I'm only going to comment on the pho since that's one dish that both North and South have and one dish that we're all familiar with. The found that the broth and noodles were a bit different. Enough to make it interesting but not so much different that you're wondering if this is pho or just another noodle dish.

They also have some other interesting stuff on the menu like sticky rice and crab spring rolls. They really do seem to put some love into the food but the one huge downfall of this place is they're spread too thin. Often 1 or 2 people working the floor and while the place isn't big, when it's full, they can't handle it and you really take notice. I would suggest checking it out, I wouldn't say it's amazing but then again your regular Viet place isn't amazing to me either. Viet places are quick, cheap, and often hit a certain spot I need hitting that's all. However, Mr Red is still a refreshing given how it isn't your same ol same ol Viet place.

I do not eat 'Pho' anymore , i converted to Bun bo hue and thats what i had.

The broth was much different from other places , it was not just spicy , it was flavorful.

Although it does not trump the cafe xe hue which is still number 1 for me.

Have not tried the crab cakes yet but that is what i will eat on my next visit because people have been raving about that.

Great place that my friends cousin opened. I don't know that I would rank it as my favorite Viet place but it's the most refreshing one for me. Every place I've gone to serves South Vietnam pho and food. Mr Red serves food from the North so the pho is a little different. I personal enjoy the chicken pho here but they got some other neat items as well.

It is nice to see a place that is not the typical southern style.

The ambiance was great, you can tell they don't want to just sit you down , serve and take your money. There's pride and quite a bit of love put into the food and that is something i appreciate.

I just finished eating dinner at Black & Blue. I have to admit. Had 8oz Wagyu strip with scallops and brocollini. One of the best meals I've ever had. And if that wasn't enough the butter cake dessert was epic. Highly recommend this place. Price is worth it imo. Had Wagyu at blue water cafe and it wasn't nearly as good as this.

anyone try the new pho place by richmond public market called "Pho 1001 nights" ?

used to be called Pho "Cao Van"

they have grand opening 20% off

I dont normally eat at restaurants before searching up reviews on yelp and ubranspoon , but last thursday , i got food poisoning.

I consider my self very anal when it comes to food , i do not like to pay for food that taste like shit.

On thursday, a few friends of my old friends and i decided to get together after 4 years of without seeing each other , we went to Volcano sushi as one of them suggested it.

Typical chinese run place trying to make a quick buck by setting up a sushi restaurant , i hate people like this and hope they all burn.

THIS SHIT GAVE ME FOOD POISONING 0/10 WOULD NOT GO AGAIN.

Don't Argue! Pizzeria (Main & E. 16th.)

Pizza Margherita (Tomato, fior de latte, basil) & Salami/Mushroom/Rocket (D’s Original Kulen Salami, tomatoes, mushrooms, rocket, mozzarella and added sausage on top)

9/10 Pretty good pizza. I prefer their dough over the traditional Neapolitan style where it's tough/chewy. This one you can easily tear and the ingredients are great.. They serve soda water no extra charge. Girls there are hot too! :woot2:

need a recommendation for a place in Richmond or Whiterock (or anywhere in between) for dinner with the GF. Looking to not spend too too much and we're not drinkers... just need to get out and do a bit of a small celebratory meal :)

The Blue Canoe in Steveston.

Taka's Sushi in Whiterock if you like aburi sushi. Limited seating though

My dad just become a owner of this resturant called "top Chiu chow cuisine". It has a verve unique menu as well with awesome dim sum in the morning. It's not very popular due to the last owner but some things has changed and added to the menu. it would also be great if you guys could try it out and give it some reviews or rating via Yelp or urbanspoon. Oh yeah, this place is just right off hazlebridge way and Cambie in Richmond. You can't miss it, plus if you tell them that you got refer by me or mention about RS you can get discounts!! ;)

Ps: free wifi and serves alcohol.

knight604 11-22-2014 02:36 AM

Guu in Gastown, not bad first time at a Guu place.

Washington Avenue Grill in White Rock for the view. Seafood Hotpot there is delicious, amongst other dishes. Live music etc.. nice spot.

Boiling Point in Burnaby 4/10

not worth it. my $17 miso hotpot was packed with cabbage and udon. had a single clam and a pair of crab's legs that was devoid of any meat...
either the superfluous veggies detracted from the flavour, or there wasn't much flavour to begin with
appreciated the service; however, will not be going back
