Top gun is way over priced unless you have their gold card and leave before 1100. (Get 40% off but their dishes are almost $7 before discount) Not to mention their food is no where near as good as other top tiered dim sum restaurants

Tuc Craft Kitchen 9/10. The Pork 2 Ways is probably one of the best pork dishes I've had.

Lina's Italian Market In Calgary.

I'm going to stop listening to reviews. I think people in Calgary have a bad taste in food.

The cappuchino is amazing. Same with the cornetto's and other baked goods.

But people are going nuts for the sandwhiches. She did mention that they were sold out of their most popular one but it was decent. I'm also getting this amazing feeling that alot of these business in Calgary charge an Arm and Leg because they can and because this city is so flowing with cash. I paid 6 dollars for 230 grams of deli porchetta and 2.40 for 8 slices of smoked cheese.

Their deli is also subpar compared to what I'm use to (Santa Barbara on Commercial) but have most of what you need. They bake their own bread too, but I am addicted to those portoguese buns. I really wish I could find those here.

For me so far Calgary has been so hit and miss in terms of food. I'm dating a girl right now that has her red seal as a chef so hopefully she can take me to some foodie places.

Is Bearfoot Bistro worth the $ for a special occasion dinner?

I read mixed reviews, particularly about the service, but recent reviews seem to be good.

We've already done Araxi.

Last decent place I went to was Joe Fortes and got their seafood platter thing @ lunch

8/10

Their oysters were pretty good, but I still prefer Rodney's Oyster Bar over this place (cheaper too haha)

Any opinions on EXPBar?

hmm good to know, the photos of the food doesn't look too bad.
a buddy of mine said he heard it wasn't good even though urbanspoon gives it a positive rating.

although it makes me wonder if it really is packed with nerds and geeks...

bcrdukes 10-21-2013 06:46 PM

As I mentioned earlier, this was at least a year ago when they first opened up. I don't know if the clientele is still the same but it sure was when I was there.

You should try it anyway to see for yourself. Maybe it has gotten better or maybe worse haha

Did you get to see a show from some greek dancers?

I think they danced during late dinner time the last time I was there.

So we've been trying a few Teppanyaki type restaurants in the past few months and haven't been back to Kobe for maybe 5 years. So, we decided to give it another shot and use our entertainment book coupon for $38 off a second meal.

We get there for our 7:30 reservation and apparently they must have overbooked themselves due to the entertainment book and social shopper coupons expiring soon. They have maybe 6 hostesses working at the front desk, all without a single brain cell. They were all dumb and very young. I know it was really busy, but I swear that they actually lacked the capability to recognize any facial features and have some sort of clue as to whose name goes to which person. They almost gave my reservation away to someone else. Anyone who asked how much longer until they get seated got the same generic 30-45 minutes, whether they came in at 7:30 or 8:30. LIES! The hostesses could of thought of something atleast somewhat believable. We had to wait until almost 9:00 to get our seat way upstairs.

Some people may have left at this point, but we were not going to go line up somewhere else after waiting this long on a busy weekend.

So we got to our seat and ended up getting Raffi as our Teppanyaki chef/cook and this turned out to be his first day. I got the Emperor's feast, which is probably better value than most of the other meals since you get one equal portion of almost everything as to people who only order one thing. It wasn't that much more expensive in terms of this being somewhat of an expensive restaurant.

Raffi was not as talented or entertaining as the other chefs. So, we did feel like we missed out on that part.

The food was okay. The service overall wasn't that great. At these kinds of restaurants you're mostly paying for a show since it's pretty easy to cook steak, chicken, and shrimp on a frying pan at home. The show was not good enough for what I paid. The price was high, so I should be allowed to have high expectations.

6/10 is being generous.
