, other than that, seems just another joint that mainly hipsters would go to. Food: 6/10 Ambience: 6/10 the music was blasting and quite loud when i dined in there Service: The staff were all nice and kindly discussed their menu to me. Its one of those places that I would just try once and not go back again. |

Hey guys, I am a real Foodie! I checked into Sushi Garden on Kingsway for dinner last night. Ordered the usual Dynamite roll and spicy salmon salad mix. Food portions was large, but the food lacked unity of flavours.:okay: They have alot of room for improvements IMO Food 6/10 Service 4/10 (reallllll busy, maybe that's why) |
claims he is a foodie. goes to sushi garden? I went to some place in burnaby on hastings... sushi town or something. Used my android navigation to suggest a sushi place when I was having lunch with a friend from sfu. I had the smoked salmon roll cream cheese. My favourite thing ever. It was cheap too. |

There's quite a bit of hype surrounding that Sushi Garden, so I decided to pop-by and see what it's about. Prior to going there, I often see the place jam-packed with people, with long line-ups outside it's store. Like I said, the presentation of the food is average, but the taste of it is "meh" Will never go back though. |

Pearl On Victoria..or something like that. Right beside Kelvin's Szechuan Restaurant. 6-7/10. The closer item is baked portugese chicken on rice. It wasn't real baked and the flavour was mild compared to BT but it is a large portion for $7.95 or was it $7.75. The item further away is Thai Fried Rice. It was "wet" for a fried dish but otherwise tasted good with a light kick and pronounced sweet pineapple flavour. Not pictured is baked sole w/ spinach in cream sauce. The fish was buttery and sauce was decent. Was supposed to be baked but came out watery and relatively (compared to BT) bland but still good enough to eat and enjoy. Drinks were so-so (Horlicks and Hot Almond Tea). $0.50 extra for cold. I would return for food if I'm in the area. Went there on a Tuesday cuz BT was closed. Went to Pear Tree last night for the first time. I always drive by it and always near it was there but for some reason never went until yesterday. The place itself is quite small but it's super clean looking and has a nice feel to it, definitelty a good place to be with the girl. For Apps we ordered the following Classic Flamed Gin and 'Cascade' Tomato Soup with Chive Whipped Cream - It was an interesting soup but wasn't our favorite. Taste wise I would say it was a bit lacking in flavor but the soup itself was kind of trippy because there's this jellow like thing in there and the texture mixed with the soup is kind of interesting. We still enjoyed it but it wasn't mind blowing for sure. Spot Prawn Cappuccino" Spot Prawn Foam with Dashi Custard and Local Spot Prawns - This was absolutely tasty. The Spot Prawn Foam was very tasty and it had a decent amount of foam + prawns. Knowing we were sharing they split it into 2 for us already instead of having us pass it back and fourth to each other. A simple thoughtful/common sense gesture that unfortunately most places don't have the brains to do. Entrees Braised 'Peace River' Lamb Shank Served boneless with Seared Scallops and Roasted Pear Risotto - Lamb Shank was cooked to perfection, I barely had to use any effort to cut into it as it was so tender that simply taking a fork to it the meat fell off into pieces easily. The scallops were also cooked perfectly and taste great. This was the first time I've had rissotto because it never appealed to me and although it was good I didn't care for it and it just reminded of congee a bit. Twice Cooked 'Berkshire' Pork Belly With Spot Prawn and Tomato Cassoulet - My gf ate this and I just took a bite so can't comment too much on it. The one bite I did have the meat was very tender and tasted pretty good but otherwise I can't comment too much. Overall we loved our experience a lot and have already made reservations to come back in a couple weeks. We also ordered a desert and I had a glass of Wine, total came to $115 before tip. Here's a quick overall again below - Awesome location (Burnaby), so glad it's not in Downtown which means easy to find parking and not a super busy area in general vs Downtown, W Broadway etc - Decor was very clean and simple, nice small place that is a great setting especially with your gf - Staff was very friendly and the head chef who was the owner even came by personally to check on tables - Food overall was quite delightful, very delicate, well executed, and presentation was nice - Super small menu though there's basically 5 apps, 5 entrees, and 5 deserts. Waitress said the core of those meals usually stay the same but what's included on the side will change from season to season. So for example the lamb shank will always be the same but maybe in another season it won't be scallops but something else with it. Highly recommended Probably post pictures later if I'm not lazy |
Mokado. 7.5/10 Sushi and sashimi was crisp and fresh...small mom and pop run resto that are actually japanese. hole in wall; but worth it. Rumble/Royal Oak. |
Sushi paradise I love the tamago there. Actual Japanese people, too bad it's so small there. The owners are quite nice and friendly, telling me stories. Had tamago nigiri, chopped scallop nigiri, and chicken don. Food: 9/10 Service 9/10 Really enjoy my time there, can't forget about their own made caramel pudding. They plate it for you so nicely too! It's in new west. Posted via RS Mobile |
