So we've been trying a few Teppanyaki type restaurants in the past few months and haven't been back to Kobe for maybe 5 years. So, we decided to give it another shot and use our entertainment book coupon for $38 off a second meal.

We get there for our 7:30 reservation and apparently they must have overbooked themselves due to the entertainment book and social shopper coupons expiring soon. They have maybe 6 hostesses working at the front desk, all without a single brain cell. They were all dumb and very young. I know it was really busy, but I swear that they actually lacked the capability to recognize any facial features and have some sort of clue as to whose name goes to which person. They almost gave my reservation away to someone else. Anyone who asked how much longer until they get seated got the same generic 30-45 minutes, whether they came in at 7:30 or 8:30. LIES! The hostesses could of thought of something atleast somewhat believable. We had to wait until almost 9:00 to get our seat way upstairs.

Some people may have left at this point, but we were not going to go line up somewhere else after waiting this long on a busy weekend.

So we got to our seat and ended up getting Raffi as our Teppanyaki chef/cook and this turned out to be his first day. I got the Emperor's feast, which is probably better value than most of the other meals since you get one equal portion of almost everything as to people who only order one thing. It wasn't that much more expensive in terms of this being somewhat of an expensive restaurant.

Raffi was not as talented or entertaining as the other chefs. So, we did feel like we missed out on that part.

The food was okay. The service overall wasn't that great. At these kinds of restaurants you're mostly paying for a show since it's pretty easy to cook steak, chicken, and shrimp on a frying pan at home. The show was not good enough for what I paid. The price was high, so I should be allowed to have high expectations.

6/10 is being generous.

Kobe, definitely one of the most overrated places in town. I think the last time I went was because of the Entertainment book though lol. The one and only coupon I used all year.

Point Zero in Richmond

8/10

Had the lamb hot soup in mild, and was already pretty spicy. The milk tea was also quite good. Just feels a bit pricey for the serving size, but does get you pretty full already.

I'd liken that Kobe would fall under the generic slop known as a tourist trap.

Had take out Dim sum at Fortune Seafood at Metro town.

Ordered 3 items.Lady said 20 minutes. She told me to keep an eye on the bar area in a white plastic bag which was my order. 25 minutes later I asked her to check on my order. She could clearly see I was starting to boil.I mean 3 dim sum items for really? A total of 35 minutes later my order arrived.

Spent a weekend stuffing my face at Whistler.

Rim Rock Cafe - 8.5/10
Favourite Dish: Sauteed Quebec Foie Gras

Mexican Corner - 7/10
Kinda pricey, but very tasty and (seemingly) authentic.

Elements Tapas Bistro - 8.5/10
Favourite Dish: Mushroom & Lentil Croquette

Bearfoot Bistro - 9/10
Favourite Dish: Wild Mushroom Soup
Their $39 tasting menu is an outstanding value.

Blue Water Cafe - 9/10
Expensive no doubt, but we all had a very good time, and nobody said anything bad about what they ate. Service was perfect, not to intrusive but very attentive.
Favorite Dish: Kobe style short ribs, this was my second visit for dinner and my second time having their short ribs. :drool

The Spud Shack 4/10. Over priced and super salty. Huge let down...

Sushi by Yuji

Omakase for 3

Without a doubt, another 10/10.

Sushi Nanaimo

Cheap and fast service. Food is pretty good for what you pay for. It's like the mcdonalds for sushi. I come here pretty often when i'm craving sushi but i noticed it is getting more popular and now you gotta wait for awhile to get a table.

8/10

Had the ribs before, and it was much too salty.

Personal preference I guess.

It tasted like... something I could have eaten at a Chinese restaurant.

But, the rest of the dishes are good.

your kitchen, just don't go crazy over the bacon good sir

I know this isn't the fitness forum but after a workout, it's best you eat anything that's clean/fresh at home. You could go out to eat like say at a restaurant but you would have to be careful in picking what you consume (i.e. burgers + fries + large coke = defeats the workout.)

Unless...you want to eat what you just burned off. hahaha

I used to eat Nando's after a workout. Of course, I wasn't looking to lose weight, but to gain weight. Decent amount of protein and plenty of carbs. Pricey though, IMO.

Try Whole Foods. They have a cooked foods section that has quinoa, meatballs, various salads etc.

I know Sushi Nanaimo is pretty unliked around here but I always thought it was good enough as another Sushi Garden clone for people who live in the E. Hastings area.

Went a few days ago and the place has taken a huge nosedive. Wait times are insane now, takeout boxes are everywhere, and the food - especially rice - quality is horrific (not that it was super great before). I don't understand why people are going out of their way and making 15-30 minute drives to come here. If I weren't a 5-10 minute walk/2 minute drive away from this place, I'd never come here.

4/10

anyone know this sushi place near subway and a bubble tea shop that has TV/icecream in burnaby? was pretty deep in coming from vancouver but place was not bad... has the name sushi in it. Ordered a spicy salmon bowl and it was terrific!
