James' Chinese Restaurant - Hastings & Slocan. New place just opened, run by the ex-head waiter at the Pelican.

8/10 Not too shabby.

Semi off-topic....

But does anyone know when we can stop paying the 12% HST for food since HST was pushed back?

You should try Sushi Nanaimo if you're already sort of in the area.

Its on the North East corner of Nanaimo and Hastings.

It's one of the best places I've been to that has great service, food and prices.

Woody's Pub on Brunette.

$0.20 wings, they were a bit on the smaller size.

The flavors that we chose:
-Honey garlic
-Thai sweet and spicy
-Whiskey BBQ
-Caribbean Jerk
-Woody's BBQ and hot
-Woody's steak spice
-Hot ranch.

They all pretty much tasted the same except the Honey garlic.

6.5/10.

Everytime I crave Dim Sum and end up eating it, it turns so oily..

I just discovered a new Asian restaurtant in Surrey and went there with my bf last week. It's called "Bubble 88", it is just right across to SFU at Surrey Central Skytrain. They don't have the best bubble tea; however, we find the food there isn't bad at all.

We would rate it, food 8/10, drink 6/10

Good to hear, going there tomorrow for lunch with my buddies who had suggested it. Didn't even know it existed until today :alonehappy:

Always loved that place when i was a kid when they had their first store in Brentwood Mall. Only difference is the price doubled lol.

It's pretty sad when fast food costs as much as an eat in restaurant now. I don't bother with them anymore unless I'm in a rush.

Flo Tea on Granville/64th

4/10

I walked into this restaurant thinking it would be more Taiwanese food, but kind of seemed more like HK style. My friend picked the restaurant, I probably would have gone to a real HK style restaurant which would be much more reasonably priced.

Their spicy beef noodle is decent. The place overall is pretty average.

I love going to Enjoy, especially after gf found out her uncle runs the place and we started getting a discount when we go :D Anyways here's my latest rating.

Earls (Landsdowne) - 7/10. I like the food here better than any of the other chain restaurants such as Cactus Club or Moxies. We got more attentive service than usual since a buddy of mine that works there was eating with us. The sides seemed a lot smaller, especially for those people that split full orders of ribs and chicken

went to LA. Busy weekend with friends (stayed in mostly in fullerton/irvine/aneheim hills)

Slaters 50/50 (just outside of aneheim hills)
http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...25589724_n.jpg

Got the 50/50 1 pound patty (after its cooked) which is essentially half bacon half beef.

ordered from the design menu

http://www.slaters5050.com/sites/all...n-it-menu1.jpg

Got, it medium well on the white bun, with baconnaise, and garlic aioli, with brie and blue cheese, wich anchovies, grilled onions, lettuce, sun dried tomatoes, sunny side up egg, and roasted green chiles.

http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...39137124_n.jpg

cut open

My friend (i didnt take a picture got the peanut butter and jelly burger)

http://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...95276733_n.jpg

deep fried pickles.

http://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...69368451_n.jpg

maple bacon milkshake

http://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...86113587_n.jpg

Albertacos. Essentially late night mexican food. Somewhere near fullerton.

http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...23158980_n.jpg

got a carne burrito, and 3 rolled tacos deep fried, topped with guacomole and cheese) The burrito was fucking awesome. The 3 rolled taco's were a little rich and much.

Love Letter Chicken and Pizza

http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...23106335_n.jpg

Bulgoggi pizza

http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...22655842_n.jpg

Spicy Garlic Chicken. Essentially a korean pizza joint.

http://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...06185118_n.jpg

Taquiria mexicana. Down the street from the honda center in anaheim.

This place is good. Real good. I got esophogus, chorizo, head (the best one imo), al pastor (fucking delicious), carne asada, and carnitas pork.

I asked to go back here a second time. Each taco is 96 cents. Also washed it down with delicious horchata.

Went to in and out. Whitespot is still better.

Since I was in irvine went to some asian mall... it was the busiest fucking mall ive ever seen in my life. Think aberdeen on the busiest day of its life, and multiply it by 15.

Every resteraunt had a lineup out the door, and even ajisan (shitty fucking ramen) had a lineup out the door. There is a really famous taiwanaese bakery there called something along the lines of 89th street that had a 50 person lineup.

http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...57871113_n.jpg

(Ajisan terrible ramen... the meat in it was fucking delicious though)

Parking was impossible too.

We ended up eating at a tofu house

http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...20036716_n.jpg

bimbimbop was fucking delicious

http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...99865313_n.jpg

Honestly wish I ate at some better places, but we were on a tight schedule. I heard the ramen in downtown LA is fantastic.

The Naam

I haven't been back here since I moved out. The Naam is a vegetarian place which is open 24/7 and always packed for dinner.

I had the "Sam's Burger" with the platter of fries, salad and salad.
The burger was bland and tasteless. Not enough meat. I should've known better than to order a vegetarian burger.

My gf had the avocade/cashew enchilada.
Awesome meal and very tasty. They did not cheap out on the avocados.

Food 8/10
Pricing 6.5/10 (a vegetarian meal for two came to around $40 tips in, with one apy)
Service 9/10
Ambiance 8/10 (very hipster/hippie)

mako 01-02-2012 09:04 PM

Dragon Lord
HK cafe style food
7/10
