Pho Sen The large was huge, priced nicely too. Food was pretty good. 8.5/10 |
The Fish Counter.. good selection of fish, the added oyster is good.. fries are a bit meh. To those who haven't been, you sit on benches. in and outside the store or take out. then Earnest for ice cream.. the hipster servers don't know what to do when the Filipino band came in and asked for donations. I am surprised most of the clientele are Mainlanders. |
Tadka Taste of India Had the lunch special which was butter chicken, rice, naan, and "salad" for $6.99. I will definitely go back for the deal, but the following notes were taken: -Butter chicken was more totatoey, but sufficiently creamy -Rice was run of the mill, as was the salad. -Naan is probably the best I've had in the city (up there with Soho Road food truck). 7/10 |

Still gonna eat there again... Also tried hapag on victoria, decent filippino food... Had the satay, bbq salmon belly, and squid... Satay was really yummy... Wouldnt recommend the squid if you cant stomach that... Small family like restaurant but great service. The guy was amazingly friendly and helpful... Making sure customers were satisfied. At Au Pied de Cochon right now waiting for my first dish... About a dozen or so tables so far but seems like nearly 70% of them are Asian lol. Unexpected. Posted via RS Mobile |

Gyu Kazu 8/10 |
Short ribs, duck with taro The front desk person is James the owner. I think it is better to eat in and interact with the staff. Quote:

Hawksworth Appies very good and good wine selection, everyone in our party had different things from the elk to sturgeon I had the prosciutto with soft cheese pears and candied walnuts, for the main had the charred striploin with short ribs added some fois gras, my main was fantastic and the sturgeon had good reviews but most were disapointed by the elk Good wine menu and pairings, the service left somthig to be desired from such a restaurant but it wasn't terrible 8.5/10 |

It is not just once or twice where the service is sub-par. It's almost every single time. |
I'm looking forward to my first trip there. I have a $200 gift cert that me and my wife got from a close friend for our wedding. I actually like the looks of the lunch menu more however. I've never been a huge fan of true "fine dining" food. Its often too complicated for my liking. I like meat, butter, salt, spice and booze. It will be fun to try though. I'm very old school in my style of cooking. Micro greens and sous vide meats are so soulless IMO. |
^ their service is ok. I've never liked it there cause it was jut so epic loud. |
James on Hastings Tried the curry beef brisket, sweet/sour pork, and spicy green beans. Curry beef brisket was missing something compared to Mui Garden. I think it was lacking that bit of creaminess that Mui Garden has. It was still quite good though. The serving size is at least 50% more than Mui Garden for pretty much the same price. I'll definitely get it again as it's so much closer than Mui Garden. The S/S pork was soggy (take out container), so I'll leave it unrated. The taste was good though, just the sogginess took away too much from the dish. The spicy green beans were good- just a hint of shrimp paste, but a bit heavy with the salt. Just a bit though- it was still quite delicious. Like mentioned above, I'll definitely try eating in to give a better idea on how good it really is. 8/10 Sushi K Kamizato Noticed the increase in prices (and it looks like they removed some items from the menu- notably the cooked items). I never got those anyways so it was no skin off my back. I honestly think their spicy sauce is the greatest thing on the the planet. Well actually, second best after their aburi toro nigiri. The aburi saba nigiri is a VERY close second/third as well. I won't come here as often as I used to just because it's a bit of a dent out of my wallet "just" for sushi, but damn you can really tell that some TLC went into the food there. When I crave quality I'll definitely come back without hesitation. 9/10 |
Hi-Genki in burnaby. I miss 29th Avenue cafe and their comfort Japanese food. Hi-Genki comes pretty close. The katsu-curry is damn good. Very large portion for about 10 bucks. It is underneath a senior rest home if you are comfortable with that. 8.0/10 |

Their Curry Crab is out of this world though. |
I hear that a lot. I'll likely gather the family to try it out. Is it a wet sauced curry? Or is it one of those dry-ish curry powder jobs? I had some Portuguese curry crab in Macau, and I ended up getting it on a girl's shirt sitting beside me at another table. Suffice to say she wasn't impressed, and neither was I because she wasn't good looking enough to want to see her sans the shirt  |
